Go to control panel/ uninstall programs, scroll down list right click on ask and uninstall. Then on IE up at tools go to internet options add the home pg. you want and click apply or ok.

Just checked the programs list and Ask.com is not listed anywhere.

Please run adwCleaner, download from bleeping computer. Link provided.

Run the clean option, post the log report here.

Downloaded according to the link and it installed all kinds of crap....7-zip, Norton Security, arcade, PC optimizer, and more.

Red flag/head said something wasn't right, so tried to restore to 9/29 and it wasn't successful. Computer blue screened so I rebooted and it came back on. Now trying to uninstall Norton which doesn't seem to be working. Uggg, did this open a can of worms?

It's been "preparing to uninstall Norton" for over 10 minutes now and doesn't seem to be making ANY progress.

That link I gave you is from bleeping computer, the largest malware forum on the net, I just downloaded adwCleaner from the link I gave you without issue. Not sure what happened to you there.

Did you try changing the Home Page at Tools, Internet Options? And what shows at View, Toolbars? And change the search provider in the search window? (All in Internet Explorer)

I didn't see our old friend "conduit" and others on Zep's list yet I would be surprised if it was not present.

Ran ADWcleaner on a machine yesterday and Ask was still there so I ran Malwarebytes and removed a whole bunch of PUPs.

Interesting, I see from Kudzu's link Java invites us to install Ask. Another reason to never do a 'custom' install anymore but use the manual setting to avoid this stuff.

Debi, if you looked in uninstall programs in control panel as I suggested, not in your programs list, but after list populates in uninstall, then it will be there ask toolbar and any other ask...uninstall and it's gone, no need for all the other confusing things for you to do. However when downloading even updates read, read, read and take check marks out of any addons.
