How to uninstall Trend Micro anti virus program

A few weeks ago I let my Trend Micro program lapse. Among the many messages they sent to me pleading with me to renew was one that gave the instructions (complicated) on how to uninstall prior to installing the newer version. I thought I had saved that, but lost it. I wondered why simply using "add/remove" programs would not work.

I haven't tried anything yet including "add/remove". How would I know if it in fact worked?

What's the best was to uninstall Trend Micro? I plan to then install Microsoft's free Security Essential which seems to have good reviews on this forum. Thanks.

add remove never removes all of the large antivirus suites, you can use their specific removal tool, I would try that first following the directions on their site, or if problems are encountered you can use the free REVO uninstaller which does a nice job.

I attempted to remove Trend Micro per instructions of Ravencajun. It was a most complicated process and I finally gave up on it when I "unzipped" 22 folders half a dozen times and the same unzip box reappeared.

Finally, I cancelled all of this incomprehensible stuff and went to the simple "add/remove" option that is part of my Windows program. I clicked on "remove", and it indicated I had about 70mb of Trend Micro stuff, and asked was I sure I wanted to remove. Yes, of course. The green progress bar (made up of little squares) ran in its box for ahile, I was asked to reboot, and it seemed like that was the end.

I rebooted and looked in my files for traces of Trend Micro, and could only find a few titles with 0kb content. I deleted these titles. The Trend Micro icons are gone.

Am I rid of it? Seems like I am. How to check?

who the heck are all these new people and some of the things suggested here are not the ones you want please be careful we have had some trolls here lately trying to sell their junk. You can not run 2 antivirus programs at the same time if they are both running full time it will cause a conflict that is very well known and documented and will be told to you at any of the support forums you go to so you need to fully remove Norton since you now have AVG. go here and use app remove and the norton removal tool from the security garden link Antivirus Product Removal Tools Using AppRemover it is free spybot search and destroy was at one time very good but today there are some that are much preferred so I suggest replacing spybot and adaware with these free products, update them each time you use them and scan weekly with full scan. WOT just click there and on that page click on the download now and you want to get the one for the browser you use so if you use Internet Explorer choose the one for it IE if you use firefox choose the one for firefox, if you use both then you have to get both for each browser and use the specific browser to get them. that is all there is to it, after that you will see the green yellow or red circles to let you know if you want to go to that page, if it is red stay away.

I think it's important to remember at this time that the reason FREE AV and anti-malware products exist at all is that they are trying to get their foot in your door to try and sell you the PAID version. To that end, confusing and misleading claims about the offerings of competitors are the order of the day. If the claims about conflicts with Avira are true, I would be more suspicious of Avira than the others. I dropped Avira years ago because they were trying to force their "toolbar" on their users and forcing them to jump thru several hoops to get rid of it. They were also becoming very pushy about getting free users to become paid users. Looks like now I have another reason to cross it off my list entirely for my personal use, though if anyone did try Avira I'd be interested in hearing what they have to say about it.

Maybe that's why they're willing to give it away for free? The last computer I bought came with Windows 10. The first thing I did was go though the menu, turn off the annoying (to me) live tiles. Then I removed whatever I wasn't interested in that I could. Some by just removing from "Start". Others by uninstalling (right-click and read). The others that offered no easy way of uninstalling, I used PowerShell to remove. (I think CCleaner now offers a way to uninstall them?) " ... I'm intending to replace everything on my new ssd with everything on my old, now Linux machine ... " That should work the same as the first time. Or easier since you've done it before. If you haven't, you may want to create a boot-able version of your cloning software. If Linux is fast on the older spin drive, it will be even faster on the ssd. Especially booting. " ... trouble getting the computer to let me boot from anything except the Windows C drive ... " On my Acer F12 lets me select the boot device. You'll might want to go into BIOS/UEFI and change the boot order though. So you don't have to select it every time. I just not long ago got around to getting a computer with UEFI instead of the older BIOS. I had a lot of trouble learning how to deal with it. I'm still not 100% confident using it. So... I keep images just in case. And just in case I somehow mess up grub so badly it won't boot (I have): Super Grub2 Disk Of course, if you blow away Windows, you won't have to worry about boot order. I keep Windows as dual boot in case I want to use it. And I do use it, if for no other reason than to boot into and use Macrium Reflect to image my Linux drive. Gives me nice small images and it's quick.

unzipped? sorry I do not see in any of the directions a zipped uninstall file?? where are you getting the zipped file at?

it is highly unlikely you are rid of it, that is why trend micro creates the uninstall tools.
which version do you have? I provided the instructions for most of the versions with their respective removal tool.

this link from Corrine's blog list the various removal tools and how to go about it and Trend Micro is listed, maybe that will help.

I should have mentioned that I got the uninstall tool from the list of options Ravencajun provided in the first response to my original post.

I started following the instruction of the uninstall tool which led me to "unzipping" my Trend Micro files. I did. There followed some other instructions which left me puzzled. It was then that I went through the simple "add/remove" option Windows provides.

The "antivirus removal tools" suggested above from Corrine's blog is where I went to get the tool.
