I've no sound...what's happened???

I thought I'd turned it off. I do this sometimes when I receive photos with 'noisy'(IMHO) music attached to the photos.

But when I go to the sound icon, it pops up that No Audio Output device installed. I'm using a Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop with Vista.

I'm also once again getting the NSIS error message in a pop-up. I've checked Event Viewer and don't see anything there that makes much sense to this 'computer challenged' senior.

Any help will be appreciated. TIA.

First right click your speaker Icon and open Volume control
and make sure your sound is not muted. Located on your lower right.
If you don't have a speaker Icon go to the Control Panel and check your sound
Windows XP
See if your sound has been stopped in Services Under
Windows Audio.
Start - Control Panel - Open Administrative Tools - Open Component Services - Click Services (Local) and Scrowl down the list to Windows Audio to see if it says - Started. If stopped
Left click Windows Audio and click restart. -
Or
Right click Windows Audio - left click Properties - Left click Start
If the above doesn't work, go to control panel and open System Icon -
Hardware Tab - Device Manager - Click the + Plus sign for Sounds.......... -
Right click Realtek AC 97 (Or whatever Sound you have) - Left click - Update Driver.
To update you will need the CD that came with your computer
Or go on the Internet to download the drivers for your sound.
Find what sound your using. All Programs - Accessories -
System Tools - System Information.

Click here at the top center.
You will have to scrowl down a good bit for the sound part.

Friday night was our last market, the rain held off, it wasn't really cold (til the end), but not many people there (vendors or customers). This despite last week's market being canceled due to rain. I had *beautiful* crisp green bell peppers, estimated could hold about 3/4C - 1C of stuffing so picked them, only sold TWO (and 6 bananas, a few jals and cherry bombs, and those were to a single guy who buys $2 worth from me every week)! One lady told me the bells were small, she was used to grocery store peppers. I told her I thought these were good-sized, refrained from saying that the grocery store peppers weren't (for the most part) organically grown, were probably waxed, and a week or more old, not 5 hrs old (I picked in the AM)! But the same lady thought $6 for a jar of jam was too much, I did tell her then that I could sell wild blackberries for $5/pint in season, so had to charge $1 extra for the jar, sugar, etc. to make the jam. Sorry for the rambling - had to vent. I guess I have lots of peppers to freeze, pickle, and make jam/jelly from (I did manage to sell 3 jars of pepper jelly and 1 fruit jam - bad night, I usually sell more). Plus tomatoes - another lady thought $3 for a 14oz (average) Pink Brandywine was too much, no one else even asked. Guy next to me was selling smaller heirloom-looking (squatty) ones, don't know how he did but still had lots left when he packed up. But I *have* been asked to supply the preserves for the Historical Society's Tavern night. Maybe make some pickled peppers? I'll start a new thread.

Now THAT'S a RIOT!! LMAO Years ago, I taught someone a lesson about walking across in front of moving traffic. I've mentioned a few times in here that when I was a kid I was a "gearhead", and into building cars and racing. My "daily driver" was an older trans am that was actually built for the track, with a 455 cubic inch motor, complete with a dual quad set up sticking thru the hood where the stereotypical trans am hood scoop usually sat, and believe me when I tell you, it wasn't just for show. My father's office was in New Haven, right on the edge of one of the worst parts of town. (Paige-- for your benefit-- it was the old tile place at the corner of the Boulevard and Congress ave.). Now, this "Congress Avenue" was the kind of area that if you stopped at a street corner, someone would always come up to the car looking to sell you drugs. However, on the far side of it is Yale New Haven Hospital, where this one particular day, my wife was after having our first son. Anyway, here I come, tooling down the road, and these two guys come walking out in front of me, so I slowed down, and finally had to stop right there in the middle of the road, because they thought it would be great fun to have a conversation right there. I sat there for about 30 seconds, until it looked like some other folks sitting on some steps on the sidewalk were getting real interested in my car. At that point, I figured if they wanted the car, they were gonna have to run real fast, and I just dropped it in low and matted the gas. You want to see these two guys in the middle of the street jump just as fast and as far as they could! Just imagine standing on a drag strip about 30 feet in front of the cars when the green light comes down, and that's about the view these two guys had, complete with the noise and the wheel stand. I'd be willing to bet it was a long time before they walked out in front of anyone else. (and before anyone passes judgement for being that reckless, when it comes down to it either being me or them, I'll guarantee you-- it'll be them, every time)

Thanks for the commiseration. :) It's not so much how many are coming but how many meals they're coming for. :) There are a dozen or so more people I'd like to invite but I just can't hack it this year, so probably not more than three dozen. Another dozen of the kids -- beg pardon...younger grown-ups -- are away, which should make it easier, but, then, one could put them to work... HAH to the vegetarian, Trailrunner!! What do you think is taking up all that room??? The brisket is nothing to the roots, though an ice chest is a good idea. I bet I could fit most of them in one, and they only have to be cool. They and the citrus from loved one's garden are what's hogging the turkey drawer. :) Cloud Swift, the ice chest defrost is an interesting idea, but I'd worry too much about the bird leaking. The drawer is stainless. Country Smile, There's no good picture to be had through the beet greens!!! I really do have enough room with the studio fridge. Plus, once some of the veg get cooked they'll take up less room. And the berries are for first night, which means there will be room for the leftovers. I just hope there's room to chill the brisket Sunday night. I have to see if my small roaster will fit in the meat drawer... All of you who are wondering if you have enough room, if you're planning on entertaining for Passover, you don't!

Hi cg. I'm quite red-faced here! Told my son what was happening, he asked if I'd done a re-boot...it worked.

I should have thought of that before I even asked for help. Thx so much for your time/patience in writing the detailed instructions.

I am still getting the NSIS error message regarding an installer being corrupted. I guess I'll just keep watch & see if anything else goes wrong. Have a great week.

Thx for the link. I have read this info again. I had read it when this problem first surfaced a few weeks back. The problem is I don't know what program is causing the install problem. I've brought up the original thread. Then it seemed the problem was SpybotS&D, which I uninstalled. The pop-ups disappeared, only to reappear later in the week when I again went on-line. Many personal events are keeping me off the 'puter right now, but especially because of current problems, I really need my 'puter to remain accessible.

I've no sound...what's happened???
