Jim, you made me cry...

18 years ago

..and you touched my heart. I got my package from jimtex today and opened it while I was making dinner tonight. I can barely write this.

Jim wrote me 4 notes to guide me through the items he loves -

{{gwi:1462593}}

He said the first item is "Something Old" -- you may know about our Jim's love for everything Frankoma. He sent this rare vintage Frankoma pottery cup in dove gray:

{{gwi:1462594}}

The next item was "Something New" -- Jim found a new sage green Frankoma mixing bowl:

{{gwi:1462595}}

Both the cup and bowl colors remind me of Korean celadon pottery - so lovely.

{{gwi:1462596}}

The last item he called "Something Special Just For You" -- Jim had Jeanne's best friends make this apron for me out of some of Jeanne's cloth. She liked to quilt. I was quite farklempt by this point. I had to turn on some freaky disco and have a swig of my cosmo so I wouldn't weep into the cassoulet I was cooking...

{{gwi:1462597}}

I had DH take a picture of me wearing the apron - I cropped my face out because I looked sad. (Do my arms look any bigger from all the ping pong? No? Just checking...)

Here are all the beautiful and loved items together. Jim I don't know what I did to deserve this - but please know that I (sniff) am touched beyond beyond...

    How utterly beautiful, and thoughtful, Jim. DH would be jealous - he loves Frankoma, and collects it. Those are very special items. The apron is so cute, and it even matches your drink, Gina. Way to go, Jim!

    Same here, Jeri. There were frequently emails in both directions concerning anomalies in the garden; dumb things we'd each done or experienced; anything we thought the other might find interesting and, as you've received, I'd send him photos of new seedlings I found particularly interesting. When he became ill, he asked not to be forgotten, to be kept "in the loop". It wasn't difficult as the loop seemed to originate with him. Talk about a "hole"... I do love what HMF has done with the Donations Tabs. Kim

    Really, REALLY late for a belated Happy Birthday. Been so busy lately raising Monarch Butterflies that everything else is falling on the wayside. It's fitting that the first came out of it's crysalis on Wednesday - your day! Sorry to hear about your leg, but I see everyone is making the best of it on another post by 'designing' the cast. Getting a good laugh from all the creativity. Oh, DH is telling me we have another crysalis wiggling. Got to go... Be well!

    The pottery is so beautiful. It has a very serene feeling to it. Perfect in your new kitchen, Gina.

    I am misty over the apron (which BTW - looks so good on you I might mistakenly wear it out somewhere - lol).

    Jim, what a truly special box. I am sure your Jeanne would be proud.

  • 18 years ago

    I'm weepy here too! Jim was a swap partner of mine too and I know first hand that he packs one heck of box! But this one is unbelievably touching and perfect for you! Jim you did fabulous and I agree that putting some of Jean into this gift made it unforgettable. Gina, I know you understand the emotion behind all these lovely items and you'll treasure them. Enjoy!

    Jim, Very very touching. Jeanne always played a special role in the swaps. I'm glad that you are keeping that going.

    Gina, that is one very nice package Jim selected for you. I love that color Frankoma and the apron is so special.

  • 18 years ago

    Well, that takes the cake for the most personal, special, beloved swap package.
    Using your wife's fabric...that was so special and thoughtful. What a beautiful thing to do. (I have tears running out of my "bad" eye that I can't control. Even when my "will" tells me not to cry, that darn "bad" eye doesn't listen)
    Jim, I can't think of anything more beloved and appreciated by anybody here. That swap gift came from the heart.
    Besides being generous and loving of you, I am envious cause I love aprons!
    Gina, you got the most special swap package of all.
    Nice job, Jim.

    Jim, We are fortunate to have you amongst us.

    WOW, what a wonderful thoughtful gifts! I'm teary eyed too now.

  • 18 years ago

    Jim, you put together a lovely swap gift for Gina. I love the pottery - yes, very serene looking. As a quilter/sewer/apron maker myself, the apron from your wife's stash is just a perfect way to honor her and give a useful, handmade gift to Gina.

    Enjoy, Gina!

    I like the shape and size of the mug, as well as the bowl. My mother used to use ceramic bowls, and I still like them. They are very good for making cookie dough!

    I love aprons too, and so that's a special touch.

    Great package!!

    I'm also happy, but a bit misty, to see Jeanne's participation in the swaps, like always.

    I love the bowl and the shape of the mug is very nice, as well as that gray color.

    That's a very special and completely unique swap package. Jim, you did well indeed....

    Well, I've been to this thread 3 - maybe 4 times now. Each time, I close it when I start crying...then I come back and read it again...and close it when I start crying...

    Finally, I am here, without reading the thread - so I can post.

    I knew James' package would be special - because they always are - but in the back of my mind, I did remember how much of a hand Jeanne always had in that...

    What a wonderful, beautiful way to include her, now. I'm sure she is very pleased. :-)

    Love the pottery too - but that apron is priceless.

    Today I went downstairs into the kitchen where I had left out the gifts - the pottery looks so nice with my kitchen colors.

    I also realized that the apron really is a great fit - store-bought aprons are too big for me - the ties go around me twice and they are usually heavy too. Jim's attention to detail is another bonus.

    I sent you an email through the forum Jim - if you don't get it, email me here (mine works) and I'll reply.

    How sweet....the cup and bowl are beautiful, and What a cute apron...
    You did good Jim....lucky you Gina!!!

    What special, special swap items Jim ( & Jeanne) sent-- I love the muted beauty of the Frankoma-- looks like it was made just for your countertops ,Gina.

    And that apron will only make cooking more fun !

  • 18 years ago

    Gina, I'm sorry I didn't post sooner. I went to bed early last night and just got home from work. I'm very pleased that you like the things I sent. This one was special for me and I'll point Jeanne's friends to this thread so they can see how much their contribution was appreciated.

    James, I'm at a loss for words here bud. That is one heck of a special swap box for sure. I know that Jeanne always enjoyed the swaps and included some of her homemade items in past swap boxes. Too cool that it still continues with the help of friends.

    Gina, you look great, arms and all. The apron is a perfect fit and I would have needed a double cosmo after opening this swap box.....some great thing to use and remember forever for sure.
