should not make any difference the service pack. Many computers simply could not install sp3 but if you have done all windows updates you pretty much have the biggest part of sp3 from those regular updates. I would try to power down and power up in sequence to see if that helps. power off to everything, computers, modem, router, everything connected. Let sit 5 mins, then power up in this order modem first let it get fully lit up, power up router let it get fully lit up, power up computers let them fully load till all activity has stopped then try it. Do you have a firewall on it? if so it could be something in the firewall settings, but if the power sequence does not work I would just try a quick system restore to the date when it was all working fine that may reset what ever got changed.

FWiW The Lenovo OneKey Recovery. It loads its own recovery environment but it does use the laptop display... and there are several mouse clicks to be able to use it. Lenovo has a couple of Recovery partitions & will load the operating system to the drives to a like new state. It also has restore backup and images capabilities if you set it up to do so from within windows originally. Sounds like the display or display adapter is bad, as it wont even run the display from outside of windows correctly. Or possibly the display drivers have been given a virus - Hooking up a separate monitor, if it works..run a virus scan - Or use the OneKey recovery to bring it back to the like new state, both might be might be worth a try.. before returning it to some distant repair center. I surely would do it here. The OneKey virus scan is actually McAfee that updates and scans boot sectors of all partitions and offers a quick or full everything scan... very long scans both of them. Its nice to have made the Recovery DVD Disks and keep those stored away safely too, for when the hard drive fails or becomes not accessible.

My son found a Dell BIOS upgrade CD for this laptop Found as in lying about the house all the time or found from a friend? I ask because if this is a CD that came with the computer it might be fair to say the BIOS is not the latest available. He possibly flashed the same BIOS but cured any instructions that may have been corrupt. Did you or your son notice any beeps other than the normal POST beep during any startup attempt? Flashing the BIOS is not a task for the faint of heart, a slight hiccup and the motherboard is scrap material. I added that sentence in case others feel they might like to try this. Flashing the BIOS needs to be done only when there is a real reason to do so. In this case there was a good reason, congrats to your son This is where I would use one of Mikie's favourite tools - the event viewer. Take a long serious look back through there for clues. Many are written in gibberish but clicking on the links can bring some useful answers

Baked Club Sandwich 6 slices pre-cooked bacon, chopped 1 (11-oz.) can Pillsbury� Refrigerated Crusty French Loaf 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese 5 slices thinly sliced deli turkey 5 slices thinly sliced deli ham 5 slices thinly sliced deli roast beef Heat oven to 350�F. Spray cookie sheet with nonstick cooking spray. Unroll dough. Sprinkle cheese over dough. Top with turkey, ham, roast beef and bacon. Starting with long side, roll up dough; press edges to seal. Make 3 to 4 slits in top of loaf. Place on sprayed cookie sheet. Bake at 350�F. for 23 to 28 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes. Cut into 1-inch diagonal slices.
