What in the world happened to the previous posts

I must not be paying much attention because I just yesterday notice that the dozens and dozens previous history posts and replies that could be accessed (next 30 messages at the botton of the page) has disappeared!!

what a loss to users like me that constantly used that search and information area to find answers to problems or just cull through and read and learn. Many times I would have a problem or situation come up and remember that a question had been posted about the subject and answered and resolved by the experts on this site, and now it's all gone. I could find the answer to a problem without having to ask a question that had already been asked and answered. That's how I discovered that the history was gone. I wish there was a way to get all that back, what a loss!!

I see that, too. It doesn't seem to have happened to the couple of other forums I checked. If you want, you can always contact GardenWeb and see if they can restore those.

Here is a link that might be useful: GardenWeb tech support

I just did a cursory check of six other iVillage/Garden Web forums which I will visit time to time, and their archive is as we were previously accustomed to. If this is not a glitch this forum may be one of the first to have its archived pared back to what now shows as an approximate thirty day window.

I do have mixed feelings on the issue. On one hand pertinent information should always be available to members and guests, but on the other it just seems more and more members are starting a thread without even searching for previous discussions. For what diminishing worth the direction on the homepage banner, "Before posting a question, please check the FAQ and do a search to make sure it hasn't already been answered." thoughts could be made to remove it.

Looking Real Good Steve Mon!! Ya see the thing about composite material is it changes, no matter what brand a person buys its not going to be the same the next day or the next year, there is no telling about the stuff its made by a machine so even if the Co dosent change the make up or get slapped with a class action or has a recall or just stops making it all together,,,,, Machines make mistakes for a lot of reasons it could be they dident get updated, could be a low paid worker tossed a few beer bottles in the mix, could be the raw material wasent up to quality things like that. Some people want composite for some reason, others dont mind the stuff going green every year or little rot holes coming up, or having to frame with sister joists on a break, or having it sag on 16'' centers. Watching the color fade, puting up with the little differances in the texture. Other People are enraged over things like this, I have goten a lot of mail from these Folks, they bought into the hype belived what the Co said and have no place to go either live with it,try for a class action, tear it out and go with something else. And then there are the Srercrcr kind of folks, new wave, modern, this is the material of the Present and its not getting all that much good press. Mabey should Our Business stay on the roll its been on for the last 10 years the composite machine including everything thats invloved in that will probley get a product out there that people can count on,after they have pushed out every mix they can think of and advertized it anyway they want, and just put on hold the enraged customers,, remember them??? I do a fair amount of composite decks, I dont want to do it but the hype is impossible to put away so I use the best I can get and go with it. One high $ material is Plastic Lumber, The Robert over at mrdeck.com has a track record with the stuff and some very nice work, now if a person wanted to go with a sure thing in man made material it is possible with this material, other wize its going to be a roll of the bones for the next few years. If the carpenter cares about his reputation, then, voila, you've got leverage. There are a number of outlets to let people know about the quality of his work, Angies List being one of them. However, that is the card you must not play until you are sure that he will do nothing to correct the situation or cannot correct it. Your daughter wouldn't have to say a word - the photos will speak volumes! I do think that you need to give him an opportunity to correct the problems. Let him know what you think the problems are - I would start by photographing all the problems with the cabinets and send sending photos to him with a detailed explanation of all the issues and what corrections you expect. (that's why I think calling a "forensic" carpenter would be useful in helping you detail issues that might not be easily seen.) If he really cares about his reputation, he most certainly wouldn't want photos of this shoddy work to get out.

Well, Lola, I think we're all a bit relieved you didn't leave a middle schooler with two college boys so you could move across country to be with a man and his kids only to complain that he was parenting his kids! Couple questions: How old are his kids? How long have they been divorced? Who instigated the divorce? It seems he has an established life and pattern with this woman. It seems that either he doesn't want to change the pattern, or he doesn't know how, or he does, but doesn't want to make waves. Anyway you look at it, it sucks. I hate the ex-wife call, the ex-girlfriend call, etc. My poor DH has to listen to my DD talk on the phone with my ex 4-6 times a week. On speaker phone. And let me tell you, my ex is SUPER annoying to listen to for me, so imagine how he must feel!!!!! (oh, right, you already know! :) As for voices/personality changes, I've noticed kids change voices with different adults, as adults change voices with kids. I think this is pretty common. My DH gets a high pitched voice around my DD that drives me nuts, but she seems to like it. My DD gets a little more pouty and introverted around him than me. I think it's just because she doesn't know him as well as she knows me. Your husband may be feeling awkward in his dual roles as lover and father (not to mention how to act around the ex) and unsure of how to be the middle man. "I've taken them in too many times to count for dinner, rides and washing their clothes without so much as expecting a Thank You from anyone." You'll probably catch flak for that statement. You married a man with kids. Expect to do a lot of things without a thank you, you are now a mom with all the stress and strain and without the benefit of automatic mommy love. It's a rough road, and you earn every callous on your patience, heart and hands. So about him changing when the boys are around. Can you talk to him about this, ask him casually if he's noticed he has a split personality? (not in those words, of course!) About her... yeah... not much you can do. Time will take care of that, unless they're planning to live across the street from one another for the rest of their lives. Then, retirement could be a little less relaxing than planned, right? "Honey, take your cane when you go out to get her groceries and put on her snow tires, it's slippery out there"! LOL. Sorry, not trying to laugh at your misery but the image was pretty funny!!! Six years is a long time. Where will the boys be school-wise at that time? Would they go with you? Or would they stay with mom? I'm pretty uncomfortable with the whole situation, frankly. How long did you know him before moving cross-country to live with him in his town in his life with his kids? Ohhh, one suggestion? Have you ever considered doing the phone answering and chore doing yourself? Answer the phone, oh hi _______, I think the mauve eyeshadow will compliment your eyes better, and was that cream of chicken soup you needed? You're a team, I bet your husband might enjoy not having to do as many chores where she is concerned and she'd probably get really tired of dealing with you. Plus, a couple of wrong purchases might convince she's better off doing her own shopping. Progresso? I thought you said store brand! Oops, my bad! Say, did you know there's a great grocery delivery place? I have their number somewhere... I'm sure you're tired of having to depend on us!

hairmetal - I have a vague memory that maybe I sent you an email about this over a year ago. But maybe not - if I did, consider it have had a non-disclosure clause! Thanks for not revealing if that was the case. Anyhow, like I said no clues! But if I knew nothing about this case...if I had not been the OP of this thread...I would say that is certainly a safe inference! I'm just so annoyed because I heard about this breeding program "through the grapevine" maybe 5 years ago now. So to have found out it has all gone down the drain over greed and nationalistic hubris...ugh!

The message below was posted with a thread over at the KT, where things are always noticed and mentioned on the board right away.

Hi Everyone --

It looks like when the forum pages were indexed last night, something went awry. It's caused some issues with pages not displaying properly, posts not opening and the search engine on any of the THS forums to not work. Pages are backed up, so nothing will be lost, but depending on what needs to be fixed, I don't have an ETA on when it will be back to normal.

Thanks for your patience and sorry for the inconvience.

Any questions or if you see any other oddities, don't hesitate to email me (link on my profile) or use the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the forum.

I'm guessing and hoping that they will in time retrieve the lost pages. I was just especially happy that the reviews at The Rate and Review Forum weren't lost.

that is a serious loss of information. I have seen it happen on other forums and feel it is such a shame to lose that kind of knowledge base. Hopefully it is something temporary and it will return.

I agree DA many times the answers could easily be found with a quick search here or on a search engine. I do understand some do not get how to do a search on this forum, or how to do a successful search.

RC,
As anyone knows I have forever been a promoter of self-help first. Computers are analytical and if you are not blessed with the ability to think like a flow chart you have to develop the discipline. If you are unable to develop the ability then a user needs to cultivate the location and knowledge of resources; i.e. Help files, hardware included manual and instructions, manufactures' websites and finally forums.

When a question is asked and you can tell from face value that the member hasn't at least tried that's where my patience wavers a little bit. Just try I say. Some day I will read a " I have a CD burner, how do I use it?" question and I will probably be placed in a home.

You know come to think of it, I might have of course missed it, but I don't ever remember any member asking how to use a search engine.

"God bless the seekers of knowledge and those that share it with them." (Can't remember who.)

kudzu9, I sent a message to the tech support that you posted a link to...hope it does some good. I asked them to reinstate the previous post, if not all at least 6 or 8 months.

I for one used those closed history posts very often, and i'm almost like a junkie, I feel lost without them, I need them!!!

From the sound of my post above, they are working on it, and they have not been lost.

I think there is often a lot of confusion when it comes to searching due to the fact that there are 2 search boxes, and also 3 search links. The only one, as 'we' know that will retrieve the results for this forum only, is the one hidden at the bottom of the list of threads on page one. I wish they would do away entirely with the one at the very top, as the results just yield confusion for most members.
Some forums even have 3 search boxes, 2 of which yield results for the entire site.

Strangest, and most complete, disappearance I have ever seen. I went Googling and at least one day in early October had completely disappeared. Another day in early October only had one post in Google Cache. Much of the world might be trying to figure out how to erase Google Cache.
