WANTED: When it rains it pours...

Unfortunately swap time unexpectedly coincided with both a time of extreme personal and family stress that I don't care to disclose here and a group of unforgiving rush projects. As a freelance creative, it's either feast or famine. Many apologies to all my cooking forum friends and especially to David, who sent me a wonderful package and to Ann, whose patience with me has apparently been stretched to the breaking point.

David has gifted me with a lovely crepe/omelette pan. I had one a long time ago but it was worn out by continued kid use. That small size was too inviting. The ladels are flat bottomed batter ladels, a whole new concept in ladels for me! Love 'em! I am looking forward diving into the cookbook. We often have big gooey omelettes on the weekends now we can add crepes to the menu as well.

The butter bell is absolutely perfect! Plain, white, elegant. Alice was completely baffled by this item. She had never heard of nor seen such an item. Were they popular in the 70s and fell out of common use?

Nuts! David sent the biggest, fattest, most gorgeous and delicious pecans I have ever seen! These babies are almost 1-1/2 inches long. And he shelled them himself. Does it get better? The sunflower seeds are hard to stay out of but I am trying to control myself, a little... The seasoned pretzels will not last long now that my son knows they exist. I did get a taste. These are yummy!

Also in the box is an avalanche of chocolates. Be still my heart. Ever since Daniel and his heathen friends found my stash of Harry and David truffles and ate them ALL, I have had to find better hiding places for the "good stuff." I have found that the vegetable drawer in the frig serves me well! No one ever looks under the Napa cabbage.

I am also looking forward to learning more about David's beautiful corner of the world from the periodicals he included.

Many, many thanks. I emailed David but have not had a chance to post here and include a photo until this morning. I expect this shall be my last swap.

Eileen how lucky of you to have gotten David as your swap partner. I have had that privledge, his parcels are always so generous,creative and heartfelt!

I love the crepe theme David, the ladle is ingenious! Oh and those pecans...I'd suggest David's Heart of Dixie Pecan Pie....delicious!

Great job David, a package that I would have been delighted to receive!

Eileen, what a wonderful, useful package! What's the theory on a flat-bottomed ladle? Is it better for holding a standardized amount of batter? Cool looking, whatever it does!

Clarion - it is actually a different ceiling that had the plumbing problem! this one is a drywall replacement on the first floor... yes confusing to have TWO different ceiling issues I know UG! :) I think the reasons you mentioned above are exactly why we have to replace so much. His plan is to cut out the drain at some point and install a PVC splice, because the drain lines were installed nearly agains the flor, and very close to the joists we have to go back kinda far to give him the room to do that. We only really have access from below (the downstairs ceiling) as the bathroom floor has wood and then tile added, we would have to bust up perfectly good tile. I can already hear the plumbing from that drain and am not really offended. The room that can hear it is the downstairs bathroom... columbusguy1 - I feel pretty confident he actually needs to go back that far to do the work. He suggested we remove the ceiling ourselves and kept stopping by to check on it what would be needed before actually scheduling the work. We also brought up the idea of, if we are replacing these pipes should we move them, because long term the placement of them is not what we want, and he said that is going to be a lot more money... We will see on the noise, I will take noise over leaking though :)

Oh what an awful turn of bad luck. I'm so sorry that you have the crisis to deal with, and wish you all the best in clean up and repairs. You're just great to be so concerned about your DW, and I admire you for it. At the same time, I hope you will take equally good care of yourself, having experienced the same trauma in your home. It may cost you some out of pocket dollars (beyond insurance), but I hope you'll both consider it money wisely invested to regain your quality of life.

Moonie, the good appendix news is that once the infection and gunk are gone, the appendectomy should be a simple, day laproscopic procedure. In fact, for DS the surgeon said the appendix perforations had closed and he could opt out! But give the risk factors for him, he opted to have it taken out, and after the procedure the surgeon said that given some factors she saw, he made the right decision. My cousin lives in Columbia and I understand that, while they had no flooding this morning, churches and businesses were closed anyway. I wish I could send you some of our high-pressure system, but I'll send virtual blue skies for your spirit.

I was having trouble getting my dad's furnace up and running this weekend, so on Monday "the guy" came out. The system is, shall we say, idiosyncratic, and K is The Guy for it. Anyway, he got it heating up, went to check on something else, and all of a sudden steam and brown water come out from the boiler. Yep, rusted out. But at least K was there! He knows the valves and switches way better than I do! And I wouldn't have thought to turn off the gas to the boiler. Thank goodness it happened while K was there. There's no one in the house right now, and I go over only every few days. Now of course we have to figure out what to do, and oh by the way there are asbestos-wrapped pipes. Sheesh. First step, since it will take a few weeks to get any kind of heat, is to winterize and I mean REALLY winterize, draining pipes etc. What about the well pump? Another phone call to make I guess.

What an elegant looking crepe pan David--& that ladle is just perfect with it.

And I guess it's really perfect match right now for you Eileen--few things are less time consuming to make ( and be as comforting) than a crepe---I have visions of a lovely dessert--you've provided all the makings David--beautiful fresh pecans , yummy chocolate--even a container to hold the butter !

Eileen, you hadn't posted in a while and I was wondering if everything was OK.

That is one great swap box, I love the pecans and the butter bell, I just got one of my own from Carol (dishesdone). People are always asking what it is.

That is one nice crepe pan too, I hope you can get some quick suppers from it.

MMMM. I have never tried to make crepes, afraid I'd end up with scrambled eggs (sorta). This swap box inspires me to rethink and maybe, just maybe take the plunge! Oh, and those pecans are humongous! Great package, David!

Superb package. Let us know how that ladle works for you. I'd seen them somewhere and thought that would be really nice. I think they can stand on their own.

Once again, someone doesn't seem to know the meaning of "mini". But who cares, right??!! 'Specially when you get such terrific goodies.

You are more than welcome Eileen!! I had a great time researching and shopping for you. I hope we see more of you here when things settled down for you. I hope you get to enjoy a good gooey omelet this weekend!

Those ladles are pretty cool! It's a set of three different sizes. One for crepes, one for pancakes, and one for waffles. They are suppose to give you the perfect measure of batter for each. The flat bottom allows you to scrape it on the edge of the bowl to prevent dripping batter.

David, that is a wonderful package and those are the biggest pecans!

David, that is a wonderful swap box. I love the little recipe book. I can make up all sorts of omelets no problem but my crepe pan doesn't get to do much. For some reason I can never think of what to put in them.
