Opinions Wanted - Entry and Patio Door
Comments (30)After. This is a Polaris steel door. You can't see it well in the picture but they had a wood-grain option that I went with. This post was edited by bdam on Sun, Nov 23, 14 at 17:07...See MoreX-post: Patio door for entry?
Comments (3)It all depends on the architectural style of your house. Can you post a photo of the front of your house with your current door? What climate zone are you in? Which direction does the door face? What do other houses in your neighborhood have, or are you in a wilderness? How far from the street is your front door, or are you even on a street? If so, is there a streetlight near your house? Can you post a photo or link to the door your are considering? Lars...See MoreOld Cape Cod Bungalow - Weird Rectangular Cut-Out in Entryway
Comments (3)Ditto what is on the other side. Could be an access panel for plumbing...or maybe the heating system was changed at some point, and this used to be a vent? Can you easily remove the panel?...See Morepatio dilemma in basement entrance
Comments (13)our basement opens to a patio. the patio floor is concrete, and the whole area was dug out so it's level with the basement floor. there's a retaining wall and steps up to the yard. we love it, but I cannot stress how much we hate that you have to go all the way downstairs to get to it. we rarely eat out there because it's so annoying to run up and down the stairs with all the food and stuff. honestly, if you can swing it, I recommend a deck that's level with your main floor, with stairs that go down to the yard. if that blank back wall is not a good spot to add a door, then have the deck wrap around to the right side and put door over there somewhere. if you must DIY a ground level deck w/o a retaining wall: I suppose you could build one that has steps down to the basement door. you'd probably still have to move a lot of dirt to get it level. but honestly, I think this design would be kind of weird and not as useful....See MoreShe Abe
