I disagree. I don't think he has any right to get angry because the price was lowered after he bought. Why be angry? Happens all the time, every day of the week. Fact is, the proper response would have been to ask for the lower price instead of doing a huge investigation into the companies pricing practices, which by the way is confidential. ANyways, ketkin, I certainly do repsect your point of view. I see things slightly differently though. No biggy. But it was an interesting thread. Chittown sounds like a pretty good guy and he did admit that he might have done a better in wording his inquires. Oh well, have a banana of a day! Cheers.

Jose, Thanks for posting that information. I had seen it before when you posted it sometime back. It a good reminder and very applicable at certain times of the year. Some of these practices are indeed used by me the many Citrus growers in my area. They do work quite well. It is a well kept secret that Louisiana does indeed have a small (compared to Florida and California) Citrus Industry. The taste of Louisiana citrus rivals the fruit that is grown in Florida and California because it has a better sugar to acid ratio. Our farmers did a great job of protecting MANY citrus trees from the unusually cold winter that we had in our area this past season. I lost some but saved most of my citrus from the cold temperatures that we experienced. Fruitnut...... Wind chill is a function of both AIR temperature and its relative humidity level. And yes indeed, WIND CHILL CAN AFFECT PLANTS. Here is some technical information that I posted in another thread to help explain this multi variable phenomenon. [This is FYI only and for those other forum members who might want to know some "WHY's" behind potential leaf damage due to cold............it is not just about AIR TEMPERATURE. It is also about wind, leaf temperature, and air humidity level. On a windy night with clear or cloudy skies LEAF temperature will be nearly the same as AIR temperature. However, on a cold, clear night with little to no air movement.....leaf temperature can easily drop 3 to 4 degrees lower than the ambient air temperature. (It can drop as much as 8 degrees in my area.) This is because of the RADIATION heat loss of the fig leaves. The rate of heat loss of those leaves is a function of the air's humidity level. At higher humidity levels often frost will form on those leaves. So, while the ambient AIR temperature might only be 35 degrees F......the actual LEAF temperature might well be 31 to 32 degrees F. That temperature could affect tender new growth. In my area it is not uncommon for us to see frost form whenever the ambient air temperature is at 40 degrees F or below. This means that the actual leaf temperature reached 32 degrees F or below which froze the dew that condensed on the leaves as the dew point of the humid air was reached during the night. Late Spring frosts can kill fig trees in South Louisiana......especially if the outside air temperature has been cycling through several periods of warmth and cold. Yes, in my area, damaging frosts can form on fig leaves with ambient temperature as high as 40 degrees!! Ask me how I know and what I fear most at this time of year. Potential plant damage is really about leaf temperature and that is a bit harder to measure.] Dan

I live in Tennessee and really wanted to deal with a Tennessee nursery. It's a good idea to deal locally, I assumed. Maybe not, though. The tnnursery website currently has "Fast Shipping Nationwide" scrolling across the top. So naturally, I thought this would work for me. I could have my guys here in maybe ten days and the trees would be here. Nope. Unbeknownst to you when you order, it takes them 7-10 business days to ship out an order (they don't tell you this until you inquire as to if your trees have shipped). That's two weeks, give or take, before the order is ever put on the truck, then you have 3-5 business days transit on top of that. That's normally not an issue, except when you voluntarily set the expectation that the shipping is "Fast" and "Nationwide". I didn't need the 'Nationwide' part. I'm right down the road. Fast would have been nice, but if they had simply told me prior to ordering what kind of time frame I was looking at, I probably wouldn't have minded so much. But they set the expectation at "Fast" repeatedly, and so looking at other nurseries, who ship within a couple of days of ordering, I thought they would as well. Turns out, their shipping isn't fast. At all. In fact, it's so not-fast, that it may actually be the slowest shipping nursery in the market right now. Without exception, every other nursery I checked into ships faster. They probably get your order correct, too. I ordered the BOGO Free apricot trees, paid for two, so should have received four. I didn't. I got two in total. I ordered trees advertised at 3'-4' tall, and received trees that were 33" tall. When I have ordered trees in the past from other nurseries, they're always very generous with the height of the trees they send you. Order a 5'-6' tree, and you'll almost always get on that's 6 1/2 feet tall. When I called to let them know, the sales department answered, and when I tried to tell them what was going on, I was told that they don't accept phone calls, and that I would have to email someone. So I began emailing them, and received a few responses back and forth over a few hours, which is super annoying to have to constantly stop and restart again. Once I left them a bad review on their own website, someone reached out to me and called. She informed me that they include the length of the root ball in the total height calculation. I was ready for this, having called TyTyGa, Fast Growing Trees, and another I can't remember, all of whom (not only took my phone call) confirmed for me that if a nursery is telling you that they calculate root ball length in overall tree height, that they're probably being not terribly up front with you. In the end, they agreed to send me the two trees that I was short, and credit me with, I guess, a partial refund for the trees that were short, which doesn't help me a lot, since I'm not interested in planting those trees because they're so small. I asked if they could ship out the trees that are the correct height for me, and was told that they would be happy to do so, but only after I sent the short ones back (I sent them photos of the trees with a measuring stick next to them to verify the issues for them), and that they wouldn't send the correct trees out to me until they received the rejected trees, nor would they send me a shipping label. I would have to pay for shipping. I was told that a manager would be reaching out to me, which never happened. My whole planting schedule is screwed up now. I've sent my guys home twice, and they've let me know that I'm back at the back of the list - four weeks out. You got me this one time, but you won't get me again. It's a shame that a local business doesn't care as much about me as I did them. That's how I see it. I'm not asking to be favored, but I am asking to be treated fairly, and this isn't that. FYI, I believe that TNNursery also owns or is owned by Tennessee Wholesale Nursery. Also, pay attention to the positive reviews on this site; they all sound like American names, but the diction is terrible and the English is either from the Indian subcontinent or from China. It seems as though all of the positive reviews have that in common. I'll never do business with them again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one particular about vets ;) The best vets are not insulted by being presented with information from outside sources or questioned regarding treatment because they're confident in their abilities and open-minded enough to know they can't do it all. In fact, a vet who is willing to admit "this is over my head," gets high marks from me. I often see young vets (sorry Meghane) just out of school that get hung up with a superior attitude and it troubles me. I may not be a vet, but I do know an awful lot about breed-specific health issues and more than anyone about my personal dogs. A vet may be book smart, but not have the real-life experience that makes a vet truly knowing. To me, it's all about being a team. It's taken me years (and an out-of-state move LOL) to finally find a great vet who is smart, down-to-earth and very experienced with my breed. But a trusting relationship is a two-way street and it's my responsibility to give her accurate and detailed information as well. I imagine most of the posters here would be considered dream clients for any vet LOL. My friends and I have had too many personal experiences with vets over the years that ended in disaster or something close to it to blindly place our trust in any one vet. But many owners do - they never question anything because they either hold their vet in a god-like status or just don't want to know. Meghane mentioned that a poster's vet must not have explained a treatment well enough, but I think some of that responsbility has to fall on the client. It's a two-way street. It amazes me when owners aren't proactive, like someone mentioned above. I did it once too, years ago with a highly-respected board-certified opthalmologist who made a misdiagnosis and then tried to cover it up instead of being honest. I called him on it and he wasn't used to that. I get second opinions for anything out-of-the-ordinary and especially like dealing with teaching hospitals like Penn Vet.
