Kitchenaid dishwasher venting issues. Does it still exist?
Comments (12)We have a Miele, which is just a miracle worker. I can densely pack it. And no matter how awkwardly I place items, they still come out perfectly sparkling clean. On occasion, I have forgotten to add detergent, and things were still clean (not that I'd advocate doing this). On the other hand, during construction we have to move to the in-law unit, which has a Kitchenaid dishwasher. It takes noticeably fewer items. The lack of a third rack is painful. And inevitably, I always have a few items that I need to wash again by hand, because they had not been in the perfect position to get cleaned. Given the price difference, I'm still happy with my decision to buy the Kitchenaid, as it doesn't get that much use anyway. But for my primary everyday dishwasher, you'd have to pry the Miele from my cold dead hands. Not letting go of that one....See MoreNewer Miele Dishwashers Intake Valve Issues?
Comments (13)@wdccruise thanks. I'm in Canada and it's a free 10 year they are offering. They do that once in a while and it's the only way to go. I got a free 10 year when I bought my washer and dryer from them as well. Luckily this is good timing or I'd go with the Bosch for sure. This at least gives me pause to try Miele again since any issues won't be my problem for 10 years (outside of the inconvenience). Comments (27)@jborge - stumbled on this chat when researching the same problem - my Bosch 800 is ADA compliant and too short for the rest of the cabinets. In order for the bottom to line up I have to lower it pretty significantly and put the filler on top / have the cabinet door stick up above the metal dishwasher door. How are things going for you? Is your door holding up? Do you have a picture of what the top of the dishwasher door looks like? Thank you!...See MoreMiele dishwasher pump issues
Comments (13)For Miele dishwashers, there is a backflow valve that is supposed to prevent this from happening. That's why you don't need an air gap when installing a Miele dishwasher (some jurisdictions still insist on it though). You should have a high-loop though. So, that would be the first thing to check. Look under your sink and see where the drain tube goes. Does it go up from the garbage disposal and then down again to the dishwasher? If not, that's the first thing to fix. If you have an airgap (the little nub next to the sink), open that one and check that it has no obstructions. If all of that looks fine, check the instructions for your particular model to see how to access the backflow valve. For my model, it's inside the sump on the left-hand side. If I push a little tab, the valve lifts out. It has a big steel marble and a gasket. There should be no visible contamination and the marble should move freely. The gasket it harder to inspect. After a couple of years it can age and deteriorate. That's not always obvious. The best indication is that the sump always has lots of water in it (small amounts are normal, though). When that happens, you should consider buying a replacement valve. I don't think you can buy just the gasket. When I bought mine, it was somewhat overpriced at about $40, but since that fixed all my problems with failure to drain it was worth it. Also, it's nice that this part is user-serviceable. So, no labor costs for a change....See Moresushipup1
