Where to put the toilet paper?!

I need to buy the "bathroom accessories" for both bathrooms. And I cant decide for one where to hang the toilet paper holder. Its a very narrow bathroom. Would you screw it into the side of the cabinet? I would hate to mess up the nice wood cabinets, but everywhere else seems like it would be too in the way.

Also, what all so you need for bathroom accessories? Mirror, toilet paper holder, towel bar? Anything else?

I would consider the space and the use of the bathroom as to what I need. If there is no shower or bath, than a towel circle or hook works if the space is tight for a hand towel to be hung on (ie a powder room where handwashing is about all that's doen).

If space is an issue in a shower or tub room, consider a couple of towel hooks verses a bar. We have a combo of both, (one towel bar over the tub since it's high up...32" deep thing) and for our daily use we have one hook with a double rung (two towels can hang) right outside of the shower and then we have a train wreck (rack...it's a family joke) with towel hooks on it that is hung high over the toilet.

As to toilet paper...if space is really tight there are great (and period) holders that recess half way into the wall and then what i have in my powder room...the ultimate on tight storage, is a toilet paper roll that's on a stand which I have sitting in front of the toilet, next to the sink, (which is close enough to the toilet to reach easily). I have a pocket door in one side so I can't use that, and the other is an outside wall, and the cabinet opens on the wall side so TP was an issue. The single roll holder is also period (isn't your house?) in feel so it would work well if you don't want to poke holes in the wall or cabinet.

there is a website called tinyliving.com. Everything is for small spaces. you will find a solution there. all sorts of interesting items reasonably priced.

Another helpful tip I've discovered that makes using the tubes easier is to save the plastic "clamshell" containers that strawberries come in these days. The sides are high enough to help keep a full complement of tubes upright & the bottoms already have plenty of drainage holes. If you cut your tubes short, you can even close the top to make a "mini-greenhouse". I am also finding these plastic clamshell containers invaluable as "mini greenhouses" for seed starting even without using the tubes. Just fill with your soil mix, plant, & close the lid. Not only do these containers work great, but they are durable enough to be used several seasons. I have quite a collection now in all different sizes.

For the powder room on the main level and the guest bathroom upstairs, there are vanities w/doors, so they're in there, within reach (I'd hope that that's where a guest would look!). For my master bath, I also have a vanity, so I installed a plastic paper towel holder on the inside of the door closest to the toilet. It will hold 2 extra rolls, and they are out of sight but easily reachable, because I can open the door while sitting. I have seen the tall clear glass vases filled with TP rolls, but that's too fragile for me. A similar look -- go to a pottery place (garden center) or HomeGoods-type place and try to find a tall clay/glazed pottery vase to put them in. That way they're close by the toilet but you don't see "TP" as soon as you enter the room. ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- To AJSMama: How about a recessed drawer that tips OUT? Like the little drawers in front of the kitchen sink that tip out and hold sponges? Or kind of like an old-fashioned hamper/laundry chute.

The shower is probably technically a little narrow and may not meet code requirements in all areas. I don't particularly understand the code requirements of some areas because you can put a shower over a 28" bathtub and it will pass but in some locales a shower base has to be 32" to pass. That shower is about 30" which technically meets the 30" hoop requirement (but probably not with the door closed. Mine in this sized bathroom is 30" at the Outside of the curb which is probably a no-go technically but I used a curtain to create a little elbow room in the shower and at the toilet.
