Non-delivery dates - out of town

I will not be able to receive packages from Oct 18 to Oct 24, and so I would prefer that my partner not ship before October 23. If he/she has already shipped by today, I will probably receive it before I leave. I will have the post office hold my mail, but that will not work for UPS, although I can possibly make arrangements with my neighbors.

I won't be out of town, but I'll be in the hospital. I'm realizing how difficult (but fun!) it's going to be catching up on all those posts about people receiving.

I know Ann already sent a note to my partner saying I'd be "unavailbable" for a few days. Thanks, buddy, for being patient with me while I'm...well..a patient. ;)

Which one? lol I have three big boy tanks and a large community. 40 gallon stock tank..This has my 4 malawi cichlids, a pair of bichirs, and a pair of violet gobies. Substrate is washed desert sand. Lots of caves (stacked flat granite). A nice clump of yellow iris and river rush. This is the one I'm running the whisper on. I had my oscar and two marbled gobies in there until I moved so it had a diy cannister filter in there in addition to the hob for some time. 50 gallon hex...I don't like this tank so much because it's not roomy on the floor space like the others. I have my two marbled gobies and the oscar in there. The filter is two under sink filter cannisters chained with matala type matting. It is run by a 10$ harbor freight pump. The whole thing is ugly as heck but works good. This tank is going to go brackish as soon as the fish get big enough to go with the clowns (this may be a long time). It has some parrot feather in it but it's not doing so well without my lights being up. 150 gallon..metal tank with liner. 2 clown knives, one jack dempsey, and whatever feeders they haven't eaten. Filter is a five gallon bucket full of quilt batting fed by a pool pump (I think around 400 gph). This tank has no substrate because I'm going to have to move it again. It has a large clump of softstem rush. 75 community is the same filter system as the clown knives. I have to be sitting at the tank to remember everything fishy in there though lol. Plants: draceana, taro, and a small waterlily. Plants on the filter: Pothos, more draceanas, and had a nice pitcher plant but mites got it. Jeanie, I think the common purple coneflowers can take quite a bit of shade but maybe not full? I grew purple ones years ago in this area but they were so dark they sort of disappeared and didn't have much impact. I had never even been aware of the Pallida coneflowers until I got on here and read what you'd said about them in another other post. They remind me of the one yellow one called Gray Headed Coneflower which is in the Ratibida family like the Mexican Hats except it likes a lot of water and the Hats are very arid. Is that the one you are talking about on the yellow coneflower? Are you going to plant that Desert Willow? No shade really? I think of that as lucky but I am fighting too much, thanks to my neighbors tall Triffids. Merry has given me a given me an idea that is now growing. I have this problem one ft tall "step" of hacked out dirt (ugly) between my property and the house next door I keep weeded running about 120 feet down the whole west side that is about 2 ft wide on top. Really hideous with old fence posts. Truly bad. Then, theres his "yard" as a backdrop. I kept thinking to put grasses (the only thing I have tried that doesn't lean away toward the east) in front to hide it but now I am considering English Thyme and Creeping Rosemary to cover it. I hadn't even considered herbs because of the shade and the way anything else would lean away from his tall trees. I have tried so many different things in this long area and it all leans unattractively. I am now thinking these would probably grow over the ugly step part and cover this mess so I don't need so much tall stuff growing in front to completely block it. Its morning sun in parts and a lot more shade in other parts and I think that would actually work! I have been mulling over this problem all summer and a lightbulb went off with the English Thyme taking shade. I know the Rosemary will but had never thought of it either.

The more I looked at the accent tile the better I liked it. Decision made. )(*&^ a 6 week back order on it. At least the main tile is in. That should work well, as it is tones of kitty litter grey with highlights of cat hair brown. Now my designer friend says that what is 6 weeks compared to 20 years of enjoyment...but she is already divorced, and I dunno how well DH would take 6 weeks. On to e-bay. Would you believe I think I found the same thing? with a 4 day delivery time???? Heck even if it is not exact, it would be close enough for the shower, so at least part of the bathroom would be functional. I wear out my fingers calculating square footage of the different tile sizes for shower stall and bathroom walls. Now that the tub will not be along the wall with the sloped ceiling, how far up should the wall tile go??? and where should the accent piece be??? and do I want the shower seat to have the wall tile or the floor tile or both???? and as my philosophical friend (not the designer one) would say, against a backdrop of infinite time and space, does it really matter anyway???? too early in the morning for a stiff drink, so I have strong coffee instead. The Thermasol unit is now in at the post office, so off I trot. The ol' credit card is smoking so badly by this time I am afraid to walk near a smoke detector. Quite the unit. Handyman Dave and I decide to put the unit in DH's half of the clothes closet as that is closest to the shower. Did I mention DH is still at his mother's? Dump day is tomorrow, so I loaded up the trashed drywall into the back of the pick-up. I salvaged the useable 2x4's, figured I could use the grab bar to replace the barn door handle, and eyeballed the old sink to see if it could make a waterer for the chickens. I was unscrewing the toilet bowl handle to keep as a spare "just in case" when I came to my senses and said who was I kidding anyway and tossed the lot. Tomorrow I will swing by the dump then head to town to pick up the sink (Neptune Delight) and toilet (Toto Drake) as the plumbing store just called to say they were in.

Anecdotes are not necessarily trends nor do they necessarily represent the aggregate of the data. Anecdotally, I never had a pro or con view of unions and I tended to view them negatively growing up. I'm old enough to have worked in quite a few union and non-union places. What I have observed is folks in union places work harder than non-union, as they are treated and act more professionally. But that's just my small life and data-set, no more true or relevant than anyone else's, otherwise known as having an official value of .02. And one need not need have a degree to be a smart or logical person. Plus, DePaul University is a fine institution, IMHO, and one does receive a liberal education in college, which should make one a good parser of information. He cites references better than some of my students. I'm not saying it's a good or bad defense of shopping habits and the ethics of Walmart, but neither is the defense that a cinema degree from DePaul University means your article isn't "good." If you check the usual suspect rating scores, DePaul is in the middle, but even that does not show the whole story, as there are many inherent biases in college rankings. I personally would prefer the musings of a hard working kid from the streets who worked his way through a mid range university with grit and determination over a "gentleman's C" student from Yale any day!

I'm going to be out of town from Oct 19 to Oct 26, I'll bre shipping as soon as I get back and catching up on what has been recieved at that time. I'm really excited about a great find.....

I'm so obsessed with my planning that I forgot to tell you guys that I won't be here from Mon. Oct. 30th to Nov. 6th. Norm will be here so there's no problem with a package, I just won't be able to respond.

I'm locking my self away at The Oaks At Ojai, a well known fat farm, to quit smoking. Turning 60 has really gotten to me! I'm lucky enough to get to this age in good health but I don't want to have to start walking around with an oxygen tank. I quit 14 years ago, for 3 years, but gained over 50 pounds despite going to the gym faithfully for the first and only time in my life. Stared smoking again and lost 25 pounds without trying. Then worked at the other 20. So this time I'm going to try dieting while kicking the habit. And I have to go away because I'm not a nice person when I can't smoke, and I'd like to maintain my marriage!

Sorry, swap partner, that I didn't mention this sooner. I've been so busy trying to get my package together and making my quit plan and getting my goody bag together I spaced this out.

I'm away this weekend (Nov 4-5). I'm taking the older three kids to see The Cheetah Girls! (Susie...I emailed you!) DH is home, but has been told to keep his paws off!

If my package arrives this weekend, I WILL post first thing Monday morning (or sooner, if we get back in town early enough).
