Error message: MSVCR80.dll was not found.

Error Message:

The application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.

I googled and there are free downloads but it sounds complicated:

Before you download msvcr80.dll:

Installing / uninstalling software and modifying system components can leave your registry fragmented with obsolete, corrupted or harmful files. When I see anything pertaining to Registry I back away.

Reading on:

It is a zip file and the instructions for that are more than I want to handle.

Is there a simpler way to correct the problem?

I can get to any site, but at some I get the message, others not.

first thing to do is run a malwarebytes full scan to see if it could be infection related which can sometimes happen, be sure to update malwarebytes prior to running the full scan.

It means there was a java script error on the page on the page you were trying to access. Not uncommon at all. There's nothing "wrong" with your computer and I wouldn't worry about it. I tried to post this message with java and script as one word. GW didn't like that.

In firefox if you click tools at the top then add/ons you will see a list of add/ons installed one of those apparently is causing a problem if your not using any add/ons then uninstall them you will see the uninstall option there. I just want to make sure your not running fiefox in safe mode all the time.

Got the dreaded "No Power Cell 2" message (yes, it says "2" as well, vice NO Power Cell". Had Pinch a Penny check my under warranty T-CELL-15 - said it passed. Looked at several forums and found this one. Checked my fuses, appear ok - not broken/blown. Wish that was the case however. Notice Amazon sells a PCB board for 350 or so. Before ordering and doing this myself, I noticed a link for navyvet about the circular "fuse" for lack on a better term, specifically the Digi key pn# 570-1062-ND. Will need to take my board off to see if I can find burn marks, then try my hand at soldering (or call a friend). Anyone successful with the soldering, then have issues later on? Don't want to spend money on a new Circuit Board if I can prevent it, but don't really want to repeat the soldering work constantly. Any feedback is appreciated. I'm a newbie at the forum, so if the question has been asked, shoot me the link. Also, anyone else have issues going to www.nopowercell.com? sees down for me. Thank you for your time in advance fellow forum members and DIY repair techs.

Just goes to show that the bigger the organization is the worse the customer care. I am very angry that the real problem was not addressed when I was talking with AT&T. I tried to find an email address to voice my opinion and there isn't one to be found at AT&T's website and the maze you have to go through on the phone is ridiculous. If I hadn't thought of Googling the problem by including the search term "Yahoo" I would still be in the dark about it. And not a word has been issued on the news about the problem and there had to be millions affected by it.

I had same error yesterday on a computer I was remoted into. I forget the program install it occurred on ..... I uninstalled/reinstalled updated versions of several programs on a xpsp2 computer.

anyhow.. either an update to .net framework at microsoft... or maybe simply running her Internet Explorer for the first time ever was the fix. (her browser of choice, firefox 3.0 was one of the things I had uninstalled)

Can't say for sure one of those is your fix.. but, I might try updating .NET .

Mikie, thanks for the suggestion, but I googled .NET and see that it involves building applications, etc.

Hoping for more suggestions.

Sorry to be pushy about this by bringing it back up, but I need more help to solve my problem.

I don't understand what Mikie is telling me. I am not into web development or application building.

I would appreciate more help with this.

If you have a program which uses microsoft.net on your computer you also need microsoft.net. I think it will be listed in add/remove programs in your control panel. Check there to see if you have it and if so update it.

Bob414, evidently I have such a program, although I have no idea which one it is.

In Add/Remove I have:

Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1

Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Security update (KB979906)

Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Security update (KB241647)

There are no dates to indicate which was the latest update.

On each is the usual Change/Remove.

What is my next step?

1.Press your Windows key (the key with a Windows icon next to your keyboard's "Alt" key) and "R" simultaneously. This brings up the "Run" window.

2.Type "cmd" in the textbox and click "OK."

3.Type the following command in your command prompt: regsvr32 /u msvcr80.dll. After this finishes, type "regsvr32 msvcr80.dll." Restart your computer when you finish.

Thanks, Zep, I copied and printed off your instructions.

I think I will wait now until I get the message again before I try the fix. I haven't gotten that message for a while and don't remember now what it was that brought it up. Just curious now to know what caused it.

Didn't have to wait long. I got an update message from Thunderbird and when I did the update, I got the message.

Then I followed your instructions and did that. Guess it worked.

If it didn't I'll be back again.
