Internet Explorer 8

Prompted to up-grade to Internet Explorer 8 - and did so - now want to return to Internet Explorer 7 XP or maybe 6 - I've had it for a while and don't remember which one I had. . I am inexperienced but perhaps my two problems might be easier to solve then going back to 6 or 7. I can't figure out how to get rid of the security warning which seems to be popping up all the time and my e-mails with pictures (such as recipes, etc.) are not showing up - only indicating a symbol. It's not that I have not tried - I have - but can't seem to solve the problem and don't want to mess things up more than they are now. Should have left things as they were. Thanks. PS-please don't get too technical in your response!

Can you tell us what the Security Warning says, that pops up? That's the first thing to address as that could indicate an infection. Does it say your infected or anything like that? Or is it the actual windows security center telling you that the firewall is off or your Anti Virus is out of date.

What operating System are you using XP, Vista, Windows7?

If you choose to revisit IE7 that would be fine as personal choice is what makes the world go around. However, IE6 is obsolete and vulnerable so please consider avoiding it.

How about Firefox instead?

Six years is doing good. However give us a make and model number, that always helps things along. Have you ever removed the side panel and blown out the dust bunnies. This is the first place to start. If the computer rests on the floor move it up, even a 6 inch block will work wonders as all dust eventually reaches floor level and you disturb it as you walk about. The fans then suck it in. If it is dusty in there buy a bottle of compressed air, remove the computer outdoors (you don't want to upset whoever cleans the house) and blow the dust out. BE SURE to hold a finger on the fan so it does not spin wildly and pay particular attention to the fan on the motherboard. This protects your processor and very likely it is overheating and shutting down to prevent damage. If you live in a VERY dusty environment and it is bad in there then also take a look between the plastic front panel and the metal behind. There is a 3/4 inch space that can get bad. You can also test for heat issues by removing the left side and use a small house fan to blow in on the components. This is not a fix but a temporary measure so you can decide if heat is the issue here. Let us know how that works for you

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. Click here Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application. Change IE 9 to IE 8

Something simple you might consider trying first... Put IE9 in compatibility mode by clicking the little icon beside the address bar(see below). That will make your IE9 appear to be and supposedly render pages as if it were IE7. It may or may not help but it's easy to try. Thank you for your quick replies. The message says: "Do you want to view only web page contents that were delivered securely. Your web wage contain contents that will not be delivered using a secure HTTPS connection which could compromise the security of the entire web wage. Answer yes or no." This pops up twice before I get to my e-mails.

The second part is that all pictures are not displayed - only small colored squares indicate where the pictures should be.

Have Windows XP - guess I went from Internet Explorer 7 to 8 as prompted (without thinking about it) and now want to go back.

Had Firefox a long, long time ago - don't like change!

Use computer only for emails and to google.

Is your Java, Shockwave and Flash Player current?

As far as FF goes, since you should have more than one browser on your system why not try it again? Depending how long ago your contact was there have been improvements through the versions. I admit that originally I wasn't too impressed with FF, now it is all that I use.
