That's lovely, Susan, but I don't think you have quite enough lights. LOL

Beautiful lights. I'd show you a picture of my house but all you would see was a sea of teenagers. SHEESE!! It's almost the New Year here and then they will all go home.

I love the reindeer! Happy New Year!

Ours was utterly quiet, although not unpleasant :). Both kids were off doing their own NYE celebration so the house was nice and calm. We ate dinner, chatted, then he went to sleep early and I read for awhile. Boring? Maybe but also a moment to cherish being secure in our lives and with so much for which to be grateful. Actually, our New Year's reminds me of the lyrics to one of my favorite Carly Simon songs, Misfit: There are plenty of late nights If you want to stay up for them You'll just want to find yourself a friend And tie a couple on in a night spot Draw pictures of your soul, win the jackpot Pour tears in your beer It's hip to be miserable when you're young and intellectual In a bit you'll admit you're a misfit Come on home with me We'll turn on the TV About 10 o'clock we'll turn off the light Not every man was born to stay up late at night There are plenty of boats to catch If you notice all the sails in the wind But you better look hard my friend In case you catch a ride on the wrong one In the distance is the one you belong on Oh the water is wide It's hip to be miserable when you're young and intellectual In a bit you'll admit you're a misfit Come on home with me We'll sit under a tree And if you get the itch I'll supply the scratch Not every man was born with a boat to catch It's hip to be miserable when you are young and intellectual In a bit you'll admit you're a misfit A misfit

New Year's Eve ok for everyone?

New Year's Eve was no problem of itself. We had none of our kids here so no celebration. We are both sick with colds so went to bed about 9:30. I was up before midnight and several more times because my head was all stuffy. Taking our daughter and her son to the airport yesterday and having lunch with another son and his fiance were both good times and hard to leave them. On the way home I started missing Aaron so badly I didn't think I could stand it. I cried a lot last night and this morning too. I do not feel good about a new year starting without Aaron. He died Nov. 24 and it seems such a short time for that to already be "last year". I know he is in heaven but my sadness is compounded by not being able to feel or "see" him anywhere. I can't visualize heaven or him meeting family and friends who have gone on before. We live in the house he built and I feel pleased with its beauty and quality and proud of the job he did. At the same time, it's very walls and windows make me think of him not being here. It sounds like you did a good job of taking care of yourself. I don't drink but at a time like this it would seem to be a good thing to be able to drown some of the feelings I have! Carol

Thanks for sharing the various ways you chose to ring in the New Year! So sorry for those of you who are fighting colds/flu and other illnesses, That is not the way you would hope to start the year! bpathome-we had boeuf bourgignon too! We served it with roasted vegetables and crusty French bread. As is typical, we had so many appetizers that we grazed all night. hhireno-I had to laugh at your comment about wishing you had more of those yummy little treats to start today. I made eggnog French toast with the left-over French bread and topped it off with left-over whippped cream and fresh raspberries (from last night's trifle). Then we had an extra bottle of Prosecco, so we "had" to make Mimosa's to go with it! Decadent for sure, but so yummy! We used to go to First Night in Boston, first b/k and then with kiddo's. Now we prefer to lay low in town and have friends over. We are on the Cape for a few days to relax and recharge. I did a long walk today and plan on walking the beach in the a.m.

What Are Your Plans for New Year's Eve?

Lol, the oliebollen also sound like Jewish sufganiyah, a fried jam filled treat served for Hanukkah. We usually stay at home, off the road on New Year's eve. We will have our Sprites over for the night so that their g'pa can have a small adult gathering next door. We will go over for a little while to enjoy some of his delicious munchies and to let the girls mingle for a bit. They are great in grown up company, and they like G'pa's friends. But they are very happy to stay with us for the night. We'll play games, have a snack, they'll take their shower and get into their new flannels. Their goal is to stay up until midnight, heh heh heh. But by the time we watch a movie, read a chapter of Anne of Green Gables........zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Didn't I say in a message or two.. MY HUSBAND IS CLARK GRISWALD!!!

Just call him.. Sparky!

His Christmas gift this year was to have the outside of the house super electrified! He has seven thousand lights this year.. you don't SEE all of them for God's sake!!! There is another whole half of the house on the other side that doesn't fit into the picture frame!

Next year, he hopes to surpass 10,000 lights! (WHAT A NUT!!)

I would be happy with the lit garland around the door and the lights trimming the eaves, and MAYBE the anitronic deer moving.. that is about all I can handle!

I couldn't get in to see either Linda.. you got a password? I will keep it secret, especially if a treasure map is included! LOL

No take down included! However, he loves doing it. Always has. And, if he could, and I would let him, he'd keep something up all the time. He is truly Mister Christmas!
