Recommend a good PDF editor

My job requires I fill out many forms (bid documents). They are usually a PDF form (not editable) which must be printed out out, typed on a typewriter and filled back in. Then I have to scan them for my files. Very time consuming.

Even the PDF's that are true forms always say "you can fill it out but it cannot be saved."

I am looking for a good PDF editor -- I expect to have to pay for it so I won't be shocked at that.

I want to be able to fill out a form on the PDF and then save it as a PDF again.

Ok -- I expect to pay but the trial version I just used wants $79.99! (Wondershare PDF editor).

I was thinking more like $30 or less.

I don't have use for one myself, so can't recommend one.

However, I see a free one recommended right here in the forum that might just be what you're looking for, and save you some money too. :)

Thanks Gail....I use Photofiltre for my editing and it does a great job. Since I don't have an add-on software program I was fortunate to have a friend who had used this little online program and highly recommended it. It is a super little fixer and very simple to use. I can sharpen, soften, enhance the color if necessary....it also will do drop shadow and bordering (framing). Just started experimenting with the bordering myself....very easy to do. Anyone can use this and get good results and not be overwhelmed by the technology....sometimes I find myself simply not knowing how to do lots of things with a new program because some are a bit confusing.I like this program and will continue to use it....and thanks Gail for listing some others I didn't know about....might check out a few of the others, too. ~Kathy~

yes you have to keep Ie it is part of windows and it is always best to have at least 2 browsers on the pc incase one should fail you always have an alternate. I use and love firefox, there are tons of great add-ons for it that make my life so much easier, try searching here on the forum for firefox and you will find a lot of info. Learn Firefox Ultimate List of Firefox 3 Tips and Tricks those should get you started, you will love the ease of use and the tabbed browsing. the add-ons I always suggest are adblock plus to prevent ads on pages and use the subscriptions on Ricks easylist page Adblock Plus 1.1.3 EasyList and EasyPrivacy after you have added adblock plus to your firefox and restarted it then go there and scroll down to the 2 yellow lines on the right it says add to ABP click on that for both to add to your adblock plus. I also like colored tabs ColorfulTabs 4.1 to help you surf safer and avoid dangerous sites WOT - Safe Browsing Tool 20091028 if you spend some time looking through the hundreds of add-ons you will find so many that make life easier.

I set the resolution in Adobe Photoshop Elements. I don't know much about camera settings. Joan, Casey and others can school you on this I'm sure. I do know though if you shoot photos in the RAW settings your pictures will be huge. There is an advantage to this I'm sure but I don't know what. I crop first then enhance my photos. I don't know if there is a benefit to doing it this way it's just how I do it. I use Ritzpik to make up my photos. Here is the resolution setting Ritzpik recommends when enlarging photos: 4x6 = 1228 x 1842 5x7 = 1535 x 2149 8x10 = 2456 x 3070 wallets = 691 x 921 10 x 13 = 3070 x 3991 Don't worry too much about the details at first Nola. The best part of digital photography is that you can afford to shoot lots of pictures while you figure out what works best. The internet can help too. Just google your question and you'll get answers. I don't understand aspect ratio and user defined very well either. I'm glad you asked! We can both learn something today. Have fun! Lori

Holly Kay, there are places that allow you to return product you are not happy with. You might order one from one of them (Blue Mercury is one) and then look for the best price if you want auto-delivery after that. You won't be out anything other than the return postage i you don't like it and the price difference one time as insurance if you do like it. A lot of places will make you a sample if they don't have samples to give you --- but that means a store you can go into. I reccently saw a Blue Mercury when I was travelling and picked up two samples while I was there. Sephora and some places that sell Philosophy will do that, but it doesn't hurt to ask for a sample anywhere and see if they have one or can make you one.

Can either of you tell me the difference between a word document and a pdf document. I googled it and it just talked about the formats, the form in which it is saved. what I want to know is what is the difference in using word versus pdf documents.

A word document, or any word processor file, is meant to be easily editable. The problem is that it can also display a bit differently depending of what machine you view it on.

A PDF(Portable Document Format) on the other hand uses means to assure that the document displays exactly the same from machine to machine, hence it is more "Portable". But that portability comes at a cost, you lose the ability to easily edit the file.

Does that make sense or am I being overly simplistic?

Yes it does and thank you. I just thought that word documents would be a more universal document as far as reading it goes.

Adobe Acrobat is the standard for editing PDFs, but you did say, "Recommend a GOOD PDF editor".

For the reasons chuggerguy mentioned, no such beast exists. For your use, however, it will at least allow you to put an editable text box in empty spaces left for writing. It's pretty awkward, though.
