WANTED: Curiosity was killing my post office gal !

I missed the mailman yesterday so had to run today to our little local post office to pick up & sign for a package--new gal behind the counter

was real curious about a pkg from Canada containing homemade pickles so I had to explain about our Cooking Forum & the swaps &

members from Canada, Iceland, Australia, Germany , Japan & all over the States -- she thought the whole concept was so great. ( & no Sharon didn't cheat-- just sent a gift for the family)

Oh Goodness ,Sharon--- !! I love everything--it's all perfect ; beautiful, unique and useful-- and just my style,

every single piece I would have agonized over getting for myself if I had seen them someplace-- they certainly speak to me! And so nice to get local artisan's work.

(Doc's at Deer Camp with my camera -- I won't be able to take pictures until Sat evening & would really like the forum to see these beautiful items. So I emailed Sharon & she came through with hers)

I absolutely love the shape & texture of the wooden bowl-- & signed and dated by the Craftsman (Kenneth H Jones ) -- 15 x 8 & 3 inches deep, hand distressed with a small metal insert in one end, feels very good in the hands too-- I just love the feel of well worked wood-- it's beautiful enough to use as a display piece tho I think it will be filled with the cranberry/walnut rugelach I'm taking to DD's Thanksgiving Dinner-- first of many times it will be used I'm sure.

And the gravy pitcher & it's drip saucer-- a stoneware pottery piece by Donn Zver--dark browns fading thru green in the unique glaze treatment-- and check out the curly bit on the handle-- the spout looks like a "drip-less " one. You're right about it being the perfect size for my brood-- & timely--- for our family Christmas this year I'm planning to do a boneless Prime Rib & introducing the family to Yorkshire Puddings-- and won't that pitcher be perfect-- and being stoneware will keep the gravy well warmed.Wish my camera was here so you could see how well it looks with my good stoneware ( which is a gray/green speckle & flower pattern).

The place mats & napkins are very nice-- a bit "rustic" like me but the trim gives them some style -- needed here.

PS-- Sharon's pickles are going to DD's for our Thanksgiving Dinner . So when we go around the table & each of us mentions what we're thankful for she'll be included in a family's " thank goodness for friends" . The chili sauce I'm not sharing-- well maybe Doc can have a little.

Hi mmqc! Under the What's New on GW it says this... 2.11.09: Our technical team is currently working on restoring the ability to post on our forums. We appreciate your patience as we work towards a resolution. Has anyone dissected the new rate increase yet as far as what our non-machinable rates should be for various weights? I just searched for it and can't find anything other that the regular First Class letter is going up 2Â¢. It also said that additional ounces would remain at 17Â¢. If I remember correctly, last year it was not even published anywhere before the actual day of the raise...maybe a day or two before. I remember asking at a PO just days before the 2008 increase and was told by the clerk that even she was not told exactly what all the increases would be. I guess they just want to get the word out, but don't want people paying the higher rates in error (think? sheesh!) because of potential customer overpaying and then complaining.....like that would ever do any good. Sue...quitting b4 the twitchin' starts.

I don't have any expert advice for you, but I just wanted to say I feel really bad for you. I can just imagine her spraying the Roundup like she was putting out a fire. Roundup and weeds are all she knows. I love my trees. I've lived with them for many years and have an emotional attachment to them. As far as dealing with her - find out what the laws are first. Then read her the riot act, calmly but assertively, and tell her what the law requires. (Maybe give her a photocopy or a phone number to call if she has questions.) Give her a deadline to make the corrections, and tell her you will take further action with an impartial third party if she does not do so. If she makes any remarks other than "I'll take care of it immediately!" then just tell her clearly that she does not understand how serious a matter this is, and that her actions are a clear-cut violation of your property rights. The longer she ignores it, and the condition of your property continues to deteriorates, the more difficult it will be for her to resolve financially. If she gives you a hard time, tell her that her attitude is unacceptable, and forces you to put the matter into the hands of a third party immediately. And follow through, of course. This approach has worked for me, and I have never had to take legal recourse, because my no-nonsense attitude gets their attention. It is also civil discourse, and there have never been left over bad feelings. Good that she is moving, but you need to think and quickly if you want her to correct the damage that has been done, that you can at this point document, before she is gone and can ignore you. Good luck. Stick up for your trees!

Thanks for sharing! I knew I was addicted when my credit card magnetic strip started wearing out the year I started buying up all the sweet citrus I could find. I'm sure it was coincidence. I numbered all my trees and started spreadsheet and religiously keep it up-to-date (with repot, pest, and general health info) so I know what's what. Of the two trees I've given as gifts, only on is alive and *barely*. Happy citrus growing...

Cindy, have you ever ordered from Jack before??? I've always been very pleased with what I get from him as far as quality and size goes. Also if he doesn't have something that you're looking for often times he will try to track it down for you. If this is your first time with him,I think you'll be pleased with the hoyas you receive. Sudee,it's advisable to have an import permit any time you bring plant material to the states from a foreign country or vice versa. Dealing with customs can become a VERY unpleasant experience if things aren't done THEIR way. I do have an import permit to import/export plant material but only use it in cases where I bring in more than 13 cuttings/plants. Many people don't know this but it is legal to have up to 13 cuttings/plants imported into the U.S. without a permit. Over 13 i'd highly advise that you have a permit and a phyto if required. I'm pretty sure that in most cases a phyto is a requirement for any size order. A few years ago I had a shipment of very healthy hoya cuttings destroyed by U.S. customs simply because the shipment was not accompanied by a phyto certificate. All I got was a piece of paper stating that they had destroyed my pest free,disease free hoyas because of a single document missing from the box.

more perfect items for Diane. That bowl is absolutely beautiful and I love the gravy pitcher and plate. I can just see Diane's table set with those beautiful red checked placemats and napkins.

Diane, I know that you are going to enjoying using everything that Sharon sent you for many years to come.

I just adore the gravy picture. It sure makes more sense than a gravy boat -- less surface area to get cool, and easier to pass! What a pretty bowl. I agree that hot crusty rolls in that bowl would be just perfect.

These swap boxes have been so nice and thoughtful. I am sad that there are no deliveries on Thanksgiving.

Super package you have there Diane. Sharon packs a great package....I was lucky enough to receive one from her a few years ago. Beautiful bowl and I love, love the pottery! Those dills are delish...Enjoy!

Great swap package Sharon, I love all of the things you chose for Diane. My eye is especially drawn to that lovely bowl, I can imagine all sorts of good things to eat being served from it. Pretty napkins, and they will go with lots of different settings too. The gravy pitcher is the perfect size - I'm thinking warm maple syrup as well. And the best ending of all, a big jar of homemade pickles to serve with Thanksgiving dinner. Enjoy it all Diane! Sharon, you did real good:-)

wow, I like it all. I think the bowl is my favorite, but the pitcher is really nice and could be used for a lot of things besides gravy.

Very nice choices, Chase. And the dills, of course.....

Wow, Sharon that is really stunning. That bowl, is it from the downtown store we looked at, the one that had all the beautiful wood furniture. Wow, it is really nice.

I love wooden bowls like that, and the pitcher is great also! The napkins remind me of an Italian restaurant, and I would use them whenever I make Italian food. Very beautiful package!
