I've gotten it frequently. I do all updating manually, and I don't always remember to update the Avast program (just the av (iAVS) definitions). So, once in a while I would be told that there's a new version to be downloaded/installed.

I'm not sure but I think that if I would keep up with the program update part of the avast updates I would not see the pop-up.

Yes, mine can as well, but when I was on dial-up, instead of having the auto-update clog my connection (and reduce my speed) I set it to update manually. That way I could do it when I wanted to and get it out of the way. And that way I would know Avast's updating wasn't going to start automatically at an inopportune time (when I was trying to download something else.

And actually, now that I have DSL, I still do all my updates (AV, anti-malware, etc.) manually. Habit I guess. ;-) And, as I noted, it's only when I don't remember to manually update the program that I will eventually get the notification of a new version that you showed in the original post. If/when I do get it, I just click it and Avast updates without problem. :-)

I get those also, but my question is, how did you get the box into the forum? I have wondered about those things for quite some time, would love to have that knowledge if it is possible. Thanks to anyone.

shaddy you can take a screenshot of anything on your computer screen and save it as a picture then you can post it here or anywhere you like. you have a print screen button on your keyboard up on the top row after F-12. These are the general directions for use:

1. Press Ctrl and Print Screen keys at the same time.
2. Go to Start\All Programs\Accessories\Paint
3. When the Paint application launches, press Ctrl + V at the same time. The Screen you just copied will open up in the Paint application.
   (hint:If you want the whole screen press screen print key.
   If you only want a picture of a popup window hold the Alt key and press screen print.)

it is really a good idea if you are now on DSL to set your AV updates to automatic, it is really essential to get the new definitions as soon as they come out, they can not help you at all or stop a new infection if you have not let the program update and get the new definitions to block any new infections. They put out those new definitions for a reason that is because a new infection is out in the wild hitting. So it is highly advised to allow your AV program to get the new definitions as quickly as they are sent out.

I used the Print Screen button which copies it to your clip board (you don't see it).
Then I open my PSP7 software program to paste it to crop and save as a JPG.
Then I upload it to Photobucket then copy the code of it to paste here.

What I was getting at was, mine updates automatically and I still had that pop up. I am on dialup also.

Isn't it best to have this running?
Someone asked about getting rid of that i icon that sets on the system tray. Does that disable it?

VRDB stands for "Virus Recovery Database"; it was known as "Integrity Database" in previous avast! versions.
