runsnwalken: You uncle is very, very ill. The fact that he has lung and brain cancer indicates that there is a high probability that the cancer has spread (metastasized) to other areas of his body. I think it is admirable that you care enough about your uncle that you want to help and I do not think there is any harm in that. My concern is that there are many, many nasty people that could take advantage of your caring and promise all kinds of things that are not true. Because you do not know much about treating cancer, you may get your hopes up and get hurt by these people. It takes a great deal of experience, study, pain, and thoughtfulness to be able to understand what is true and what is not true, not only in medicine but in life. I do not think you will find the kind of information you need in a forum, or any non-professional gathering place, because the people who go there do not know alot about treating cancer and tend to be susceptible to heresay. However, if you want information about how get through the difficult experience of watching a family member deal with cancer, I think these kinds of forums can be very helpful. If you want to educate yourself about diet, supplements, and other approaches to treating cancer, you would need to start reading the medical literature. High-quality information about legitimate approaches to treating cancer naturally is generally not easily available on the Internet. Low-quality sales pitches for snake oil approaches, unfortunately, is found in abundance. If you want to pass on something that might be helpful, tell your mom that your uncle may benefit from seeing a doctor who is an expert in the natural treatment of cancer. As you note, the chances here are not good, not only because of how ill your uncle is but because natural treatments will require your uncle to significantly change his lifestyle, which he may not be willing to do. Another way you can help is just by spending time with your uncle and helping him to keep his spirits up. That is an important component of any kind of cancer treatment. I have it upside down, but this is the table cloth I re did from a ragged, torn, misshapen circle to a rectangle to fit the son's table. I was so afraid of ruining his mother's work, that I dragged my feet and put it away so many times. However, I think it turned out just fine. Since I could not match the shade of light cream from the thread she used, I moved all hers to cover the top of the table and then I crocheted in white thread the motifs that make up the skirt of the table.

Yep, a pre-midlife crisis project. Something I've wanted to do for 10 years now. My plans? Well, let's just say, I've obsessed....um, er...thought about the design for the last 5! So, yes, my design...LOL

One+ year later update! Ok, so here's the scoop on TWP and the arbor that I used/built - still holding up pretty well. Color has faded a bit, but I can't tell if it is the wood changing color or the light stain fading. Regardless, still looks nice. Though now, I am starting to see, what I call "pollution" streaks from the very top of the (the flat part exposed to sky) of the 2x2's covering the whole structure. it's probably the tanins that are leeching out and "dripping" down on the upper struts of the arbor. But, in a way, it's not too bad - in fact it's lending a slightly weathered look. Will need to keep an eye on this though. Anyway, the stain is still beading though which is great. in fact when it rains the wood takes on a darker hue. Wood is holding up just fantastic. no splits, minimal shrinkage around base of posts, and smooth as my 4 yo's butt! Sorry about that! he's running around here nekkid! Routed sides of posts have saved many split heads on our kids...plust the base of the posts have helped them not to run near them. though they love to stand on the bases. Installed lights up in cavities of the trellis and have crated a really cool effect onto concrete and wood accenting. I'll post some pics. Oh and money grew on some of my trees so I get to start my outdoor kitchen! Whoo Hoo! Will have matching arbor over top of that too! just wanted to give you all an update. I see some many forums and the threads just seem to stop with no updates...
