Trick Or Treat, maybe?

When I booted up this morning, I noticed the bottom 3 rows across the top of the screen have a black background. On the bottom 2, I the icons are in color, so no problem there, but the next top row, where 'tools' is, is blacked out and although they still drop down and are useable, I can't see them. How did this happen and how can I get things back to normal?

I'm running Windows XP with IE8 that was installed and set up while my computer was in the shop for routine cleanup a couple of weeks ago and have had no problem until now. I appreciate any help! Ida

Reboot the computer again. IE8 has been problematic with xp on some computers.

Thank Judo. I am honored. Although I do not grow SUPER hots but I have been using Capsaicin in my daily diet for decades. But I suffice to lower dosage. Right now my limit is Habaneros. What a lovely idea. I'm sure they will enjoy this, and will love that you were so thoughtful to do so. Bless you for it. I usually write songs and poems at the school where I work, and the kids and other teachers get a kick out of them...So, I hope this works for you. Also, you can substitute...the words - Mortals for (Everyone)..and the word Older...for (Bolder)...if you like that better. Once Again, I think what you are doing is wonderful. Slinkey... When I walked my kids around, I would put out a bowl and a cute little sign saying to take 1 or 2, or whatever. They did! Except one year, we were on our way out when I heard some boys take the whole bowl. I flew out the door, they stopped short of the end of the walkway and sheepishly put it back. I was especially surprised because we KNOW them! My sons quit going out after 8th grade, but this year DS wanted to dress up as a ghoul and have a "haunted porch", I think he missed the TorT! Sadly, it was not only cold and windy, but there was a young-kids party nearby and he looked too scary, so I had him hold off till the older kids came 'round. But by then it was misty, too, so the goblins stayed in. I I don't mind the older kids, as long as they dress up with at least a bit of effort or creativity and SAY Trick or Treat! We had two dancers about 14yrs, very sparkly. When I admired them, they said they had a dance too. It was cute, definitely earned them extra treats!

Swedish fish are sort of candy like a gummy bear, except are red and in the shape of a fish and the flavor is hard to describe, kinda like cherry. The last time I handed out candy when we were still in our home, word got around and kids kept coming saying they heard I was giving out Swedish fish. I was surprised at how popular they were.

Lets see what shop did for clean up. Follow instructions below if you have time. It's just a scan to see whats on the computer.

Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Â Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
Â By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Â Click on Install.
Â It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Â Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Â Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Â Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

Just a few items otherwise good!

Close all browser windows including this one. Double click the hijackthis Icon on the desktop. Do a System Scan only. Place a check mark in the following 04 entries:

these programs may be taking up system resources.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [REGSHAVE] C:\Program Files\REGSHAVE\REGSHAVE.EXE /AUTORUN

(Description: For fuji cameras - only needed when you are going to uninstall the software.)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Reader Speed Launcher] \"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\Reader_sl.exe\"

(Description: Adobe reader startup - unnecessarily uses system resources.)

Click FIX Checked.

Close Hijackthis.

Reboot the computer.

That's all. The process simply stops these programs from starting and running it does not delete anything.
