Do you have a drawing of your layout? I can't think of any way you can have a 48" vanity in a bathroom that size that you will like the functionality of the bathroom. A 36" vanity would be more appropriate. Look at some of the Duravit cabinets for ideas. Can you do a pocket door? This will save quite a bit of space in the bathroom.

Back to your question about the wall hung toilet. I have an idea for a layout that may not require it. For wall hungs, Duravit Happy D is well liked with the Geberit wall hung toilet insert. I really like the cool round toilet tank actuators! I may be installing this setup in one of my bathrooms which is about the same size as yours. Terry love's website have a few people who have some real life experience with this setup. The Toto Neorest 500 series is also about 26.25" deep.

Keep in mind that a wall hung toilet will require a carrier and space for the cistern inside the wall for the toilet to hang from. This usually requires a minimum of 2x6 studs behind the toilet. The spec may vary from brand to brand.

Geberit is one of the biggest names in wall-hung toilets. They offer a number of different models, so one may suit your needs. The link below will take you to the carrier specification.

Look like I can't use the Geberit as my wall is 2 x 4 build, and there is no room to use 2 x 6. I'm not sure if having the tank inside the wall will be a maintenance issue. Probably a really dumb question... but I assume you would have to tear the wall apart if you ever needed to repair/replace the tank and associated parts?

I'm somewhat hooked on a cabinet vanity. To me, pedestal sinks are not very useful... small bathrooms need all the storage space they need and pedestals don't offer any. But thanks for the links. I do like the design...

I do have a primitive drawing but don't know how to upload to this forum. I have a CAD drawing but I've made so many changes to the original (which was approved by the city for permitting) that it would be misleading. The reason why I think a shallow 48" would be nice is that I can run it the entire length of the bathroom up to the shower partition... which I would like to tile up to about 40" or a few inches above where the vanity would end, and then glass up to 8" shy of the ceiling. From the shower partition, the shower is about 32" x 66". So it works well in the 7' x 5' 6" square box. Also, going with a long 48" vanity allows me to go really shallow. A very shallow sink/countertop is not as bad if it can be stretched out across a wider area. Total countertop/sink space is what I think people are most concerned with. I might try to find a really shallow sink/vanity... around 14" perhaps. Do you guys think 14" is too shallow for a sink vanity? This would allow me to go with a more standard toilet (round bowl) that hopefully offers dual/flush options. This is an urban zero-energy/smart home with water catchment so I need to go with the most water-sensitive models. I'm hoping to find a model that has a tall tank that will be a little tighter to the wall, now that I know an in-wall tank (e.g. Geberit) won't work. If I can find a nice 26" toilet and a 15" vanity, that will leave 25" of clearance between the vanity and the toilet... and I think this is reasonable.

Oh, and the Neorest is very nice... but I'd like to keep my toilet expenditure in the $500-$1,000/each range. I actually need 4 shallow toilets for the project so I have to be a bit more sensitive to the price.

I also forgot to mention I found an elongated bowl toilet(which I find considerably more desirable than a round bowl toilet) made by Toto that is 27 1/4" deep. I know this is deeper than I wanted but it's not bad for an elongated toilet. The model is the Aquia and it's a dual flush toilet... and only $400. It's not as modern as I would want but it's not bad looking.

I'm guessing there is no way I would find a shallower elongated toilet than this?

I cannot help you with the dimensions dilemma. It seems that all elongated bowls are about 28" deep. I just wanted to tell you that $400 for Aquia is definitely too much IMO, at least for the online purchase. I've just bought 3 Toto toilets at www.buyplumbing.net (best price for Toto toilets I found online). The Aquia costs about $230 + very reasonable shipping there.

There are several Aquia toilets. Make sure you are getting the latest model which has better MAP scores than the first two models.

Hi, try a wall mounted sink in the shower on the shower head wall. Going even further place the toilet also in the shower, on the opposite wall, with the bowl facing the shower head wall. Allows a larger shower and you have the cleanest bathroom in town....leslie.

Missal or Missel makes a wall hung carrier that goes on a diagonal. This resolves all the Code minimums about space in front and on the sides.

Eljer makes a diagonal toilet too.

The piece of furniture they call a vanity is unnecessary. First, for Code, plan a bathroom without it and deal with the sink rim as the biggest obstacle to getting permits and being code compliant. Then, secondly, insert a small shelf tablet under the sink later, onto which you can put three 8" tall baskets to hold stuff and keep it out of sight. This gives you more volume, more space, more sense of space, and a bigger floor too.

When you post a layout you will get more concrete ideas, that work. Until then it's a stab in the dark.

I think you should consider ripping down the sheetrock on the built wall in order to put in a Geberit wall carrier. You can fit it into 5.25" inches of depth so your new wall will be less than 1.5" from its current position.
