Question about new malwarebytes and noscripts

I have the paid version of malwarebytes and since updating to new version my no scripts in firefox doesn't show up. Is the new version preventing no scripts from operating? My no scripts still update but no icon anywhere. Anyone else have this problem?

I have new version of free malwarebytes and still have the icon button in the upper left corner. By any chance are you in FULL SCREEN (F11 key to toggle on/off) ?

I, too, have the latest paid version of Malwarebytes, goldensmom, but I don't think they're responsible for the loss of "no scripts" add-on in the latest version [29.0.1] of FF.

I noticed it was gone, too. But...I think that FF's increased security in their latest version has "bundled" the prevention of scripts into this newest browser thereby eliminating the need for the "no scripts" add-on. Whenever there's an upgrade in FF versions they always check to see if your particular add-on[s] are compatible with their latest version. My "no scripts" add-on seemed to have disappeared then. Perhaps that's the case with the disappearance on your system.

Have you tried downloading it from the actual Malwarebytes site? If not, here's the site. https://www.malwarebytes.org/downloads/ Try downloading it without removing the first corrupted version and see if that works. There was a replacement for the first program update [issued on 4-1-14] and according to my own download files, it was issued on 4-6-14. The actual build was 4-3-14. The latest version is 2.0.1.1004 If you have no luck with my advice...I strongly suggest that you contact Malwarebytes directly through their website. I can tell you from personal experience that they are wonderful people to do business with and always eager to assist. I should add that I have the paid version of Malwarebytes but that shouldn't make any difference with their help. Many moons ago I started out with the free version and went on from there. HTH Anne

Ok this is simple now. Just use Google and type edit registry and millions of hits appear. Look through the first few and you will find many tutorials with good graphics showing step by step. You are nervous and rightly so because of all the warnings about messing up a registry. HOWEVER, this is nothing more than making a correction to a spelling error if you look at it that way. First time just go into the registry working down to the needed page. Once there you can walk away and grab a coffee if you feel stress, or you can make the simple correction to the one entry in question. Those of us who help others always need to stress the importance of caution in the registry because of those who are so impetuous. my ex son in law is a good example, he goes into a computer like a bull in a china shop. Luckily I do not have to clean up behind him anymore :) Now I have learned how to put stuff into a flash drive and save my files. Why? You are going to back up the registry as a precaution, nothing more. To save your work, assuming it is stored in My Documents. Insert the thumb drive, cancel the popup right click Start click Explore Now you see Windows Explorer opened Look near the top on the left side and right click on My Documnts click Properties in the pop up Look to see how large the My Documents folder is and if you have enough room on the thumb drive. We'll assume you have room. OK.... Click My Documents to highlight On the right side click the top item to highlight Hold down the Shift key and tap the End key now all the right side is highlighted right click anywhere on the highlighted data click Copy in the pop up Scroll down the left side now to find the thumb drive right click on it in the pop up click Paste and the contents are copied to your thumb drive - or any other drive you designate. Done! Simple huh?

I do not know what is going on but you appear to have a windows installer problem, this problem usually occurs during the installation of the printer, please take a look at the link provided but don't do anything yet. Do you have the disk that came with the printer? When did you install the printer? What appears to be going on is when you reboot the (windows installer) is trying to install the printer or something and it's asking for the disk -- I have no clue why. If you have the disk What we could do is to reinstall the printer software from disk. Hi Katlin It's time you move to a Malware removal forum. Running automated tools like that and hoping something sticks is not the best approach. You need to visit Landzdown forum. Post the required log files and then a determination of the infection is diagnosed, then the right tools will be used. I'm starting to get worried TDSS Killer is no toy, TDSS Killer is a rootkit scanner. Rootkit scanners have to be used with caution as they generate false positives. From your post: Threats detected Locked file Service: swenum medium risk I clicked on Delete . To sum things up: A locked file or service does not necessarily mean a threat. "Object is locked skipped" or "Access Denied" notations in an anti-virus/anti-malware scan are not uncommon. Some files and services are locked by the operating system or running programs during use for protection, so scanners cannot access them. When the scanner finds such an object, it makes a note and then just skips to the next one. That explains why it may show as "skipped", "locked" or "Access Denied" in certain anti-virus or anti-malware log scan reports. These types of detections are normal and not usually malware related so there is seldom a need for concern. File path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\swenum.sys The file swenum is a trustworthy file from Microsoft. The swenum.sys process is part of Microsoft Windows and should not be deleted or prevented from loading each time Windows loads. Doing so could cause errors or Windows to stop working. If you have too many other custom objects on your title bar, maybe the NoScript button got bumped because there was no room for it. Go to VIEW >> TOOLBARS >> CUSTOMIZE and see if it is there. You may be able to DRAG // DROP it back to wherever you want it or delete something you don't really need to make room for it.

Sorry to disappoint, Azinoh...but the add-on is gone. I am never satisfied with just one look so I'd done what you suggested...and more. It's nowhere to be found and after a considerable investigation...of every corner of FF 29.0.1...I think it's safe to conclude that they gobbled it up as I offered above.

One could download another copy of No-Scripts from the net if one felt it an absolutely necessary add-on but considering how security minded FF is these days...I doubt that one would need it.

Just for laughs...open about:config and enter noscript in the search bar. If it is truly not there, then you won't find anything. I find it odd that FF would just blow it away without something else going on.

It's not there. There's no search bar in config with FF 29.0.1 but all the browser info is readily available through the "troubleshooting info" tab. No Script is no longer listed in this current version.

As I stated above...if a FF user wants it back...they can download it again. It can be found as an add-on if one looks for it as a downloadable add-on. But it was not moved with this current version when the update was made available. FF always advises the user that they will check to see if the users add-ons are compatible with the newest version before they download it. Apparently, they...in their infinite wisdom...decided No Script was not necessary with this newest version. Remember...the FF version I'm dealing with is 29.0.1. Not every FF user is working with this particular new version.

I don't think FF just "blew it away". There's simply no need for it with their current built-in security and the app itself can cause problems if it's not used correctly.

I still have no scripts in my downloads and as I said it still updates as it did this morning. I can call it up and all my settings are set with no change so FF didn't get rid of it. It's there somewhere. I didn't notice this change until I updated Malwarebytes. Yes, I am on full screen and checked toolbars. No luck.

I don't know what is different in your FF 29.0.1 versus my FF 29.0.1, but I still have a search bar in about:config and it still shows multiple entries for NoScript and I still have a button for it immediately to the left of the URL bar. My current NoScript is 2.6.8.24 Did a little googling and found this:

I don't know what's different either...but...No Script no longer resides in my FF. I used your about:config search method and it produces nothing more than my previous search through "troubleshooting info". The app is gone. Where to? I have no idea at this present moment but I don't think that Malwarebytes had anything to do with it and I believe that was the OP's fear.

Thank you, Azinoh. I don't click on links but I will certainly have a look via DuckDuck when I return home from an appointment...using your "Superuser" hint. As for what version of No Script that I once had...I, honestly, don't remember right now. Perhaps that's why it's gone. ;-)

However...if I ever find it...you'll be the first to know. It's more of a mystery to me right now than I'm sure it is to you.

As promised, Azinoh...

Read several reviews of/on Superuser. Interesting. Also...in my cyber travels read several interesting "offerings" regarding No Script and Adblock conflicts. I have Adblock Plus and use it when necessary. Perhaps therein lies my lost No Script problem...but I rather doubt it. I, also use WOT but doubt that it interfered with No Script.

Been an informative afternoon. Thanks for the journey. I always appreciate learning more.

The change log for the MWB v2.0.2 is below.

I was bored this morning as I waited for the sun to come up so I could go outside and work. The new version didn't come through the MWB update so I downloaded it from Filehippo, and installed it. No muss, No fuss.
