AVG thinks my Firewall is a Trojan

Recently AVG thinks my firewall is a Trojan every time my computer starts up. This is the Trojan information it puts up on the notice: TrojanhorseSmall.AOQ Detected on open. Then this is the file it says it is in:

C:\ProgramFiles\ashampoo\ashampooFirewallPro\Firewall.exe

The firewall is a legitimate program, I have bought it and the license is current. Why is AVG doing this? I have scanned the firewall program and it is clean.

AVG has done that recently to several legit programs what I would do to be absolutely sure something has not got in there somehow is submit that file to jotti, just go to jotti, where it has the browse button click(way up at the top) that and go to that file it is directing you to and upload it, jotti will scan it using many many AV products and give you a list of the results.

yes Kathsgrdn always update malwarebytes or any program prior to running the full scan there usually will be new definitions to pick up and running in safe mode is a great idea many times the trojan or malware has processes running that prevent it from being cleaned and in safe mode much less is running. If you need more help just come on back and ask. Also a good idea is to reboot after those scans, many times in fact malwarebytes will say something about clean after reboot.

no no you do not clean anything with hijack this you must go to the landzdown forum that was listed and start a thread there in the hijackthis area then post your results from hijack this there in your post, also tell them everything you have done they will come and help you with step by step directions, the hijackthis produces a log file that is what you need to post there for them to review so they know what steps to take, the team there is one of the best on the net so be assured they will help you but it takes time it is not a one deal cure all it is a step by step proceedure. Just tell Corrine that I and Zep sent you there and you can also link back to this thread here so they can see this info. Can't you right click the AVG icon and Quit Control Center. That should turn off AVG. I don't see how ACDsee could get a trojan, since it is only a photo manager, but I guess anything is possible, they can come in through a backdoor without a program being opened. I would go to the Virus Vault in AVG and delete or remove the trojan, then it will be gone. Then see if ACDsee still works.

I would make a guess that the virus modified or installed a registry key which is calling for the virus during boot and kicks out the error message when it can't start the virus program. You could spend a lot of time trying to find the right key to delete it, or you could try a registry cleaner. If you want to try the latter, I'd suggest running the cleanup and registry functions in CCleaner. Just be sure to backup before cleaning the registry. Here is a link that might be useful: CCleaner
