While I'm here, again I seek advice on V.44 Compresstion

I think I brought up V.44 Compression (ITU-T Recommendation/Standard) under the subject of dial-up modem. That subject may have turned of most off the "in-crowd, savy-crowd" who surely use some form of broadband access, so I'll leave the "dial-up" part off of the subject.

I see a few new dial up modems advertise V.44 Compression and PCM Upstream as a means of increasing the throughput on Dial-up. Any knowledge hereabouts? I did a "chat" with Worldnet TechSupport and after making my question simpler: Does Worldnet support V.44" they said "No". So if I use them for dial-up the answer to my question in mute...I ask anyway given my lack of trust of the "chat"...if V.44 looks promising I'll go onto Worldnet "news groups"..lot better techsup there.
