Where to put the toilet paper?!
Comments (2)I would consider the space and the use of the bathroom as to what I need. If there is no shower or bath, than a towel circle or hook works if the space is tight for a hand towel to be hung on (ie a powder room where handwashing is about all that's doen). If space is an issue in a shower or tub room, consider a couple of towel hooks verses a bar. We have a combo of both, (one towel bar over the tub since it's high up...32" deep thing) and for our daily use we have one hook with a double rung (two towels can hang) right outside of the shower and then we have a train wreck (rack...it's a family joke) with towel hooks on it that is hung high over the toilet. As to toilet paper...if space is really tight there are great (and period) holders that recess half way into the wall and then what i have in my powder room...the ultimate on tight storage, is a toilet paper roll that's on a stand which I have sitting in front of the toilet, next to the sink, (which is close enough to the toilet to reach easily). I have a pocket door in one side so I can't use that, and the other is an outside wall, and the cabinet opens on the wall side so TP was an issue. The single roll holder is also period (isn't your house?) in feel so it would work well if you don't want to poke holes in the wall or cabinet....See Moresmall space; where to put toilet paper holder/what kind?
Comments (7)Familiar question! My preference is to have it on a side wall next to the toilet, if there is a wall to put it on. I like it best in line with or just forward of my knee and about waist high when sitting. I find that makes it easiest to reach for the TP without learning or twisting (something I cannot do because of herniated disks). HOWEVER, we just redid the guest bathroom and I must have been asleep at the wheel when the architect specified the vanity size. The toilet is on a long wall between the vanity and the tub. There is about 21" between the vanity and the toilet and a little more to the tub. My options for the TP holder are (1) on the back wall behind the toilet, (2) on the side of the vanity and (3) opposite the toilet - about 3 foot span - on the wall where the towel bars are going. None of these are good options for someone who can't twist and reach and especially not for a child who, I think, might fall off the toilet just trying to reach! Had I been alert, I would have made the vanity longer than the 36" it is and mounted the holder on the side of the vanity, closer to the toilet. This is still not ideal because the vanity is only 21" deep and the toilet comes out beyond that so there would still be twisting to reach. I am reluctant to use a free-standing holder because the ones I have seen in peoples' homes look cheap and often seem to rust. Any ideas?...See MoreToto Toilet - Where to put the Tissue Box?
Comments (4)The designers of this toilet don't wish for us to upset the flowing lines they've created by sitting our stuff up there. To defeat them go to HomeDepot and get "earthquake clay" which is intended to be used to create a removable yet somewhat sticky and pliable clay like material to hold our vases and fine china in place during earthquakes. Roll this into little balls, larger in front, smaller in back and mush your tissue box into this. If done carefully you can't see the clay under the box unless you sit on the floor. It also holds the box in place nicely when you yank on a stubborn tissue such as when a box is newly opened....See MoreDual toilet paper holders at the toilet
Comments (8)vineyard: We're on about the same timetable as you, depending on--well, everything. The garage was full before we started this venture, although I do reserve enough space for 1 car in it. I have recently resigned myself to being in moving-mode from now till whenever it is. My great room currently has a sink base cabinet DH made. Not boxed up, so I have wrapped Christmas presents stored inside. I can only access them through the cabinet doors, however. Because there's an ottoman, upside down on top of the cabinet. And for now, on top of the ottoman are wood pieces for the new coffee table DH is working on. The wood has to acclimate to indoor humidity levels or something. Are we having fun yet?...See Moremaryland_irisman
