Trick Or Treat, maybe?

When I booted up this morning, I noticed the bottom 3 rows across the top of the screen have a black background. On the bottom 2, I the icons are in color, so no problem there, but the next top row, where 'tools' is, is blacked out and although they still drop down and are useable, I can't see them. How did this happen and how can I get things back to normal?

I'm running Windows XP with IE8 that was installed and set up while my computer was in the shop for routine cleanup a couple of weeks ago and have had no problem until now. I appreciate any help! Ida

Reboot the computer again. IE8 has been problematic with xp on some computers.

Thanks zep! A reboot worked and the black strip is gone. I hope this is not going to be an ongoing problem. Ida

I don't think there is any real rule, seems to me that most children start to lose interest about the 'tween' years...around 12 to 13. (I can remember going with my girlfriends in 7th grade, but it was more to be out and be silly than really collecting candy) We have somewhere around 125 children at the door unless it's really stormy - then it's fewer. Some are so cute, I love the really little ones who don't know what Halloween is about, they just know they're having fun and being treated to stuff their Moms don't give them. And I try to keep a supply of M&M's for those, just can't bring myself to hand a candy bar to a 2 yr old. And each year there is the group or two of high school aged boys (sometimes girls but usually boys)...then DH grumbles that they are taller than him and need a shave, and he usually gives them a bad time which they don't take seriously. DH LOVES Halloween and really enjoys the kids...making up for a 'deprived' childhood I think, being one of 10 and raised on a farm, there weren't neighbors close enough for trick or treating.

Thank Judo. I am honored. Although I do not grow SUPER hots but I have been using Capsaicin in my daily diet for decades. But I suffice to lower dosage. Right now my limit is Habaneros. In fact I have planted habs many times in the past. Another Hot one: Pequin. Next year I will grow Thai, Korean, Habanero, Manzano, pequin, serrano ..... Thanks for offering seeds. Now that I've answered a broad, sure anyone!, I see we're talking about the more general sense of what is going on. . The reality of this year is, I won't be handing anything out. Where I lived before I bought here? Three houses ago, it was fun and our baby was little. Two houses ago, almost no one came to our end of the block, but still fine fun! One house ago, it was our neighborhood block party. Everyone was out and everyone was kind and fun! New house: in 2015, we were at Contest of Champions and left a bowl with a note. In 2016, we were home and the trick or treaters were so rude, we closed up shop and went inside. It was the bused in crowd, not the nice neighbors I have. This year, I have a fence which will remain closed off with a bowl and a note to please take one. I'll be inside and not risk encountering the bused in group again. Oy were they rude as all get out. They were reaching in and grabbing stuff out of the bowl. Or just stood and glared at you. Not all of them, but some of them.

Lets see what shop did for clean up. Follow instructions below if you have time. It's just a scan to see whats on the computer.

Click Here to download HJTInstall.exe
Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Â Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
Â By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Â Click on Install.
Â It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Â Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Â Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Â Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.
DO NOT use the AnalyzeThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System.

Just a few items otherwise good!

Close all browser windows including this one. Double click the hijackthis Icon on the desktop. Do a System Scan only. Place a check mark in the following 04 entries:

these programs may be taking up system resources.

(Description: For fuji cameras - only needed when you are going to uninstall the software.)

(Description: Adobe reader startup - unnecessarily uses system resources.)

Click FIX Checked.

Close Hijackthis.

Reboot the computer.

That's all. The process simply stops these programs from starting and running it does not delete anything.
