trouble installing cd

Hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and are as stuffed as I am. My question concerns installing a Print Master card making cd. I am having trouble as it won't install, it is supposed to be compatible with Windows XP which is what I have. The package says I am getting a bonus---subscription to Million Image Club. Was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this, does it mean there is a cost for this and if I download this will it then install? Hope this makes sense, because I find the directions a little confusing myself. Thanks in advance for any help I can get. BT

I did a quick google and it seems that Broderbund has several versions, so I cannot specifically speak to the bonus software question. What happens when you try to install it? Is there an error? Which version do you have? I am happy that you mentioned that you have Windows XP, but need a bit more info to help. Maybe it's a DVD instead of a CD?

Does any information appear onscreen? I assume the drive works and the indicator light comes on once you close the drawer? Pam may well have got it right though, if it is a DVD you need third party software - which you should have if you have a DVD player/burner installed.

It says it not only supports W/98, but W/95. If W/95 can handle it, my oldie ought to be able to. I hope... J

Have you tried more than one CD? And more than one type? If for example you are trying a music CD now try inserting you XP operating system CD and see what pops up. Does the activity light on the front of the DVD player come on when you close the drawer with a CD inside and does the speed of the flashing increase after a few seconds of activity?

Have you checked their website? usually they will tell you their preferred method of doing that. some companies tell you just to go ahead and lay the new one over the old one it will find your settings and save them and just install the new and remove the old, Some want you to do a full uninstall of old and then put in the new. I suggest you read the material with it and go check their website. I used trend micro but it was years ago so I really do not remember.

I agree but for a different reason. Unless you were a heavy user of the optical drive in the old machine, it's probably fine. They don't tend to be subject to much wear and tear. A BIGGER issue is a possible interoperability problem between the old drive and the new PC. Manufacturers don't always write new drivers for old hardware models when a new Windows version comes out. Also, the old drive may have an older interface (like IDE) that your newer PC may not have the capability for.

oh, for goodness sake, it is a DVD!! I just don't know enough about computers to even pay that much attention to things like that. I don't have a burner on my computer, at least I don't think I do, so I supposes this is just useless for me. Well, it sure will teach me to look before I buy next time. Am disappointed though because I really wanted it to work. I think I better look for a kindergarten book on computers. Also checked a game I couldn't install---it, too, was a DVD. I just learned a valuable lesson. Thanks for your help. I do appreciate it. BT

You just need a DVD reader and the software to read them usually comes with. You can probably find one that plugs into a USB slot.
