Woody...I love the idea of your pudding, but my kids are really looking forward to the Chocolate Trifle this year. So I will have to try your recipe next year. :-) It's been a long time since we've made Chocolate Trifle. This is what we are making for Thanksgiving but possibly will make it again at Christmas. It is a great recipe for a Christmas dessert. It's not really a 'written down' recipe. The ingredients are all just layered in the Trifle Bowl in whatever amounts fit. It is simply chocolate cake, unfrosted, chocolate pudding [not instant], whipped cream, crushed Heath Bars. That's it! It is really delicious and very rich. We like to make our own pudding and cake and whipped cream, but if you were in a hurry, you could always buy the cake and whipped cream. It also is a very pretty dessert if you have it in a large straight sided glass bowl. Great to bring to a gathering too. Not sure what other baking we will do this year for Christmas. Sometimes we make cookies for gifts. I'll have to come back as Christmas starts to get closer to see what we are doing. Looking forward to lots of recipes here. :-) pm2

One of the reasons to *not* rinse/prewash dishes is if you use an enzyme detergent it needs the food particles to work better. It'll etch glass and stuff if it doesn't have the food particles. I can't explain it well, but it's easy research for a more thorough explanation. Most just recommend scraping the dishes (and really, who wouldn't?!) then into the DW. I haven't had a dishwasher for more than 30 years but I'm starting to miss it. I would get grossed out though when it left stuff on it. When washing by hand and using a good soap it gets clean. Sure, you just put it back in and rewash but it still bugs me. It also bugs me to see people leave dirty dishes in the DW for a week before washing them. Argh! If it takes a week to fill it, you should have a smaller DW or use a top rack only feature. This is what impresses me about the F&P Dish Drawers. And geez, I can wash a few dishes FAR faster than an hour or two for a dishwasher! LOL And when you compare the time to load the dishwasher vs washing, it's pretty close. Time's not a factor. It's the hassle of washing them. I soak my dishes and a quick swish, rinse in HOT water and into the drainer to dry. Putting them away is comparable to time in a DW. Oh, and one thing I found out quickly, the way you load it makes a big difference. You have to learn how the water sprays and make sure it's not blocked for effective washing.

Oh, some yummy inspiration on here! This is one of my favorite comfort food pasta dishes. It's even better reheated. Baked Pasta Shells with Eggplant from Simple Vegetarian Pleasures by Jeanne Lemlin (highly recommended!) 4 Tbsp olive oil 1 medium (1 1/4 lbs) eggplant, peeled and diced (3/4 inch dice) 1/2 lb small pasta shells (I actually prefer to use Barilla Plus penne) 6 garlic cloves, minced 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes 1 1/2 cups canned crushed tomatoes or tomato puree 2 Tbsp dry red wine 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil, or 1 tsp dried basil 1/2 cup diced roasted red peppers, store-bought or freshly roasted 4 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese 1 1/2 cups grated part-skim mozzarella cheese Bring a large stockpot of water to a boil. Heat 1 Tbsp of the oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Fry half the eggplant, tossing often, until it begins to brown and appears somewhat translucent or shiny. Initially, the eggplant will absorb the oil and look dry; don't add any more oil, just keep frying and tossing until its juices are released. When done, the eggplant should be still somewhat firm because it will bake further in the oven. Don't overcook it. Remove the eggplant and place it in a shallow, 2 1/2 quart baking dish. Using 1 Tbsp of the oil, fry the 2nd batch of eggplant the same way. When the pasta water is boiling, drop in the shells (or penne). Cook until al dente, not mushy. Drain and return to pot. Place the remaining 2 Tbsp of oil in the skillet. Add the garlic and hot pepper flakes and cook 1-2 minutes, just until fragrant but not colored. Stir in the tomatoes, wine, salt, parsley, basil and red peppers. Cook 2 minutes, and remove from heat. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Stir the eggplant, sauce, and 2 Tbsp of the Parmesan cheese into the pasta shells. Place half the mixture in the casserole dish that held the eggplant (to avoid dirtying an extra dish). Top with the mozzarella cheese. Spread the remaining pasta mixture on top, then sprinkle with the remaining 2 Tbsp of Parmesan. Cover the dish with foil. If needed, refrigerate at this stage up to 24 hours in advance. Bake 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Remove foil and bake 5 more minutes. And this one I haven't tried yet but would like to: http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-chard-mushroom-lasagna-137482 Vegetable Lasagna with Butternut B�chamel serves 6 to 8 1 pound (about 16) lasagna noodles 2 to 2 1/2 pound butternut squash (or 2 pounds chopped squash) Olive oil Salt and pepper to taste 1 large bunch (about 5 large leaves) chard, well-washed 1 pound cremini mushrooms, washed and sliced 3 cloves garlic, finely minced 1/4 cup water or white wine 1 cup milk, plus additional if needed 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 1 lemon, zested 1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme leaves, plus extra for the top of the lasagna 1 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan and mozzarella cheese mix Heat the oven to 375�F. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with olive oil. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil over high heat. Add the lasagna noodles and cook as directed on the package. When cooked, drain and lay out on clean kitchen towels to dry. While the pasta is cooking, peel and seed the squash. Cut into 1-inch cubes and toss with 1 tablespoon olive oil and a generous amount of salt and pepper. Spread on a baking sheet and roast for 40 minutes or until extremely soft. Remove the stems and ribs from the chard leaves by folding each leaf in half lengthwise and using the tip of a chef's knife to slit away the main rib. Chop each rib and stem into 1/2-inch pieces. Roll each leaf up into a cigar shape, cut it in half lengthwise, and then crossways into thin ribbons. Heat a thin drizzle of oil oil in a 10-inch saut� pan. Turn the heat to medium-high and add the mushrooms. Cook without stirring until quite brown � about 5 to 7 minutes. Flip them over and cook for an additional 3 minutes. Turn the heat down to medium, and add the garlic and chard stems to the pan. Cook, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant � about 3 minutes. Add the chopped chard leaves and 1/4 cup water or white wine and cook until the leaves are tender and wilted. Turn off the heat and season the vegetables lightly with salt and pepper. At this point the butternut squash should be quite soft. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Scrape all the squash into a bowl and add 1/2 cup milk, the nutmeg, lemon zest and thyme. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture, adding the remaining milk as you go (this can also be done in a traditional blender). Add extra milk if necessary to make the sauce smooth and creamy, but not too thin. (Think thin fruit smoothie.) Add salt and pepper to taste. To assemble the lasagna, spoon about 1/4 of the butternut sauce into the bottom of the prepared baking pan and spread to thinly coat the bottom. Place 1/4 of the noodles on top (four noodles) and then spread 1/3 of remaining sauce on noodles. Top with 1/2 of the cooked vegetables, and 1/2 cup of cheese. Add another layer of noodles, then sauce, then the rest of the vegetables, and 1/2 cup of cheese. Place the final layer of noodles over the vegetables and spread the last 1/3 of the sauce over top. Sprinkle evenly with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and a pinch of thyme leaves. Cover the lasagna with foil and bake at 375�F for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and continue to bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the top is golden and the cheese is gooey. Remove from the oven and let stand uncovered for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with a good green salad and some bread.

For herb rub 8 garlic cloves, 3 tablespoons chopped fresh thyme leaves, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary leaves, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves, 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, 1 tablespoon coarse salt, 3 tablespoons olive oil, a 7- to 8-pound leg of lamb, trimmed of all fat, boned, and butterflied by butcher (4 to 4 3/4 pounds boneless) 1 lemon Make herb rub: Finely chop garlic and in a small bowl stir together with remaining herb-rub ingredients. Put lamb in a large dish and with tip of a sharp small knife held at a 45-degree angle cut 1/2-inch-deep slits all over lamb, rubbing herb mixture into slits and all over lamb. Marinate lamb at room temperature 1 hour. Prepare grill. Lightly pat lamb dry. On a lightly oiled rack set 5 to 6 inches over glowing coals grill lamb about 10 minutes on each side, or until an instant-read thermometer horizontally inserted into thickest part of meat registers 125F for medium-rare. Melt butter in heavy large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken to skillet and saute until brown, about 3 minutes per side. Using tongs, transfer chicken to plate. Add artichokes, onion and Italian seasoning to skillet. Saute until onion is tender, about 6 minutes. Add broth and wine and boil until liquid is reduced by half, about 8 minutes. Return chicken and any accumulated juices to skillet. Cover; reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer until chicken is cooked through and artichokes are tender, about 5 minutes. The Frugs Stuffed Grape Leaves A jar of grape leaves For the broth, 2 C chicken stock and the juice of 1 lemon For the filling, mix together: 1# coarsely chopped or ground lamb, 1 C raw, long-grain rice, ½ C olive oil, 1 C chopped yellow onions, ¼ C chopped flat-leaf parsley, 1 T dried dillweed, juice of 1 lemon, 1 tsp allspice, 2 cloves minced garlic, a little salt and pepper Use some of the smallest grape leaves to line the bottom of a 2-quart stock pot. Place the grape leaves, bottom side up, on a counter, stem side toward you. Place 1 tsp of filling in the center of the leaf and fold the stem end over the filling, fold the sides inward and then roll towards the tip of the leaf. Dont wrap them too tightly as the rice expands during cooking. Place the rolled leaves in layers on the bottom of the pot close to each other, to help keep them from unrolling. Cover each layer will a couple of plain leaves, including the top layer (I usually end up with about 3 layers of stuffed leaves). Pour the broth over the leaves and place a plate on top to weight them down while they cook. Cover with a lid and cook on a low simmer for about an hour. Remove the pan from the heat, leaving the lid on so the leaves dont darken, and allow to cool for an hour before serving. Best at room temp but pretty good cold, too. Pop the tab off the can of ginger ale, pour half of it ( 3/4 cup) into a measuring cup and drink or set aside to make a sauce. Make 2 additional holes on top. Remove the giblets from the body cavity. Remove and discard the fat just inside the body and neck cavities. Rinse the chicken, inside and out, under cold running water and then drain and blot dry, inside and out, with paper towels. Place half of the ginger-garlic paste in the body and neck cavities of the chicken and rub the remainder over the outside of the bird. Put a slice of ginger in the body cavity and in the neck cavity of the chicken. Put the can on a roasting pan. Lower the chicken over the can so it fits inside the body cavity. Pull the chicken legs forward to form a tripod so the bird stands upright. Tuck the tips of the wings behind the chicken's back. Put the pan in the oven on a low rack (so the chicken will fit) and roast at 350 degrees for 1 1/4-1 1/2 hours. Test for doneness. Present the chicken to your guests. Let it rest for 5 minutes, then carefully lift it off the can and serve, taking care not to burn yourself.
