I was just about done with Annie's and Diane's cookies when the doorbell rang on Saturday. It was a cookie delivery from Alva aka alucy, and I must admit she is a pretty brave woman for sending some delicate Florentine Lace cookies. She sent two, wrapped indivually and packed in their own little box. They are delicious! If that wasn't enough, she also sent Orange-Cranberry Delight cookies which were a big hit. We ate them when we were driving around looking at the Christmas lights. There were 5 of us in the car -- THEY ARE ALL GONE! Thank you so much Alva.

Thank you Debbie, glad you enjoyed them! I'm relieved someone got them, I was beginning to worry. I sent them on Wednesday and was promised 2-3 day delivery, today I was wondering if they were all going to come back as undeliverable, lol.

Brave! Ha! This was my first time making the Florentines, the recipe I used produced an ultra delicate cookie, which I tried to stiffen up by turning into a sandwich cookie, but they were still so fragile. Glad they survived.

(P.S. I thought I'd put four Florentines in each box -two packages of two - I know I made ten two-packs. I must've goofed if you only got one, awfully sorry.)

Thank you Diane, Debbie, and Alva! I'm surprised to see that they made it to NY so fast. Looks like they made the trip okay for the most part. It was 75 here the day I shipped, that was not in the plan. LOL I was hoping they would be heading to cooler climates but I think y'all were/are in the sixties. We only makes these at Christmas in my family and they have always been a favoite of mine. Glad to hear you are enjoying them. Thanks for posting the pics too! David

I got my box of Pecan Tassies from Stacy last night, they look delicious, Stacy, thank you so much! Maybe I'll think about a mini-pan now, these tassies are so charming. I'm hoarding mine for the moment in the refrigerator, my sister comes for a visit tonight and if I'm in a good mood maybe she'll get one, lol. It was a pleasure to "meet" you and your family through the photo, what a nice touch! Thanks again for all your hard work and I'll be watching for the recipe!

Well, I suspect they came yesterday, but they needed a signature since they were international, so they would not leave them. I went to the post office at 4:30 to pick up my Canadian package, and the line was a block long...I kid you not. When I got up to the counter, the package was still with the mail carrier, so I have to go back today. LOL. So, by the time I get them, it does not matter if they are moldy, they are gonna taste awesome! LOL. (I am kidding about the moldy) Incidentally, my DH was only out of the house a total of an hour yesterday...of course that is when they tried to deliver)

Here's a couple thumbprint cookies that are tried & true. Imake them every year. Chocolate Caramel Treasures Cookie type: formed These are another variation of thumbprint cookie. This recipe came from Gourmet Magazine, December 1999. Ingredients For the cookies: 1 stick unsalted butter, softened 2/3 cup sugar 1 egg yolk 1 teas vanilla 1 cup flour 2 tbsp whole milk 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 teas salt 1 egg white, lightly beaten 1/2 cup chopped hazelnuts For the filling: 10 (1 x 1/2 inch) plain caramels, 2 tbsp heavy cream For the drizzle: 3 oz semisweet chocolate, finely chopped Directions For the cookies: Beat together butter, yolk, milk, sugar, and vanilla until well blended. Sift in flour, cocoa, and salt and mix until mixture forms a dough. Chill, wrapped in plastic wrap, until firm, at least 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll tablespoons of dough into balls, then coat with egg white, and roll in nuts. Place balls 1 1/2 inches apart on a greased baking sheets. Press your thumb into center of the balls to flatten, leaving a depression. Bake until puffed slightly but centers are still soft, 10-12 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press centers of cookies again with a spoon. Let cool. Make the filling while cookies are cooling. Heat caramels and cream in a small sauce pan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until melted and mixture is smooth. Spoon into centers of cookies and cool completely. Make chocolate drizzle one hour before serving. Melt chocolate in a double boiler or a metal bowl set over a pan of barely simmering water, stirring until smooth. Cool to warm and pour into a heavy-duty sealable plastic bag. Seal bag and snip 1 corner to form a small hole. Drizzle chocolate over cookies and let stand until set, about 30 minutes. *I never bother with the drizzle. I also usually use walnuts and not hazelnuts. ***************** Austrian Jam Cookies Cookie type: formed My mom originally got the recipe out of a magazine years ago. I don’t know what magazine. These cookies nowadays go by the name thumb print cookies. I like to call them Austrian Jam cookies because they sound more sophisticated that way. I usually double the batch. A single batch will make about 15-18 cookies. A double batch, you will get closer to 3 dozen. Ingredients 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), softened (not melted) 1/2 cup sugar 1 teas vanilla* 1 egg, separated 1 1/4 cup sifted flour 2/3 cup chopped almonds** your favorite flavor of jam Directions Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Beat butter, sugar, vanilla and egg yolk in a medium bowl until fluffy. Stir in flour. Gather dough into a ball, cover and chill for several hours. Roll level teaspoonful of dough into balls. Dip the ball into a slightly beaten egg white. Roll the ball into the almonds. Place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Space cookies 1 inch apart. These cookies will not spread very much. Press an indentation with your thumb in the middle of the cookie, careful not to go all the way through to the pan. Fill with jam. Bake at 300 degrees for 20 minutes. *Almond extract can be used in place of real vanilla. ** Generally, I think the almonds are a little too hard for the rest of the cookie. I usually use walnuts or pecans. I like using Polaners preserves for the jam centers. I have also used Smuckers as well as homemade jam.

I got mine...would you belive it...on Sunday! I didn't know they even delivered mail on Sundays! Alva, I know what happened to the 4 Florentines you thought you sent...they were so delicate and when you packed them back to back, they fused together to make 1, so it only looks like you sent 2 when you sent 4. They were lovely cookies. I have not eaten my orange cranberries yet, was too full, but plan to start in on them tonight after work. This cookie thing was fun, wasn't it?

Alva,please be sure to post the cranberry orange recipe. Those are yummy. I still haven't eaten the Lace Florentine yet. Too much sweet junk over the weekend, so I am slowing down.

Yes, it was fun. And very tasty! I want to thank everybody for welcoming me as a newbie, too, I never really introduced myself to the forum so I know my cookies represented a bit more of a risk, er, adventure for all the tried-and-trues around here.

I had a great time and learned some lovely recipes. You ladies (and gents) on the forum never cease to impress me, such knowledgeable, talented and creative cooks here!

Now I want cookie boxes in my mailbox every day, lol.

More yummy cookies here arrived here yesterday. I was out of the office so I just finished one of each. Alva, they are great! This was my first time ever for the Florentine Lace cookies. YUM! The Cranberry Orange were great too. Thank you very much for a great box of treats.

My camera is loaned for school and church events this week so I can't post any pics. Sorry about that. : (
