Searching for App that notifies you of best price/price drop

A number of months ago, I remember seeing a review for good apps (can't remember if it's for pc's of smartphones) - that notifies you of price drops - and/or best current price.

I used to use mysimon - but that was a long time ago. And I don't believe they notified you or price drops.

Is there something I can use on my pc or smartphone that would notify me of price drops. There are so many pricey electronics we want to get as gifts. These prices fluctuate daily - but I can't spend so much time every day seeing if a better price has turned up.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and have an app to recommend?

I have seen several of that type app recently from the Kim komando site. I get her newsletter and she features apps, she has been doing all kinds of shopping helper apps. I would check her site out for the recently recommended apps.

Are you looking for Android or ipad apps that is important for us to know so we suggest one you can actually use.

we wern't impressed by our builder "discounts". I would definately shop around. In some cases we went with the builder supplier (e.g. lighting, cabinets) but in other cases we found a better local supplier and now the builder has switched over to them (e.g.granite). In some cases we purchased items on line and gave them to the builder (e.g. sinks). In the case of the lighting, we did not get the absolute best price on the fixtures (although the prices were good and dicounted off suggested retail) BUT we did get a "free" design and that was well worth the small premium on the fixtures. We could have saved a few dollars by puchasing the same lights on-line but we did have some broken fixtures on delivery (replaced quickly) and the lighting in our house is fantastic. There is something to be said for having a local supplier who can quickly get you parts or replace an item if there are problems. But you have to weigh that against what you are getting locally and any savings you can get on line. For example, we purchased our faucets locally using the builder's plumbing supplier but we bought the stainless steel sinks on line. The markup on SS was unbelievable (2 grand for a Kohler kitchen sink with the "discount" - are they nuts!). I think we paid 1 grand for 4 SS sinks - 16 gauage - they are awesome and we got that tip from GW. So Scrutinize every line item and do not assume that every item on the list is at the best discount you can get. Toilets were another one - we bought Toto's on-line and got a very good deal. The appliance purchase was amazing. Builder told us that his guy had the very best prices. BS - we saved over 4 grand by buying appliances from a local store who has been around for decades and their price included installation!. Plus we got 0% financing on the stuff which we just finished paying off - nice to have that off the mortgage. I don't think I would buy appliances on-line - research that approach and definately don't be affraid to check local stores and tell them the best prices you can get on line - see if they will at least match it or throw in installation. Shop til you drop. Its your money that they want to take. PS - assume that EVERY builder "allowance" is crap - pulled out of the air. Validate every allowance against actual bids from suppliers for items that are at the quality level you expect. Hopefully you can do this before you sign the contract. If we had only budgeted what our builder "allowed", we would have no lights and probably have plywood for countertops.

Sorry about that -- I didn' say who I purchased it from!! I bought them from homeclick.com Maybe a few people have had issues, but I checked them out I went for it. Call me crazy, but when I have three or four major things that cost lots of money, I do think it's worth some time to research online for the best deal. (Best deal means good price and good company -- needs to be a combo) My husband calls me the "Queen of Research" b/c I have saved thousands -- and I do mean thousands from a few phone calls and some hours online. I don't think that is too much to ask. Heck, a good search engine does the work for you. All the variables can make the toilet a little tougher to find what you want in stock and with a discount, but it can happen. Buying locally just wasn't an option, and I have NO problems buying online.

I just threw mine away - I liked the product and this spring and summer they really did help keep my pool warm (we have cool breezy nights and without them on dropped 9-10 degrees a night which was about what our solar could recover during the day - with the covers we only dropped about 3 degrees - so they really allowed us to gain and keep a nice comfortable water temperature. We had some problems with broken seals (ie they leaked air when they were delivered so the outside rings would not stay inflated) and the company was fantastic about replacing them. (we bought ours from a couple different sources in batches since we needed about 14 to get full coverage) - the supply companies all referred us to the SSR manufacturer who was very quick to send us replacement rings when we described the problem - so they really do stand behind the manufacturing. We over inflated, under inflated, perfectly inflated etc...and re-balanced the inflation levels on a weekly basis - but continued to have a lOT of problems with them blowing around (not "out" of the pool - but an edge flipping over and bunching up). Granted there is CONSTANT breeze/wind at our house (we're only a couple miles from water with really nothing much between us and the water to block the wind off it) - so this may not be a problem for others. We have built our own rings (from the plans above) - and they weathered a pretty huge rain/wind storm in Nor Cal just fine this weekend...so I say they are just enough sturdier to answer my main complaint. I think the concept is fantastic and really liked the product - but you need to think about where you live and what your wind levels are - these IMO were not maintenance free - but were easier and cleaner than a solid large cover...and I think you won't find them for under about $20 each - I paid between $20 and $25 each for mine through various internet sources.

I use Price Blink on my pc. I don't know if it's available for phone or not. It notifies me of other prices and also coupons or free shipping.

Boy - this is just not my day.

I downloaded Priceblink - but can't get past the second step. It installs. Then says to click to verify - and another tab opens up and I can see it working for whatever product it randomly selected. It lists all kinds of retailers and prices for the item. But then it says to return to the first window. When I do that, nothing in that window has changed. There is no place to enter an item that I want to search for. I can't click on anything in the screen. I tried it on my desktop this morning. Now I tried it on my laptop in case it was just a quirk on my desktop. But I must be missing something obvious. once it's installed, how do you open it and use it. Looks like a great add-on.

Raven - I have an android phone. I tried to download some of the apps in that Lifehacker list - but google play just wasn't working. It kept forcing closed. I typed the name of the apps - but pressing enter to search led nowhere. So I'm going to try again now on home wifi - in case I was just getting throttled on 3G earlier in my office.

I love the Amazon app that gives you 5% off. I get things from Amazon all the time. Getting the discount and ordering from my smartphone is a great option.

I just let PriceBlink do its own thing. For example, when I am searching an item on a site, Price Blink pops up at the top of the screen with information about other merchants or coupons or free shipping or whatever. I do not go to their website at all.

Now I tried it on my laptop in case it was just a quirk on my desktop. But I must be missing something obvious. once it's installed, how do you open it and use it.
Did you try it yet as grandms suggested?

What browser are you using? Did you check to see if it was installed and enabled?

Chemocurl - thanks for your info. I do use Firefox - and somehow it did not get installed as an add-on - so I"m going to re-install. For my laptop, I didn't realize that it would just do it's thing and pop-up when I looked at items on the web. I kept trying to enter items on their webpage. Later on, I was just shopping on my laptop - and there it was. Very useful.

Turns out I was also able to download amazon price-checker on my android phone. That is truly remarkable - and turned up better prices than priceblink. But I like using several sources anyway.

This weekend I'll probably install my android shopping apps.

I have been addicted to slickdeals.net - especially through the past Black Friday/Cyber Monday Shopping frenzy. There is a search engine that will bring you to different forums for anything you are looking for in any category and deals are posted lightening fast. The site reminds me of GW with the forum setting where people can ask question and research different products.

I am not sure if the site will notify you off price drops specifically, but I think you can get "deal notifications" sent to your android device.

There is also an APP. I love the search engine and find this site particularly helpful with buying electronics and computer products (including Apple) which can be so confusing and technical.
