Sending a Contact List from Yahoo mail

I have a complete list of emails for all my neighbors in my Yahoo Contacts. One of the neighbors would like to have the list. How do I send the list to her without sending an email to all? I have a list of contacts called "Neighbors". How do I send "Neighbors" to just one person? Thanks.

Just curious here. Will the people on your contact list mind if you give out their email address????? I am careful about it giving mine out and I also warn them" I do not want forwards!"

Yes, they are happy to be on the list. It will not go any farther than the immediate neighborhood, unless someone chooses to abuse it. Of course, we can use the BCC option, too.

A recent home burglary on the street has created a need to keep each other informed of neighborhood news and concerns, as well as Block Parties.

I'm not really familiar with Yahoo mail but my guess is that the email address presented to you should be an alternate email you provided sometime in the past, to be used at a time like this. If that address is unfamiliar to you, I would fear that it was entered by a hacker. Maybe not but even if it wasn't, sending recovery info to an unknown address wouldn't do you any good. I wonder if Yahoo Customer Care would help you regain control? That or someone who's been through it before will come by and with a better answer. Exporting you contacts to the tablet would keep the intact on your PC, but I'm not 100% sure about keeping everything synced. I _think_ you would have to make any additions, deletions, or changes on the PC and then export them to the tablet. The easiest solution might just to be a migration to Gmail. That might make even more sense if you anticipate adding an Android phone down the line. You can make Gmail pretty darn secure by enabling Google's security feature which requires not only a password but also a PIN that Google can text or call you with to a preassigned phone number. Along with Gmail comes Google Docs, a modest office suite of applications and the ability to store documents from your desktop. The nice thing about "cloud" applications is there's no need to syncs - everything is available everywhere. The drawback is that you need an Internet connection.

thanks tumblenweed, it appears i can not do what i want. i saw the categories but frankly these are distribution lists ie more than 1 email address bundled into 1 generic name. so if you want to email 12 different people, grouping them into a distrib list makes it easy to send an email to them as you select just 1 recipient vs selecting all 12 individually. it would make no sense to put my commonly contacted email addresses into a distb list as then i'd be sending email to all them. it sure was nice to be able to put people into groups (folders) and then open that folder and select the address i wanted vs looking thru dozens of email addresses. i am surprised that yahoo hasn't figured this out. the only way around this is to put a prefix in front of email names that will then sort them and group them together. what a dopey way to get this but i may do it. thanks, tom

Or maybe you don't access your account as often and just missed the window of downtime. Its problems are way more often this last week than other times. It's acting up right now. Try the link I have farther up the thread, and you'll see how large a chunk of time it's been misbehaving today. It's a moving graph so it won't show you Monday, for instance. not right this moment for me, but it was earlier and it absolutely was on Monday. Or maybe I only hit it when it wasn't working. Either way, I think you're dismissing things you shouldn't dismiss. Yahoo is having trouble right now. It'd be nice if it worked every time one opened their mail. Which is what one would expect from a mail provider. I've been with them for a very long time. It's my only email provider outside of work. I won't change. But to say it's smooth sailing, what's wrong with you? just shows you're either A) lucky, B) don't access it as often as others, or C) are oblivious(?).

Sign into your Yahoo Mail account.

Click on

Contacts
Actions
Export All

Choose the CSV file format.

It will download a file that is easily readable by Excel, for example, or importable into other people's address systems.

I should have also said:

Be sure you know which folder your browser is set to for downloaded files. Change it to another if you would find that easier to work with (I create a "c:\downloads" folder on all my PCs. I point all browsers to that folder, so that I don't need to crawl down too many levels to find files)

The file that will be in whatever folder you download to, that you'll attach to an email, is named:

yahoo_ab.csv

You should maybe first double check that it came out ok by navigating to it using Windows Explorer and then opening it with whatever spreadsheet program you use.

You might also make the wise decision to keep a copy of the file. My main computer crashed and all my address book and emails were lost. I had a back up copy but from too long ago so a few are missing needing me to go into search/begging mode to retrieve the lost addresses.

owbist that is the only thing I lose when I reformat. I figure if they want to hear from me they will write and I will get it then. LOL

Owbist, I don't think there's a need to backup emails and addresses that dedtired has on Yahoo. A failure there is most unlikely. (Yeah, I know, it HAS happened randomly).

I've used Yahoo mail for over 15 years (yeah, no typo) and gmail since it started and have never had a problem with either. Smaller providers/ ISPs have historically had regular issues, less so now because most now use software or turnkey services from the big guys.
