Kitchenaid Dishwashers Side Vent
Comments (3)We bought a new KUDE40FX a year ago March and it broke down in April, thanfully if you can call it that within the one month remaining on the warranty. They replaced the electronic control box. That was enough to scare me into getting the extended warranty for another 4 years because the previous KA in this house when we bought it was only a year old at the time and crapped out twice. A minimum of about $200 each time. However as a dishwasher it works very well, it's quiet and we've had no steam issues from the little side vent. Fact of the matter is we use the "One Hour" wash cycle about 95% of the time with excellent results on really dirty non rinsed dishes. The other cycles seem rather pointless to me. I like to get them done pronto. The other cycles take a minimum of 2.5 hours even with clean dishes in there and don't really save all that much water or power according to the provided charts, just that they have to have them now by law to meet govt regulations. I tried a load with clean dishes just to see how long the sensor cycle took and that's about how long it took, not including the dry cycle. They dry quickly anyways if you pop the door open an inch when it's finished. Would I buy another Kitchenaid dishwasher or any dishwasher made by Whirpool again,, NEVER. Comments (51)Everone will have a preference. We got the KUDE70 early this year and it has been great. We replaced an integrated model that had a cabinet panel. It was flush with the surrounding cabinets. The new KA sticks out about the depth of the door. But, it looks great. It is still recessed under the granite countertop overhang and the sides of the door are SS so it looks very nice and modern. And this allows you to see the soft blue glow of the status indicators. Which comes in handy because this thing is so quiet you can not always tell if it is running. It took about three weeks to get the right combination of our water and which detergent to use, but now we have no problems. New washers have different cycles than older ones, so your old methods might not work anymore. We are very pleased with it....See MoreDishwasher question: does it matter where the vent is?
Comments (6)I read about this recently on an older thread. I just purchased my dishwasher the other day, a KitchenAid KUDS50SVSS, and it has the vent at the very top near the countertop. It is a newer model, and comes with some sort of barrier that is to be installed directly underneath the countertop to I assume prevent moisture issues. I would imagine that this wold not be a problem with anything but a wood or laminate countertop. I agree that I wouldn't be comfortable with a vent near the floor, as I am doing hardwoods. For the same reason, I probably wouldn't have been as comfortable with my choise if I did have laminate or wood tops, but I am doing soapstone, so I am not worried. I agree that air gaps are gross. I haven't found out yet if it code in my county....See MoreKitchenAid Paneled dishwasher question
Comments (6)I cannot answer your question regarding a wash cycle indicator, but my cabinet maker warned me about the KitchenAid panel not being able to fit flush with the adjacent cabinet doors because of depth issues. I heeded his advice and went with a Bosch and glad I did. My neighbor put his brand new KitchenAid on Craigslist when it stuck out from his adjacent inset cabinet doors after installation. It did not stick out much, just could not get it flush. I'm sure there are plenty of great installs with KitchenAid panels, this was just my experience. Kitchen Aid, Bosch and Meile are all great dishwashers....See Moredadoes
