Well it just about killed me to sit through hooker school knowing my swap parcel was waiting at the post office.

Adele thank you so much for a great swap parcel. It's uncanny the things you chose and how they are so me.

First the cookbook...Mario Batali!!!!!! Eat your heart out Monique! LOL I love Mario and I love Italian, I have none of his books and this one looks awesome. It is a James Beard Foundation award winner and is simply gorgeous! The recipes, text and photography are outstanding, can't wait to hit the tub tonight!

Next is a cookbook published by the University of Minnesota press and written by Beatrice Ojakangas. It features Scandinavian food (eat your heart out Woodie!). I never knew that there was such a large Scandinavian influence in Minnesota. What's really funny about this is that Adele specifically mentions the lefse and sent a hysterical picture of "her" making lefse. Sometime ago, but long ago enough that the thread has gone, someone posted about lefse and I was so intrigued by it. I questioned the OP about technique and recipes and was very keen to make some but haven't yet. I will now!

Last but not least an adorable little basket pendant( I love baskets) made by a local artisan. Adele mentioned wanting to find something to go along with my hooker trade but settled for the basket. Well it just so happens the little basket is a perfect size for my hooks! I love it!

Thanks again Adele, I love everything and will think of you often as I enjoy the lovely things you chose for me!

Wow! Sounds lovely! I can't wait to see a pic of the basket pendant, it sounds cool... and how great the hooks fit!!

Wow I am so jealous about the Mario cookbook....I told my husband that when we go to NYC in December, I want to hang out in the village to see if I can spot Mario. Enjoy your great package!

Very cool package! "The Spice of Life" sounds really, really wonderful! Yummy on the coffee! "Happy coffee!!" I think my MIL would like to try that! Those chocolates sound good, as do the bread toppings! Cocoa soup? Now that's a soup I'd probably enjoy! Enjoy your bundle of Islandic goodies! How intriguing!! Netla, terrific job! Catherine, I've been away since before the election & am just getting caught up on the swap. What a wonderful package you received! My DIL's family is from Iceland & she went back for the summer about ten years ago bringing me back some fun souvenirs. I'm certain you'll enjoy your cookbook! I've also never known about crowberries...but no doubt the jelly's delicious. And, the jar topper is just the perfect finishing touch. That pancake mix would have lasted just long enough for me to grab a bowl and heat the griddle around this house... :) Enjoy Catherine & great package netla Tricia

I am a long ways from any water other than small rivers. Darn glad of it too. We still have 8 ft snow piles here! On the level I'd guess 3 to 4 ft. The forecast for our area has these red advisories: Flood Advisory Flood Watch Hazardous Weather Outlook We are supposed to get this storm, hopefully this time the weather guesser has it right, they say 3 or 4 inches of rain starting tomorrow afternoon with 45 MPH winds. Then changing to snow but they aren't saying a huge amount for us. Which we sure don't need anyway, don't need ANY rain either. Fargo is going to be horrible. Before this storm forecast they were calling for 1.5 million sand bags to be filled. The Red River flows north, so I'd think Grand Forks would sure get it, but then they don't have the snow fall we got all winter.

In addition to the "Pay It Forward" gift, employees also receive year-end cash bonuses totaling 5 percent of the bank's earnings for themselves. From article; "The bank's act of kindness has had unexpected consequences. Reif said that at his branch alone, about 50 people have called wanting to open an account because they were so taken by the gesture." Yeah, 'unexpected'. Riiiiiight. That's why they hired an Oprah look-a-like with a duplicate set, to host the announcement. The whole thing is a marketing ploy and I would love to revisit this thread July 1, 2008 to see what great deeds have been performed. Is the list going to be made public? The employees get free money to give to whomever they want, and the whole thing is a huge tax write-off for the bank garnering tons of publicity to attract investors to the bank. I'd be more impressed if each one of them donated a kidney or something. Or banded together to forgo their hefty end of the year bonus and donated that. Call me a cynic and a realist. Sharon - I'm Swedish on my mom's side and was born in Minneapolis :) I LOVE lefse!!! Never had tried to make it myself though. Can't wait to hear more about that cookbook.

I like Mario too, so I'm sure that cookbook is equally great. And the pendant sounds adorable!

Ohhhh ! A Mario cookbook-- Wow--Enjoy Sharon.

A Hooker school-- Ha ! -- is that legal ? Kidding aside the basket pendant sounds like a handy thing .

Scandinavian recipes-- should be lots in there for you to share-- especially with Christmas Cookie time coming.

I want to see everything too--especially lefse. (I had to scroll back up to make sure I was spelling it right!) It isn't very often I see a food word that I've never heard of! Off to google I go.

Your two cookbooks sound wonderful Sharon. I hope you learn the new camera soon!

Oh if Mario only knew how many of us loved him! I'd also love to have one of his books. He wears crocs too....red ones.

Sharon, you better post some of your hooker photos for those whose heads are reeling right about now! LOL

Great cookbooks, and I want to see that pendant, too, sounds lovely. Tim is half Swedish and half Norwegian, so I definitely know what lefse is! It is a flat "tortilla like" bread made of potatoes. Tim likes it rolled up with buttter and sugar. Me? Not really crazy about it.

What a treat to get 2 cookbooks! I hope you post recipes from both of them. That pendant sounds really interesting, I'm eager to see it as well.

Hooker school.....hmmmm....still waiting for an explaination for that, although I have an idea.

I thought it was just my incompetence at using the new camera but not so......the battery is defective. So CLive has ordered a new one and it should be here early next week.

Then I can post pics of the darling basket pendant, it is so cute! As only Adele and I know!
