WANTED: My package came!!! Yeah !!!

I'm so excited my package from Stacy came today.

Well the other two thirds....she had two (2) lbs. of lovely cheese curds delivered last week from a shop near her called the Cuba Cheese Company.

I was sworn to secrecy not to tell anyone that part of the package came....I did let her know that I had gotten the cheese, in fact I made reference to it in a post "What's for dinner" I had made Mac and Cheese using part of the cheese curds. They are delicious...for snacking, putting in scrambled eggs; DH loved them that way; in the mac and cheese. I'm sure I'll find other ways to use them..maybe a quiche in the new Red "Fiesta Pie Plate" she sent!!! I love Red and my kitchen is in reds, black and white...can't wait to bake something in the gorgeous pie plate!!! Love, love it!!!

Next she sent a Cutco Santoku knife, that's over the top...I love the knife..

Oh yes, Linda, definitely post a picture. I think you should make a cheese quiche in the pie pan and cut it with the knife. LOL

That's a great swap box, I don't know anyone who doesn't need a good knife especially.

None of the ones listed are here yet but I'm prepping for them! But they all ship pretty promptly. So I'll sow the onions and arugula, everything from ST except amaranthus, and the monkshod the minute I get my dirty hands on it! Even the lupin (an annual kind) I'll WS that, too. Direct sowed some last year all flopped and died, it's an annual kind, and just curious about it. Petunias (blue wave) I sowed just one pkt prob too early. The cosmos, all other petunias, amaranthus (both kinds) will wait until the end of March or early May. Even though I've read the faq more than once and multiple posts, can't remember every detail how people were successful with what so just started sowing madly. Will know better next next time. The delphiniums I will winter sow two kinds this year I have from ST, but that special one, one seed per cup and might wait timing wise like I did successfully for my delphs last spring. Will sow all the pansies and violas ASAP except maybe hold 2 pkts back for next year, bought a lot of what I hope are blue because if all the different kinds I sowed grow and reseed, they will cross like you said. I want to keep the blue ones true if they turn out that way for me, don't want them to cross. Have already sowed lots of violas and have some Challon? pansies I don't particularly like (bonus), will sow when I get to it. The runner beans my inclination are to direct sow when frost past as I successfully grew some Scarlet ones years ago, didn't fuss too much about water even, just about every seed germinated, and they go pretty deep IIRC. But I thought my grandson might have fun sowing them in some of my cups (later then) and then planting somewhere himself and watch them grow. Saved your instructions, so appreciate the advice, wish I'd asked about some of the others sooner. Now one more teeny weeny question. Just mixed up a big batch of soil and have to burn some more drainage holes which seem to be much better than slits like I have done in the past in the BOTTOM. BUT should I put about 4 slits in the top of those lids to snap on the cups or burn a couple holes instead? I have been burning holes in the tops of most, and they're a good 1/4" diam and may let things get too drenched. You have your cups uncovered in the hoophouse; I have to cover mine, they're white and about the translucency of a milk jug only thinner. Well one more question. Do you plant your love lies bleeding in the soil or container? The seed photo showed a container high enough so they could hang. The other amaranthus looks quite different. A watched container never grows. Maybe that's why . . .I can't help the temptation to peek when it starts warming up, haven't looked at one thing out there yet. Well....I've already found out that my usual supplier of the hybrid larch-itascagreenhouse.com-has already sold out of this tree for spring 2013! Dern it. Somebody else, in fact two other parties, have placed large orders. They tell me the soonest they'd have more in stock would be fall of 2013. So now I've got to decide what direction to take..... The time length of the grant is 18 months, so maybe I can plant the other two this spring and the larch either in the fall-anybody have any comments on doing that?-or the following spring. That's not really a big problem except for the fact that I will be renting the tree planter from the county up there, and this could push my rental needs into a higher category. I know the forester is going to urge me to simply plant tamarack instead, and in a way, I know he's right. They already occur in my woods and I've always loved tamarack, but I'm weird that way-I really want to go with the hybrid for the bulk of this planting. Straight European larch would also be an option, but gosh darn it, I want the hybrid. If I wasn't so 'puter illiterate, I'd have shown you all many pictures of my trees by now. I've got hybrid larch, in the ground for three growing seasons, that must be 12 feet tall. All larch grow fast but these hybrids take that to a new level. They really like the sandy loam soil too, as would any larch. I'll talk to forester dude and we'll come up with something. Thanks for all the kind responses. Oh, and Alex, I asked the forester one time when we first discussed this plan about just what you asked. He said best bet would be to plant in single-species blocks. But some intermixing could still occur around the edges. I get that-let each species compete primarily only with others of its own kind. It does make sense. These three all grow fast up there but the larch outgrows even red pine which is saying something. An interesting side note: Tree-planting machines were first developed and used in Oconto County, Wisconsin-the county that my tree farm is located in. Following the big clearcuts of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, there was a lot of land that turned out ill suited to agriculture. Those areas were all planted with pine, primarily red and white. Those are big trees now, at least those that haven't already been harvested! +oM

Hmmm, took the chocolate, did he??? LOL!! Well, I hope he appreciated that the chocolate has citrus infused olive oil in it. The olive oil, chocolate, and napkins came from the Temecula Olive Oil Company, just south of here. They have their own orchards in the Temecula Wine Country and make their own products. I bought a bottle of that garlic infused olive oil for myself and my 3 sisters for our BD's. (I also bought the blood orange infused olive oil and the vanilla balsamic vinegar for me too--their products are YUM :-))) Hope you enjoy them, julie! Barb

I have been were you are with my grandmother, my mom and my dad. It is not easy. What I learned from all that is to remember to breathe in and out! If you pray talk Gods ear off and invite him to go with you everywhere. Take time off by yourself even if it is only half an hour. Ask for help when you need it. One of the best things I got from caring for my family is when my father said, "I'm glad it's you taking care of me kid-o." You can do this! Keep it simple. One thing at a time. Ohhhh I love the pie plate. I have fiestaware as my "good" dishes, I should say one of my sets. but don't have the pie plates or ramekins that someone got earlier in the swap. I do have some caseroles and covered dishes, but they are all in storage, as I use my good old pyrex.

I would love some fresh cheese curds. The University of Nebraska at Lincoln has their own dairy and they make ice cream and cheese to sell at their shop on campus. We were down a week ago and I should have stopped and picked up some cheese curds.

Should we say this swap package was whey over the top? No, maybe we shouldn't!

What a beautiful pie plate, and the knife looks like the kind I love to use, I just didn't know that was what a Santoku knife was. Cool! I've never had cheese curds, but I know now that I want to try some whenever I get a chance. Mmmm, good.

Nice job! I looove squeaky cheese curds, and the pie plate looks like -- well -- a Fiesta.

I haven't had fresh cheese curds a long time--hummm when I took a tour of the Tillamook Cheese factory in Oregon.

That red is my fav and who doesn't need a good knife.

I'd give my right arm (almost) to try cheese curds. We just don't have them down here. Love the plate and knife too. I've heard a lot of good things about cutco. Ditto what Diana said, don't ginsu one of your fingers getting used to it. Stacy you did well.

What a great swap package. I love the advanced gift of fresh cheese curds. Linda, don't save them. Cheese curds are best when eaten fresh. In fact when they are fresh they actually squeak against your teeth when you bite them.

Beautiful red pie plate. And a Cutco Knife. How special is that. You will really enjoy using it.

We stopped by the cheese factory in DH's hometown and they'd shut down the retail outlet, darnit. I was looking forward to snacking on fresh curds. Nice treat Stacy. That's a pretty piece of Fiesta, too. I don't remember seeing a santoku the last time I looked at Cutco.....nice.

Yay, Fiesta! I have a few of the Fiesta pie plates (what a surprise) and I love to use them because it seems like nothing sticks to them. The red (Scarlet) is gorgeous.
But you had me at cheese curds. Forget sweet tooth, I've got a fat tooth & cheese is my weakness. There is nothing, nothing like fresh cheese curds. There would have been nothing but the empty package left by the time the second box arrived.
I've never used a santoku. That knife looks like a beauty.

Katie, i think the santoku is a fairly new addition to Cutco's lineup. I was so pleased to be able to get one!

These are truly some of MY favorite things. I love my fiestaware because it's practically indestructible - lol - and cheese curds - mmmmmmm. I will make a special trip on Thursdays sometimes just to get them brand spankin fresh!

And since I live so near Cutco, I have lots and lots of their products (their garden ratchet pruners are awesome!)and love them all. They are a very well respected company around here.

Just be careful Linda! When I got my first, I cut a portion of my thumbnail off before I even realized it. (I sooooo wanted to just try out your knife before I sent it, but I controlled myself...:-)

I'm glad you were happy with your package...

We don't have cheese curds in my part of the South either. But, hey! if it's cheese, I'm all over it.

Cheese curds are one of my all time favorites! I used to get them at the Tillamook Cheese Factory when I lived in Oregon. My family calls them squeeky cheese...they kind of squeek when you eat them :)
I have a small Cutco knife that has stayed really sharp Stacy..you know.

We don't have cheese curds in my part of the country but I do try to have them when we travel. Love love them!

That is a great knife! I love my Santoku but be very careful. They are sharp!!

Oh, my that red pie plate is calling out for a berry pie right now!

After the curds, I was expecting some whey - I thought it was a Miss Muffet theme.

Love Cutco knives. I have a couple of them that my sister gave me one year, and I ended up using them a lot more than I had expected. You should get lots of use out of it!

The quiche looks lovely, especially in the red pan. Too bad it's off limits for me, or else I would love it. Nice to see that you made quick use of your curds.
