Please Show Me Your Favorite Shampoo and Soap Niche
Comments (40)Can anyone give me an idea of what the cost per square foot might be for installing tumbled marble tile? My husband did the demolition and then our tiler became obsolete for six weeks. He would not return our phone calls etc. So, we are starting over to find a tiler, and our first estimate was $1500. over the one we had accepted. We have about 300 square feet to be installed. I just want to make sure that we are not being gouged. We live on Cape Cod (where everything is more expensive). Thanks for any help. Janet...See MoreShow me your soap/shampoo niches!
Comments (18)Here is a picture of a Stainless Shelf we built a Shampoo niche for. Notice in my picture and Bills above that the niches fit right into a tile layout. Exactly. Another one; This is not an accident and it shows forethought and helps to make a bathroom Sparkle. Your tile guy? IS he just a tile guy? Can he adjust the framing for you? Should you settle on out of square or no pitch? Their is lost to learn to this process. Bill and I make it look easy. But we both run crews. We have all the toys. All the training. Most don't. Ask this of your tile guy before he prices the job. Bill might do this just because he is picky and know how easy it is. Most are lazy. The extra 20 minutes is down time. Understand the scope of work and you must sign off on the tile lay out. Don't have a chat on Tuesday with your GC and then complain on Sunday it is not perfect. This needs to be decided in the beginning. Do you think Bill didn't know the lay out before he changed the studs? No chance. Learn more about every step. Dig deeper. Who's advice are you following? Comments (33)Since I have multiple kind of shampoos/conditioners that I like to rotate rather than use straight through, coupled with small bathrooms, I do not store them in the shower. I get whatever I want to wash my hair with, take it in, then take it out & put away when I'm done. I dislike a shower that has a bunch of bottles of product. Also I only shampoo my hair once or twice a week. My DH always uses the same shampoo, and he shampoos his hair daily, so his stays in the shower. We have a wall niche and a small tiled-in corner shelf. If we didn't have those, I'd sequester the bottles in a plastic bin or basket that could drain and keep it in the corner on the floor. for the bathroom that has a shower/tub combo (as opposed to just a shower) i let the kids keep a shampoo, a conditioner, and a soap along the tub edge (this was before we installed a niche). Anything additional sat on the floor in a plastic basket....See MoreMy Shampoo Soap Bar Experience
Comments (99)Chiming in again, since I guess that I started the whole shampoo bar thing here. Before I went on the Camino last year I trialed several bars. I rather liked the Grapefruit bar from Sweetsnthings, but I had also bought a bar made by Tree Hut at a local store. It was their 4 in 1 Mango bar. I really loooooved how it made my hair feel, and it smells yummy, so that's what I took on the Camino with me, and I liked everything about it. It's got more, for want of a better word, "chemically" ingredients, more like a traditional liquid shampoo, but worked better for me than the other bars, especially since I have hard water at home, and wasn't able to do an ACV rinse on the Camino. When I returned home from Spain I went to buy some more, but discovered that it had been discontinued! I managed to find 3 bars on clearance, which I am hoarding for my next Camino walk. (this summer, yay!) But now my search was on to find a replacement. I've been usingthis one from another Etsy vendor, LakeSuperiorSoap, and it leaves my hair soft and silky. The scent is nice, but pretty strong. I have also tried this one from GetLathered on Etsy. I like it too, but not quite as much. Neither shampoo leaves any kind of residue in my hair. After shampooing I use a quick swipe of this conditioner bar through my hair to make it easier to comb, but it hasn't been that hard to comb without it. The conditioner bar has lasted forever....See Moresandy_in_ia
