Always try a simple reboot first - Restart the computer then try to connect with IE, then try to connect with Firefox

Tell me how you usually connects - cable modem & Router or dial up or dsl.

did the restart several times. Cable modem. It's redirecting me to google but if i click on anything
on google it goes back to this page cannot be displayed.

How about trying, activate IE>click on File. On the appearing drop down menu there is an entry near the bottom "Work Offline" (sans quotes). This should not be checked. If it is click on the entry>close IE. Now let's see if you can connect.

Does she have a DUN connection? If so, it is not uncommon for the above to happen if the user's attempt to connect via DUN fails.

I dunno,, some thoughts;

You can open a command prompt, or maybe type CMD in the run line, and type in at the prompt ;
traceRt www.yahoo.com
and see if it works to completion,,, to stop it CtrL+C if needed.
If it doesnt resolve that url name into a longer named url and IP#'s... and the same down the list of hops,,,, there is a command you might try to flush your dns cache;;;
ipconfig /?
one of the options should be to Flush DnS cache,,do that like this most likely;;
ipconfig /flushdns

Then try the 'traceRt www.yahoo.com again and see if it works.

If still not working next would be you Might want to look in IE internet Options, under the connections tab. Probably should be set to never dial a connection.. then push the LAN button while there, and uncheck all the boxes there if checked.

Another thing you might look at is windows services,,, you might right click the myComputer icon and select Manage. Down near the bottom you should see Services,, expand that out until you see a list of services,,, one of the services is DNS ,,, if it doesnt say Automatic and show as Started,,, double click it,, set it to auto,, and push the start button.

I dont know if you understand the HOSTS file,, something may have blocked everything... might look in it -- it has a small explanation on top that maybe you can understand.

Sounds like you have a google search bar and it knows its own ip. I hate search bars. heh.

are there any other computers using that connection and do they connect to the internet ok?

try clearing the cache on the browser, In tools, internet options, clear temp internet files etc.

if there are any add-ons for IE try turning them all off or removing them and restarting the browser.

have her download firefox browser and see if she can get that to work if so you know it is an Ie problem.

Duh? Just saw where the system in question is connected to cable. Sorry for the oversight. That's what happens when you read before your first coffee.

Maybe it's loading the Google page from the browser cache. Have you tried to reboot the Cable modem? Sometimes that's all it takes. If it has a power switch, turn it off for a few seconds and back on. If not, unplug it for a few seconds and plug it back in. HTH.

I think it may be malware the browser is being (redirected) to google and it may not be a real google page..

Please run the scan in the link SuperAntiSpware let us know if you are able to connect to the link provided try firefox or what ever is working now if anything.

If you can't get to the link we could consider a system restore before this problem occurred then run the scans, the clean out the restore points we can tell you how no biggie.

Ran all her virus and malware programs, still nothing. So i uninstalled each one at a time still not working. Finally i came to zonealarm and after it was gone it worked. I installed each one at a time and did a restart after each install. Came to ZA then again it wouldn't work. So again i uninstalled and deleted the whole thing. Download it again and did an install and this time it's working. Thanks to all for suggestions.
