Goodies from New York! (pics)

My package from Debbie814 arrived yesterday - thanks Debbie! Sorry you didn't get my email from Gardenweb - we'll have to figure out why some folks don't get those.

Anyway I was so busy at work I couldn't even unwrap the stuff until today.

Debbie sent some really tasty treats from the Chautauqua area in a theme called "Simple Pleasures".

Including 2 jars of award winning preserves, a jar of winter pickles, Dinosaur barbeque sauce, strawberry balsamic vinegar, and 2 kinds of Hawaiian salt - a red sea salt and a black lava salt! Debbie also sent the Chautauqua Bird Tree & Garden Club Sampler Cookbook.

Everything was individually wrapped in festive paper (note my beautiful new plywood counters):

That looks like a very tasty package. I would love to try the balsamic vinegar. I hope those pickles are as good as Sharons too.

I'm very impressed w/ everyone's shopping qualities..the labels are a nice touch too..
This is like a shopping spree in a gourmet store..all done for you and with sentiment:)

Yippee! I am so thrilled your DH liked the cow tags! I have quite a few that I am going to use for decorating with, but I wanted to share some with my GJ buddies. Glad you are going to do something with the glass fish. I couldn't get around to a project for them, but knew someone else could come up with a great idea. The only other thing I see from me is the little blue and green candle holder. I was kinda thinking the center for a plate flower but just didn't have time to make any. I forgot to post my pics of what I got from the box so guess I better do that,too. I know who one of my treasures came from, so it will be cool to see who sent the other ones. Hi Ron, Yep, the Adirondacks are a fantastic place -- magic in every season. I'm glad to bring back some fond memories. The tamaracks are actually on a small pond/bog off the Ausable River (right off 86) called Little Cherrypatch Pond. It's in between Lake Placid and Whiteface. The hemlocks are overlooking Chapel Pond. The red spruce is from a hike up Owl's Head, near Cascade Pass. I don't remember if the mountain behind is Pitchoff itself, but you're looking in that general direction. Red pines also from the same hike, as is common juniper. The yew and witches broom on the fir are from the banks of the Ausable, also near Whiteface. One place I loved (but was without a camera) was Copperas Pond. The most rocky, "alpine-looking" pond I've seen there. I could sit all day. -James

Im growing hot peppers in southern NY a lil north of the edge of suburbia entering into rural country. My pepper plants are doing well. I wanna try growing some of them Bhut's next year if i research on how to get some seeds. I never tried a Bhut Jolokia. The peppers that you are growing that look like other varieties could possibly be crossed or maybe the seller just sent ya wrong seeds. Buy anyway i hope they turn out good for eats.

OMG, I loved every picture, IdaClaire!! Thank you so much for sharing. You're a talented photographer. As others suggested, I hope you make a keepsake book of your photos. Too often, we forget to PRINT our travel pictures and maybe it's just me but enjoying digital travel memories doesn't warm my heart that much. I'm so glad you enjoyed Manhattan and totally related to your solo discovery. One of my favourite lifetime experiences. Couldn't help but smile at your recollection of the honking drivers.

So what type are the preserves? great looking package. Nice job Debbie. Very brave to do all glass!! Although I guess that way there was nothing to get wrecked if something spilled on it. LOL!

The book looks intriging. I have a penchant for local club and association cookbooks. Tell us about the recipes inside.

I love balsamic vinegar on fresh strawberries; I can just about taste one made with strawberries. Very yummy.

Debbie, I too like the little labels that you added to the outside wrapping.

Oh that cookbook looks so interesting. I just love those cookbooks put together by local groups. I have one from my library that is fabulous but sadly no longer in print.

And the preserves! They are my weakness. Yum. Yum. Yum.

Great package Debbie - I love balsalmic vinegar but haven't tried any variations, that sounds delicious for a summer salad. Can't wait to see recipes from the cookbook! Enjoy Gina :)

What a delicious box of stuff, a theme after my own heart. LOL

The balsamic vinegar does look very interesting and so does the salt, I'm not even going to try to pronounce that cookbook, though.

Talk about a sampler package- wow -- lots of flavors there . The Dinosaur Sauce is great-. And nothing like homemade -- like she sent a bit of herself to a friend .

Oh I love those Hawaiian salts! I've not tried strawberry balsamic vinegar. I'll bet it's really good. Just the right hint of something extra! The preserves, pickles and BBQ sauce sound delicious! I always love cookbooks! What a great assortment you've got there, Gina!

I had Debbie as a partner a few swaps back. That Dino sauce is very good, biker approved! I hope you share a recipe or two from the cookbook. I've never heard of that type of salt before. Great package Debbie!

Oh boy, I love everything.

In a previous swap, Cathy sent me red Hawaiian Sea Salt, it is wonderful. Never heard of black lava salt or strawberry balsamic vinegar, but sure sounds like a good way to dress a summer salad.

Every thing looks yummy well, except the cook book which I'm sure has alot of yummy recipes. Did we find out what the preserves are yet?

It does all look so good. I'd love to try the Strawberry balsamic and pickles and preserves are favorites here.

What a great selection of gourmet treats! Very nice and very different. The little notes are a very nice touch too...

about those pickles.....it's almost pickle time, ya never know.

I'm also impressed with Debbie's choice of goodies, as well as her wrapping skills. I really suck at that.

For those of you who have inquired about the black lava Hawaiian sea salt, it is great on vegetables. I first heard about this salt in the chef's column in the Wall Street Journal. I can't recall the chef's name, but he highly recommended it.
