This morning I was trying to run malwarebytes and had a message on screen 'error 1706" something about installing the cd, this has never happened before, tried to upgrade received the same message.I have xp7.
Thank you for the quick answer, I have uninstalled Malwarebyes will reinstall now. I have xp home, do not recall any messages before when starting or restarting the computer, the only thing I have done recent is the upgrade from MS 958644.
That should not be a problem, but anyway check your add/remove programs to see if that XP security up date (958644)is located there in my xp machine those updates are down at the bottom of the add/remove programs list.
Ok I'm checking with some others as to why that is not showing there and we can get back to that, my concern here is the 1706 error.
Yes go ahead an install malwarebytes and run the program it would be great if you post the log the program creates.
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
zep you gave the link to rogue remover but the directions for malwarebytes antimalware, which may be confusing, I generally give the mbam link with the mbam directions. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware that is the link for malwarebytes anti malware. both are excellent but I bet what she had on her pc was mbam.
I would bet since it is showing up on windows update history as being installed it probably is, I have noticed on some of the updates they don't always show up in add remove, I sometimes have to go look in windows explorer in my windows files to see them. but definitely in add remove area you do want to have that show updates box checkmarked at the top.
Zep - thanks for the mention of ticking Show Updates at the top of the add/remove list. I didn't know that was an option and I have often doubted whether I've actually gotten new updates installed or not (other than checking update history on the MS site).
Well installed Malwarebytes or tired to it seemed to be going ok then this came on the screen
DigitImg
The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.
Insert the DigitImg disk and click OK
I tried to cancel out got the 1706 error canceled out and then it installed and I was able to run a scan it found one problem now I cannot find the log to tell you what it was something like adware.
I do not know what is going on but you appear to have a windows installer problem, this problem usually occurs during the installation of the printer, please take a look at the link provided but don't do anything yet.
Do you have the disk that came with the printer? When did you install the printer?
What appears to be going on is when you reboot the (windows installer) is trying to install the printer or something and it's asking for the disk -- I have no clue why.
If you have the disk What we could do is to reinstall the printer software from disk.
Or we could run the (windows installer clean up utility) when you answer the questions have better Idea as what to do.
I have a disk for the printer. It was installed July 2005 by a tech I had come to the house he set the computer/canon scanner/hp printer. This printer is way more than I need and very slow, have never used the picture printing part.
OK you have the Disk - are you comfortable reinstalling the printer software? Because this is all I can think of to do. I think it is strange that this just started to occur but things happen like that.
If you decide to reinstall printer software from disk, you should remove the printer software via the add/remove programs list, then turn computer off and disconnect the printer cable from the back of the computer, turn computer back on then insert your printer disk and follow the prompts presented.
Your other option is to live with the errors and get help if you need it.
