just do the little work around it is super easy just some dragging and dropping involved just right click the taskbar and unlock it before you start, choosing toolbars then NEW toolbar is very simple and then dragging and dropping the new one on to the desktop is just one move. When you right click on that new one on the desktop you will be able to see the address bar option to select. Once you have that then just grab onto that new toolbar and drag it back to the taskbar next to the start button. Thats it now you have your new address bar toolbar on the taskbar. You can leave the other one on your desktop if you want or just delete it or drag it to the recycle bin. But you do want to remember to right click on the taskbar and check to lock it so it all stays in place.

Sapphires, If your taskbar is locked, what they call the "Sizing Handles" disappear. To make them reappear, move your cursor to the clock, right-click, and remove the check from "Lock the Taskbar." Once that is done, you should see the sizing handles. Move your cursor to the sizing handle you want to move and when your cursor changes into a double-headed arrow, hold down your left-mouse button and drag the sizing handle to where you want it. When finished moving them, go back to the clock, right-click and put a check back in "Lock the Taskbar." HTH Terry

Unfortunately, DA's solution didn't work... zep, I read the information at your link; and I officially have information overload. : ) Can't... do... it... I'm not really sure what to do. Is it because of the network connection? I see it happened to cg, too. I believe the icon didn't disappear until about a week after I set up the network. And I don't know if this is related; but my internet connection keeps getting cut off constantly when I'm using my laptop (this started a few days ago). Grrr. I think I may try something I read (about the cut-off internet connection) - and that is - shut off both computers; and unpower the modem and router, and repower them up in order of modem, then router (I have to read the instructions again : P )... That probably has nothing to do with the volume icon on the desktop (which ran like a charm for more than 5 years until I set up my network : / )

Loralee, that has happened to me several times, I am blaming a herky jerky finger sometimes, and sometimes when I play cards, the task bar has a mind of it's own, so when these things happen, that don't happen often, and I am staring and wondering What happened? I write the solution down in a little book I have, so if it happens again, at least I don't have to come into the forum to find the answer. I know most of the time it is my own fault, and I feel somewhat bereft about that, I am a senior, and should know better by this time. regardless, I always appreciate the help provided by the great gang here, and know it will always be available.
