does your cat dart for the door every time you open it?
Comments (20)I've used the water bottle in the past to keep my cats off the breakfast table and after a couple of times all I had to do was set the bottle out on the counter and they would walk away. Have a bottle with you and if he's waiting at the door as you're entering from outside, a quick spray won't hurt him but will get his attention. Just try not to hit him directly in the face. Otherwise, the other suggestion to put him in another room will direct his attention elsewhere while you bring in stuff. Does he have a tower, window seat, toys, things to climb, etc?? If you decide to walk him (yes, cats are walked on leash) be very aware of dogs and make sure the leash fits securely. I have a Maine Coon I tried to leash walk and if I stopped and let him just lie around he would roll, twist and turn, and before I knew it he was walking away a free cat. After trying 4 different harnesses, I gave up. Fortunately, his escapes always happened on our property. Some cats are just drawn to the outdoors and this may or may not be an ongoing battle....See MoreHow to lock sliding glass door to stay open a bit?
Comments (22)To add on to what macv mentioned about security, I will also point out that sliding doors can typically be lifted up and out of their tracks, particularly when the existing lock is not engaged, unless they have the 1" space above the door fitted with a couple of screwed-in spacers or bumpers; whether they do varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and/or how responsible the installer was. The fact that the door can be de-mounted is great if you need to do some maintenance on it, but it's also great for burglars. A sliding door on the outside has the potential to be even more vulnerable to this kind of mischief. Depending on your particular door set-up and on what type of solution you come up with to your original problem, make sure this issue I've described is either not a problem or is taken care of....See MoreConnecting a wood panel door to a fridge door, to open together.
Comments (21)Wow, great photos. Such a simple device. And "smooth as silk" too. The last pic shows a minor movement where the strip might pull away from the panel door since the other part is more rigid, fixed to the fridge door. Since this strip is screwed at one end only, it can flex a little and pull away a 1/16th of an inch as the two doors open. This is an advantage since it can assure the two parts remain better aligned than if the strip were bolted at both ends. I'm looking for a White plastic slider like this. I have already seen it on Liebherr (HC-1001 and HC-1050) and on the Blomberg BRFB-0900 and on old Miele fridges. Today I don't know where to order the white ones as a kit (unless I go through the parts distributor for these fridges). The Hafele slider is made in Brown plastic, so I haven't followed through with ordering a box of ten. -david...See MoreFridge door opening;pantry open or an 18" filler? (w/pics) Preference?
Comments (10)@idecor, thanks. The fridge is a right hand swing door and only needs 1/8" beyond a standard cabinet to open the max 115 degree opening at counter depth (24"). With a wall blocking PAST counter depth, it will stop at a 90 degree opening (which I don't want) and to your point, would be a bad design. But, if the pantry doors are partially open (because it would then swing past that 24" wall to the pantry), you still get the full open swing -- the only question here is whether having one of the pantry multi slide doors open to accomplish that is whether it would be an odd experience for full door opening. For example if someone entertains all the time and wanted the pantry doors fully closed, that would be an issue if it's unorganized. Opposite to that if you are entertaining and in and out of the pantry cooking, etc. the doors (3 multi slide) would probably be open anyway. perhaps not the perfect design if the pantry door has to open, but maximizes what I believe more important, is the working counter space to the right of the 48" range (having said that as a right handed person :) And, this does assume the pantry organization and function is a 'work of art'; which I plan on, as an extension to the kitchen working space. Did you put a fridge in this situation and regretted it? Thanks so much....See Morebreezygirl
