Is Chrome the right choice? Cleaning?
Comments (26)avidchef - glad no worries! I think I was reacting to my kitchen designer and the people at the main showrooms we looked at. But I don't mean to disparage them either. Our KD designed a magnificent space that I'm sure we will love, and paid close attention to the statements and tastes that we mentioned. I'm sure the showroom salespeople were just trying to point out the features that they were used to dealing with, like whether an appliance handle was a "professional" one and would that match the other appliance handles. I only felt, as is the case with some GW threads, that they had pointed out something I NEVER would have noticed but will now notice the rest of my life! Anyway, what do you mean by a locking spray? Something that stays "spray" even when you turn it off? We had a doohickey attached to our oldish cheapish faucet that was easy to adjust from stream to spray and back again. It swiveled so that there was no pull-out NOR a pull-down. One of the faucets I admired in my search seemed to have a head that could screw off so that I could attach the doohickey to, but then ended up being $1200, and I just couldn't spend that. However, I realize that we used the spray MUCH more than the stream (unless perhaps we were filling a water bottle), and that lots of specs we've seen don't specify whether the faucet will stay the way you left them or default to stream again. Good luck with your search! bean...See MoreAin't too proud to beg GW:) Layout help please!
Comments (49)Buehl -- This is really fantastic! Thank you, thank you for all your help on this! The flow is amazing -particularly around the island with the new door - and the zones are so clearly designated now and much more practical. Regarding your questions: PANTRY- we have a pantry designated in the plans (as "Wine") in the library. It will be located under the new staircase (which probably won't get finished until the fall of 2012) and accessed through a door in the library. Having those 2 columns you added on either side of the sink wall is great, though!! (DH loves it!) . You also asked whether I'd like a walk-in or step-in pantry - where do you see that going? and I'm assuming that would replace the 2 columns on the sink wall? DWs - DH and I really like the config you have. The more I think about it, the more I see how it will streamline what I do in the kitchen. MIELE speed oven - Since we're going with the 48" (you like that better than the 36" right?) I think the speed oven is all I need - it's a regular oven, micro, convection and speed oven all in one. So I think I'm leaning toward having it under the Miele espresso - this is purely a form/aesthetic call on my part :). Do you think I'm making a functional mistake?! LIBRARY/KITCHEN ISLAND - We both are thrilled about your drawing here too. I always wanted a buffet/hutch scenario from the beginning but thought it wasn't possible. Thank u! A couple questions: 1. Do you see the previously drawn half columns going away and being replaced by the two 28.5" side cabs (that reach from the counter to the ceiling)? The column closest to the refrig is faux but we will need a structural beam on the other side (probably going down to crawl space - we have a structural engineer working on all of those issues this week. It supports a critical junction in the house (i.e., where the vaulted ceiling ends along with supporting the second floor load) Do u think we'll be able to hide it in the new cabinet? 2. I saw you replaced the 24" mini bev fridge with refrig drawers. Have you found better success with those? 3. How do you see the other side of that bar functioning ? I see that it's bumped out in the middle with blue dots - just wondering what that means. I can't wait to hear your thoughts! 2 more functional questions-sorry! : 1. TV - Where would u put a small flat screen tv? (DH request-and I'd probably like it too) I'm thinking somewhere in the sink wall area - or above the Miele stack? 2. Cookbooks - I have at least 150. Is there anywhere they could go? If not, I've designated a cabinet in the TV room for them. Nice to have but not necessary. We are so excited about this new design buehl! It's definitely more functional and I think it's more beautiful too! Thx again - make that a million times thanks buehl! davidro 1 - thx for bringing up the fridge dimension question ! I went online and checked the Wolf and Sub-Zero dimensions and I found that: (1) the fridge sticks out 28 and 3/8" (2) the range sticks out 26 and 3/16" - which means the deepest I could probably go out with the counter is 26" (vs. the std. 24")?? What do you think davidro 1 and buehl? Davidro 1 - is your reason for doing this that it looks better? And would you move the island accordingly 2 more inches to compensate? (making the distance between the island and the wall now 46") All of these things I hadn't thought about! Thx! lascatx - football season is draining! Our sons' friends are exhausted but having a great time! I am quickly becoming a Perlick convert - we chose that brand for the icemaker because we were unanimously told it's a superior product. DH LOVED your idea of them for our fridge drawers too. Thx for listing what you use them for too. Excited about that. And I love the idea of lighting the side glass cabs. I think it will lighten up the space and add some sparkle at night! I'm thinking I may use that backside space partially for cookbooks? I have about 150 of them and right now, I travel upstairs to the spare bedroom to retrieve them. Not practical at all - but I guess a decent workout - lol. Although I really like the idea of making that space usable from both sides. Hmmm ... What do you think?...See MoreWhich BS is easier to keep clean: Beadboard or subways w grout?
Comments (42)Your ideas are possibilities, Funkycamper. We talked about doing glass over the beadboard, too, but I do wonder if it would look funny.(?) I also wonder how successfully we could blend "real" beadboard with ceramic beadboard. That's part of why I was considering transitioning to a totally different medium behind the range, so that it wouldn't be real and fake right next to each other. Thanks for your vote of confidence! I revel in all of the possibilities, LOL, it's making a "final" decision that's tough! Thanks for sharing the tile you got, iroll. Since you did the beadboard only behind the range, I'm curious what you did elsewhere. I don't think crackle snaps or pops for DH, unfortunately. I found some gorgeous (or so *I* thought) crackle tile by Enser. DH response was "Oh, yuck! What's wrong with that tile?" So much for that, LOL. Your question of how much the eye "needs" is a good one, Rococogurl. I don't know. I love color, and I like neutrals, too. I'm not sure how much my eye, or the eyes of my family can handle. I also know that I love to change things around, so committing to a color feels a bit constrictive. I get you on the difficult appliance choice. So glad to hear that your final decision is made! You must be relieved. I was talking to a friend whose son works in China. He said, "Mom, life is so much simpler over here!" She visited him and saw that they don't have much kitchen to speak of, they wash their dishes in the bathroom. She questioned his idea of "simplicity", but he then explained how if they need a fridge there are only 2 choices at the store. A big fridge or a little fridge. That's it. There is no agonizing over which thing to choose. I don't care for the medallion/mural in the picture I shared, either. I didn't associate it with a certain era, necessarily (says the girl who just put her 1997 Chevy van to its final rest...) but I think I'd tire of the same picture back there, day in and day out. My daughter and I were talking about how we can't wait to turn the calender to see the new picture each month because we're tired of the old one. So, no stone murals for this household! : ) I don't mean to be a tease! ; ) Let's put it this way, right now I feel like I'll be as surprised how this kitchen looks as you will be, if that's any consolation. I plan to post pictures, no worries! Thanks for sharing the picture of your beadboard tile combo, diymom79. Both my mom and my MIL have the vinyl beadboard in their bathrooms and love it, too. MIL has hers with the wide plank look. It's very pretty. I feel like I'm at a beautiful beach cottage when I'm in there. : ) I picked up some fabric samples today from a local store. They are quilt fabrics, so I don't know if they'd be a good choice for curtains, but they do give me an idea of how the colors work with the cupboards. Fun! I like them both--Oops. One is light colored background with blue flowers, and the other one is a black background with pink and cream flowers with green leaves. Maybe I could make both summer and winter curtains?? I need to go to the city to find decorator fabric, but the weather isn't being very cooperative for that endeavor. So, if I must, I'll stare at the cotton samples for a few days. Here's a picture, so that I'm not teasing, LOL. This post was edited by laughable on Fri, Jan 30, 15 at 23:10...See MoreCapital Culinarian manual clean or Bluestar RCS
Comments (7)I have a 36" RCS and it is plenty powerful enough! The cooking you do sounds like what we do and you will be turning down the power I promise. I really wanted the RNB but cost made us go with the RCS. I thought it was a mistake and was quite disappointed thinking for $2k it didn't make sense to not go for the extra power (and the few other nicer options on the RNB). I'm not sure what I'd do with more power. Heresy in this day and age of more more more power, but it's true for me and what we cook. Stir frys are great, fish and chicken sear beautifully, and dh and I don't use full heat b/c it's too much. Other than heating up water, and stir frys, we rarely use full heat for very long. As for the oven, we make homemade pizzas about once a week and they come out beautifully. We cook them at 500F on a pizza stone. The heat is nice and consistent throughout, no hot or cold spots. I've made bread, cookies, baked fish and chicken and lots of other things, all coming out perfectly. I believe the fit and finish of the CC is nicer than the BS (RCS not RNB). But the newer RCS might be a better finish, I haven't seen the newest version in person. You will love either range. I am very very happy with the RCS, and many people on here love their CC's and their RCS's and RNB's....See Morekaseki
