An opinion please

I am thinking of buying a new computer and it will have Windows 7 Premium. I now have Vista. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with both and if there are major differences in the two. I do know from looking at it in the store using wallpaper is a lot more clicks than with Vista if the clerk knew what he was doing. I don't really need a new one, but I have a nephew who has had a rough 2 years and I think giving him my old one would give him something to occupy his time. And I have to admit I am looking forward exploring the new technology. The model I am looking at is an HP Pavilion Elite HPE 000series. I am not sure I got all the numbers on the model, doesn't look right.

Raven, I remember reading that you told someone there are a lot of tutorials for Windows 7. Was that because it is so different or because the user was new to computers. So far I haven't needed a tutorial when I get a new system.

I've used Vista and the release candidate of 7 and didn't notice a huge difference. Don't know how many clicks it takes to change the wallpaper with either O/S. Sorry but it's not something that has a high priority for me.

it was because they were going from xp to windows 7 and in that transition there is quite a bit of difference, from Vista to 7 not near as much difference. The windows 7 forums and tutorials are a great place to go if you are going to be new to windows 7 and have some questions on how to do things.
I doubt you would have much problem if you are fluent with Vista and go to 7.

BUYER BEWARE : Calligaris have beatufiul tables but their service is TERRIBLE! We ordered a Calligaris Airport table in September 2014. It is now March 2016 and we are still waiting for a working table. The problem is that their tables are very sophisticated but their packaging and instruction manuals leave a lot to be desired. We opted for full professional assembly service by the supplier chosen courier company but they were unable to assemble the table such that it operated correctly. It is unclear if the table was faulty or if mistakes were made in assembly either way the way we have been treated by Calligaris is frankly disgusting. I am very angry with these guys because they have had all our money and now could not care less about sorting the problem out. The original problem was that the table didn't open correctly and now after their courier attempted to install a new frame they actually broke the original frame but the new one was faulty. Thanks to Calligaris we have now had 2 christmas' with no dining table. After a further 3 months I am still awaiting an ETA for the replacement frame, which is now over 18 months since we paid them !!!! - it is so bad that I feel ashamed that I was so stupid to give 1600 euro in advance for this table. I am now trying to fight back by letting the world know how bad Calligaris can be once they have had your money. Never been so badly treated as a consumer.

I like the way they look hanging straight as in the last picture. However, if possible, I would shorten the rod a little. There's a little more rod beyond curtain than I like to see. You've done a great job keeping up with our suggestions and getting back with pictures! I think there is a rule of thumb for that but I don't know what it is, probably about 3".

OK, this ties in nicely with my "Comparing Blue Salvias" thread, so I wanted to revive it and re-read it. Now, it's 8 years later, and many health problems, plus the ever-worsening summer climate in Italy, have slowed my progress considerably. But now, here I am, stuck at home by the need to recover from hip replacement ,and so I've been passing the time in part by planning my new foray into perennials. Hopefully, this time I'll have better luck. First of all, I have installed a DIY drip system in 2 areas of the garden. Secondly, I'm ordering perennials from an on-line nursery this time, rather than getting them from local stores -and I'm recieving them now, so I can grow them on in pots for a couple of months before putting them out in the garden in the fall,which is THE time to plant stuff here (fall, and winter,at least for trees and shrubs -roses included). I have ordered: 1) Nepeta Six Hills Giant 2) 3 salvia Caradonna 3) 3 ajuga Black Scallop 4) phlox sub. Mac Daniel's Cushion 5) 3 phlox sub, Purple Beauty 6) 2 salvia Sensation Deep Blue 7) gentian scabra Luis Blue My selection was partly conditioned by availability,as well as financial concerns (that is why I only got one of some of them). I also checked out the Jelitto perennial sed site,selecting plants that are not offered as seeds,and I tried to get stuff that will more or less bloom with the roses, though that is a big incognito. On the nursery's site, they said the salvias should start in May,though the tags say June, but clearly only time will tell for that. I also have a few columbines, iris and saponarias ordered previously,plus a lithodora and 2 Veronica Georgia Blue. I'm hoping to put most of these plants in the floribunda beds which are ob drip. Maybe I'll get lucky this time?

London staging, unfortunatly that little table can’t be moved, it holds a zillion compone for our tv and sound system. When the av people came to wire everything they were supposed to build a little shelf to hold everything but where unable to because of the window ledge. That’s the smallest table I could find to hold everything- my husb originally had a black glass what I call “dorm room style” huge shelf. There are also speakers (surround sound speakers are everywhere- it’s my husbands thing) on the wall behind the couch. Because of them, it makes putting that art on that wall impossible. This probably isn’t the best picture but I actually really like the art where it is, it adds a pop of color to a room that really needs it.

As with any upgrade in O/S there will be changes. Things will be moved, things will be eliminated, and things will be renamed. That's called progress.

Vista has always been a fine O/S. It's problem was it came directly after XP the highest ever used O/S, and the O/S used by the most first-timers. It was geared towards security.

W7 has 80% the same code of Vista and is geared to performance. I think you will enjoy W7, and this comes from a guy who came into the Vista world directly from Win98 (sigh) all the while kicking and screaming.

If you don't mind spending the $ and want to help your nephew, go for it. Just keep in mind that Win7 isn't all that different from Vista, and Win8 is probably less then 2 years away.

Thank you all for your opinions. I like Vista just fine and didn't expect a huge difference, just wanted some confirmation I guess. I was a little concerned about the desktop wallpaper problems and that is a priority for me. As I said before I want to give my nephew a computer and I may as well buy a new one and give him the older one. Talking to HP taught me a couple of things that I don't particularly like but that's life.

Dave, all the bad hype about Vista helps us adjust to it. Its not near as bad as the hype.
