WANTED: Mustangs Takes Me to Camp Fais Do Do!

Hey, let the good times roll, I got the coolest box from Mustangs! I am such a Lousiana addict (going back for my fifth time in May) that Cathy sent me "Who's Your Mama, Are You Catholic and Can You Make a Roux?" by Marcelle Bienvenu. As much as I don't really like Emeril, he always talks about Marcelle. I'm so excited... it's actually the third Lousiana cookbook I've gotten in a week. My collection grows! But I digress since Mustangs says she got this in February at the Acadian Village at the Camp Fais Do Do gathering.

She also sent me a Paul Prudhomme seasoning that smells heavenly. Can't wait to use it. I did make a visit to K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen a couple of visits ago and it was astonishingly good.

Frying was the cooking method. You know, there are just some things you like to fry but can't stand the mess... well this pan is supposed to eliminate the mess. I'm going to try making tostones with this. Then maybe some donuts. To go along with, she gave me "Fry it, You'll Like it" cookbook. The author's last name is Friedman. I think that's so funny.

Last but not least, she gave me a soapstone salt cellar, which I've been coveting since I first saw it. It's perfect! She also sent a tin of Himalania salt. I'm so happy. I love salt!

Cathy, my dear, this is one terrific package. I love it all but I especially loved being at Camp Fais Do Do with y'all! Thank you so very much!

(And did you know I sent to Cathy in the last swap?)

And by the way, my bad... I actually got this lovely package Friday but we were on our way to dinner. Then Vicki left town and I had to have a room painted and assemble furniture (myself) and sort of broke my P&S so I had to delay posting until today. Actually, I'm exhausted!

not sure what a p&s is, but hope you fix it soon.

great package. i'm going to have to look into that fry pan, from what i can see, it looks pretty interesting.

The only thing I've ever taken was a tiny bottle of shampoo since I'd used part of it. It wouldn't occur to me to help myself to anything else. Since it's not a food item I figure the maids would just leave the unused soaps and lotions there for the next guest. I even remake the beds before we leave, not to look unused but to look like we took care of their property. I always get mad when I see hotel towels on the beach. Several times I've seen them just abandoned. How do motels and hotels stay in business with all the theft and damages done by rude guests? Do they charge things to the guest's credit card?

Do you take your dog to a dog park to play?

To a dog park--no. The reasons listed in this post are all valid, and all boil down to one, really--irresponsible owners. But that's not the only reason I would avoid our local dog park. There's a bit of a unique side issue with the local one. Now, that being said, when DD used to raise Seeing eye puppies, we regularly had get-togethers with the other dogs--at our monthly meetings, at parties, fairs, parades, camping. Once a summer, we'd rent a fenced park (with a lake) for a picnic and we'd let the dogs run free and enjoy themselves. The big difference, though, was that these dogs were all up on all their shots, they were all well-socialized and knew each other and the humans, and we had 2 very well-educated leaders of the club who were able to handle any problems that arose. It was a lot of fun--for the puppies and their raisers.

I do take the siren warnings seriously. Around here, they do not blow the sirens unless a funnel, or a very threatening cloud with a vortex in it, has been spotted. I've got place in the basement reserved for such events. It's in the SW corner under a heavy workbench. I've examined aftermath photos and came to believe that one needs protection from falling and cave-in debris. For example, I've seen a house that was shoved off its foundation and then dropped part way into the basement. it came to rest on stuff that was in the basement. One of my concerns is rupturing a gas line and getting trapped if a gas fire results. I don't worry about what happens to me if I am killed outright. Fortunately, I have had to take shelter only once in the last 10 years. We watch the channel carrying storm news and they will show the storm center and it path. We've had threats, but the worst was a hail storm about 4 years ago that did a lot of damage to autos and roofs. It banged up my roof vents.

Diana, the Catholic cookbook is a big hit down here in South Louisiana. I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Assemble furniture and paint a room...all in one weekend? D@mn girl, your good!

Well, I'm dying to know what your P&S is also and I hope it doesn't hurt!

Love the title of that Louisiana book! Let us know what you "fry up" and if the pan works for you!

LOL!!!! Too funny and this would be one book I would be sure to pick up!

The no spatter fry pan sure looks like it would work. Being from MI I do like my fried food and miss it.

P&S... I'm afraid I can't make this sexier than it is. A point and shoot camera. Just so darn easy to use for certain things. I pulled out the card from my computer in haste and lost all the files on it. Oops.

Diana, I'm also impressed with your weekend makeover!

Karen made me buy the cookbook. I read it on the plane home (trying to be a gentle reader) and thought it had interesting stories in addition to the recipes. It was a good read.

Diana you'll have to let us know about the splatter control thing. I've been doing a lot of that lately and yes, I'd like to control the mess! That salt cellar is so perfect for you, too. Time for a trip to Surfas, eh?

Darn it, I also wondered about p&s, LOL. I had to chuckle at the books' titles, and Friedman on the frying book also made me smile.

I really like the salt cellar, that's very neat. Enjoy your tostones and the donuts!

So years ago, when I went to LA, that was the one cookbook I couldn't resist. LOL It is a fun read, and has good fattening recipes. Love the barbecued shrimp. I'm dying to know about that pan also. What a great idea if it works. Hurry and fry! Lovely salt cellar as well.

Ann did that reverse swap thing to me a few years back with Sharon. I see Cathy stepped up to the challenge with a great swap box for you Diana. I know you love LA from past pics...Jon and the mannequin are still my faves. Great box Cathy!

Anybody who Cathy gets for a swap partner is lucky indeed. That is a great package, and I love the salt cellar. It reminds me of an awesome, gorgeous picture that you took, Diana, of piles of salt. I LOVED that pic. Nice job, Cathy!

How wonderful that you got to go to camp!
Those books sound great, and the fryer -- that could be dangerous! (Mess is one of the few reasons I don't fry MORE stuff!) and that salt cellar looks like a salt altar -- I'd put it out on the table and have people worship a little before they season their food!

Sherry, Alison, That's a great idea...about the salt alter. I bought the salt cellar for myself last year then ordered it for Diana because of her picture and because she likes contemporay stuff. I will look for a salt picture and put it above my "salt alter".

I LOVE that cook book title! I'd love to call a bookstore and ask for it, he he!

We definitely need a report on that pan. Cleaning the range after frying is a PITA (as opposed to P&S--which could stand for Pain and Suffering, which I would be in without a Point & Shoot).
