Would you buy a microwave online?

I'm so frustrated ! For weeks I have researched various countertop microwaves online, checking the reviews, reading the pros and cons and finally narrowed my search down to 2.

Both the Sharp R 530 EK (2.0 cf, 1200 watts, $180) and the Panasonic NNH 765 BF (1.6 cf, 1,250, $170) had really great reviews.

The problem ~ there is not one store in or around the Louisville area (Home Depot, Lowes, KMart, Walmart, various appliance stores) that carries either of these models ! Even if on a HD or Lowes website, if it's not also in the store, I'm on my own. Reviews of the in-store models prove to be less than desirable.

Both of these models are available online (Amazon, I think) and I wondered how you all felt about ordering an appliance online. Certainly don't like the thought of my purchase being damaged during shipping, but I'm running out of options.

Does any one have feedback about either of these models or the 'online appliance ordering' experience. Thanks.

Amazon is really reliable and great about returns - I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

I have nothing on the models, but I would have no hesitation about ordering a microwave online - I got my current one that way. As Weissman says Amazon is pretty good about returns.

Thanks- all good things for us to know when buying an expensive item. It is now ;Cyber Monday'= and I don't see any prices that are different from the last several weeks...maybe Cyber Monday is just a gimmick? I had a horrid experience with buying from Best Buy- in person....first, the salesperson walked away while I was actually asking questions about the computers- I floowed him through several isles to drag him back. He then said 'I'll be back in 3 minutes'....10 minutes later I found him standing up front talking with coworkers. I again ragged him back to the computer area. I bought the HP Mini. I did complain to the mgr, who gave me a $40 off the computor. 4 days later, when I returned the computer because it didn't work, the mgr only refunded $359, not $399...I guess all the crap I went through/got a sales price renigged because the product didn't work, and it was then ok to have such bad salespeople. I won't ever be buying from Best Buy. Now....where are the Cyber Day Sales????? owbist- I think it was you that said I was already ahead $40 online.....where, please?

We're planning on ordering from this company. All my interactions have been positive so far with good followup on their behalf, both on the phone and via email. I requested a cabinet sample block and it was sent quickly. (It cost about $15). We're going with the Starmark (same name as Fieldstone) line. I visited a local showroom and was very impressed by the quality. We're not using a kitchen designer. I think there's an option on their website for them to help with the design though. Among other things I think they can keep their prices low because you (the customer) write up the cabinet numbers on the order form (which is very time consuming and tedious). But it saves them from having to do it. I'm not too worried about the online process or them sending the wrong cabinets. (Not saying it couldn't happen, I'm just willing to take that chance!) Curious to know other people's thoughts/experiences, too!

What a gorgeous kitty and how lucky she was to have such a nice long life with you. For big rugs I tend to buy at Pottery Barn because they are expensive and I like that I can take them back in case I don't like them. PB rugs are hit or miss in my experience - 50% have been fantastic and worn great and the other 50% had a weird extreme shedding problem and I return them. For smaller rugs that are less expensive, I have ordered a jute rug from Ballard (love and simple for color selection) and woven one from Garnet Hill (also love and it was pretty simple and grey). I have almost ordered a 3x5 just to see color when I was considering a larger rug from an online store - with the intention that I would either stick it somewhere or return it if the shipping was not too much. At least I would be more confident of the color when ordering the larger rug. But I did not end up doing this. I have almost ordered several rugs from FLOR and love their sample program. (Writing this makes me realize that I have almost ordered a lot of rugs.. I must have commitment issues!)

What a beautiful ring! But, some comments... "set with seventy beautiful round brilliant cut sparkling white diamonds weighing 0.40 carat VS natural clarity and F natural color" There is no way that there are 70 diamonds that each weigh 0.40 carat. So, that has to be a TOTAL diamond weight of 0.40 carat. Seventy diamonds weighing a total of less than one-half carat means that they are, essentially, diamond chips. Although the photo makes it appear that the diamonds are each fully cut, there is simply no way that the diamonds in the ring you'd receive would be fully cut diamonds. (And a ring that contains 70 diamonds that are each 0.40 carat in size would be one HUGE ring.) An "F" color diamond is considered colorless, which is good. The very best color rating for a diamond is "D." The clarity of the diamonds are rated as VS - meaning they are Very Slightly flawed. But, the write-up doesn't say if they are VS1 or VS2, so I'm guessing they may be VS2. The clarity ratings go (from best to worst) as follows: Flawless, Internally Flawless, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2, I1, I2, and I3. The write-up doesn't say how many sapphires are in the ring. It just says, "set with beautiful princess natural blue sapphire of 1.00 carat." So, again, that's a total carat weight of 1 carat, but you can see 11 stones (and you know there are more than that), so they would each be very small, too. I think the ring would be a stunning wedding band, but I agree with everyone who has advised you to go to a reputable local jeweler to see about having one custom made for you.

I bought my MW drawer, warming drawer, and built-in fridge online. I saved a bundle. The WD box looked banged round and was ripped open a bit. I refused service and called the eBay seller. He sent a new one out the next day.

We ended up buying a Panasonic MW from Amazon because not a single local store carried the model we wanted. So far it has been fine.

Bought a Panasonic from Amazon a few weeks ago. I knew they have a good return policy if there is a problem but everything arrived just fine.

Last month I ordered a GE Spacemaker microwave online. I did go to my local appliance stores and the big boxes but as the salesman explained to me - they don't make much money on a microwave so most stores don't stock too many. I also ordered through Amazon.

Huge Amazon fan (esp with Prime free shipping) but actually bought our Panasonic MW from Newegg, another fabulous online retailer. They are mainly focused on technology stuff, but carry an interesting assortment of appliances. They also have great customer svc. Like another poster, the first we ordered had a dent (this is a hazard of online purchasing) but they immediately shipped a replacement and sent out a prepaid shipping return label so we just shoved it back into the box and had UPS pick it up. No hassles. And, at least for a little while longer, no sales tax, which for me is an automatic 8% discount. Heck, I prefer buying online versus getting into the car, fighting traffic, and dealing with brain dead big box salespeople.

Home Depot and Lowes both usually offer a "ship to store" option - if it's available on their website, check whether you can buy it online and have it shipped to your nearest store for pick up. The other advantage is that you don't have to pay shipping. I bought my microwave from Best Buy that way.

On the other hand, I've had only good experiences with Amazon shipping.

I'd go with Amazon. You won't even have to get dressed. They're really really easy about returns but those things are packed well enough it shouldn't be a problem.

LOL That is the best part. Shop from home, in jammies, cup of tea/coffee/wine/whatevs, and they leave it at our front door! No traffic, no parking hassle.
