3 Car Courtyard Garage?
Comments (22)I agree with everyone's thoughts. We do have a bit of space, we are building in 15 year old suburban neighborhood (we bought last lot) of 2800-3500 sq ft homes. However, my neighbors on each side both have side load garages where the driveways are up against the shrubs to my property. So we'll be "flanked" by two driveways. The significant pros to courtyard are: 1) guests will always use front door & front entrance is clear 2) Driveway shorter 3) nice area for kids to play 4) Smaller front yard (less grass). The cons are mostly that the garage is much more prominent than it should be- so cars, basketball hoops, etc, are all "right there". I think a 2 car courtyard would be less prominent, but then we have the issue of the third car. Has anyone seen any pics where a car is parked in a pad on a courtyard style, but softened by landscaping? We still may do side load, 3 car... but I'm struggling with the front door. People never use my front door here, and it bothers me....See MoreHow do I stop a garage door from dripping rain on my car???!!!
Comments (22)I have the same issue and for a long time I could not figure out how the rain water is landing on top the car especially after I weather-stripped the top and sides of the door - until today when I just happened to open the garage door to clean the water mess on the car, the water came pouring through the sectionals of the door! Now it is simply not just the few drops of water that is the nuisance - if your car has some or lots of) dust the water drops create a messy look after the water drops on the car dry out - it looks really yucky on most cars and especially on a black car! If you want to go out and it is still raining, sure, the mess will be washed off but what if it is bone dry outside (sunny or not) - one is compelled to wash the mess off oneself or take the car to the car wash, unless one is ok with a messy looking car. This is quite annoying if this happens frequently as it does in the rainy season....See MoreWhat's UP with the Car Lot in front of your House-Use Your Garage!
Comments (98)Everyone has such a different take on this subject. I'm one of 8 children. When Dad was alive, we'd make an effort to get as many of us as possible together at his house a couple of times a year--he loved this. This would result in multiple cars at his house for a few days--two in the garage, three in the driveway, 2-4 more out on the street in front of his property (he had a double lot, so there was room enough). Some neighbors would comment to us that Dad must be happy we were all visiting. Some neighbors would nervously inquire if Dad was okay--all the cars made them think he must be dying or something. And the guy who parked all his cars in front of Dad's empty lot most days would complain that we were taking up all the street parking. Cars are part of day to day life. It strikes me as odd that seeing a car on a residental street could be seen as wrecking a "view." People have cars; they need a place to park them. If seeing a neighbor's cars really bothers you that much, then probably best you move someplace where that is regulated....See MoreConvert part of 3-car garage into mud room?
Comments (23)We did this with one of our homes. We had an oversized 3 car . The garage entered into what was a “mud room” but it was really a expanded hallway with hooks on the wall. It was too shallow to build the mud bench we had hoped to build. So we bumped out that area into the 3rd garage stall. We didn’t delete the front portion of the garage keeping the garage door etc. This worked out wonderfully because all of our garden tools, lawn mower and kids bikes etc were stored there. this actually ended up being useful . We have owned four homes. 1 regular 3 car. A four car. The oversized 3 car I’ve described above and now we are in a small two car. The three car with that conversion was our best....See MoreLuAnn_in_PA
