I'm a dummy also. I did it & so far I like it. There was a message, stating that it could easily be removed.

I'm an experienced user and the install was easy. However, it slowed down my browsing (10 second wait to open a web page). It also has some features that don't work as well as they do in other browsers (Opera, Firefox). I gave it a couple of weeks and came to dislike it a lot. I reverted it back to IE6, but I think it left some changes in place that continued to mess with my browsing. I finally gave up trying to fix it and switched to a different browser entirely. I'm not a Microsoft basher, but, as far as I'm concerned, IE7 has some rough spots and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone at this time. If you do a search in this forum, you'll find other people have been having similar problems. Proceed at your own risk...

The download was easy. I never use it anyway (FF user), and the few times I tried it, it seemed confusing and annoying. So I don't use it! But it didn't cause any problems.

I got myself into big trouble. I downloaded IE7 shortly after I installed a new hard drive. I don't have any restore points.

IE7 looks better and the tabbed browsing is nice as well as the scroll magnifiction which works, this time, on graphics as well as the printed word.

Many websites are inaccessible. The new security will crash you to desktop more than you will want to know, and it may, unwittingly, conflict with your current security without you having any control over it.

If you have an FTP site that comes with your internet service, it will be inaccessible.

There are many problems. They are not going to go away quickly.

The rollback to IE6 that comes with IE7 is not the IE6 you have. The IE6 rollback is an IE7 ready IE6 and its almost as bad ... and in some instances, worse.

Wait a while.

Magnification and I'm not if its unaccessable or inaccessable but neither is possible, at the moment, with IE 7 and FTP sites (your personal site).

Thanks for all the replies. I don't recall how, but I did get an idea the new IE 7.0 was not a good choice for me. I really like IE 6 and how it is working out.

For now I will hold off until I am confident there is an upgrade suitable for me.

I like IE 6.0....tried 7.0 for 1 hr. and had so many problems..... I like change, but I think I will wait until all the kinks are out....

It'd be fine if it would let me save bookmarks. The bookmarks/favorites feature is completely unresponsive. So was IE6 for some reason. Never used to have that problem. Reinstalling each version did no good.

After reading the posts, I wish I had checked here before downloading IE7. How is IE6 restored, just in case?

IE7 comes with an automatic IE6 rollback. If you uninstall IE7 through the control panel ... you are then left with "rollaback IE6" ...which is not your old IE6. Mine is such a mess I have start over from scratch. It is not repairable, I even had charter over to take a look at it.

A restore might work. You might want to post another topic about restore points versus the rollback.

Any further comments on IE 7.0 as people have had more time with it--if anyone has? I have had to grit my teeth and learn to live with the shield icon all the time now, as I have chosen not to get it yet.

Ginny, you can get rid of the shield by going to the Microsoft update site and tell it to the Hide I.E. 7 update... Later on, if you decide you want it just click Restore Hidden Updates.

Don't forget to put a check mark in Don't show this update again ( like I did when to check for you... LOL )... That won't affect any other upates.

same old thing to me except the menu bar is too fat.

I had really slow load times with IE7.

I visit another forum & to get to the forums from the main page another window opens. Well, IE7 would close it after a period of what I guess it thought was inactivity, or when the page updated due to someone responding to an old thread or starting a new thread, or perhaps because of changing ads. I had some other problems with it, but can't remember what they were.

So I downloaded Firefox & have that as my default browser now. I did lose mouse click sounds with FF & the ability to print from right click for some strange reason.

I have IE7 and so far have not had any problems with it.

I haven't found any problems at all with IE7 either, XPSP2 here. My many bookmarks were all there, unchanged.

I did get a warning for the first couple of months that it was not compatible with my Quickbooks program (this was after I'd taken steps to make changes at my bank so my computer with new browser was recognized online), but I double checked payroll, invoicing by hand and all was fine. After about 8 weeks, Quickbooks came up with a patch so that I no longer get the warning that I should reinstall IE6. (the warning prompt I find now is that Vista will not be compatible with my accounting program, 2 years old and $400 - will be waiting on that one:))

Morz8 there is some information on the link below for running Quickbooks on Vista. You will need to check the FAQS link at the end of paragraph 4 to read about your 2 year old version.

salbwil, I have a link in my Start Menu to the Windows Update site... You can also access it through Internet Explorer in Tools, Windows Update.
