Sometimes sending the error report helps because they may well reply with something you may understand, although too often the reply seems to say there is nothing for the user to do.

Check your Event viewer for red error reports. Start/Control panel/Administrative tools/Event viewer. Then click on the System tab and look or scroll down the right side for the errors. Double click on each error for a small report but also the opportunity to see a larger explanation.

I think I may know when it may have happened as I remember an incident and I tried to get out of what I was doing at the time and must have been a no no what ever I did.
Something popped up telling me the file was too big to what I was doing. So I Xed out and didn't let it finish responding?
If I do a System Restore, will that work?

I do not see the above relating to your problem.

Is this the only Item you cannot open, can you open My computer? Can you access the control panel?

urlee you need to go back to those ones that show the red flag and hilight that entry then double clik on it and it will open up an information box and give you more info on that event, it will give you also an event id that is important you can look up event Id numbers on google also it will tell you what specifically caused the event. So go back and look at each of those events. See where Owbist told you to double click on the entry? that is what we need.

Also there in the event viewer there is an option called applications you want to open that one too and look for red flags there do the same thing there.

I did do as owbest suggested in double clicking each error and came up with this:

As I mentioned, I had a hunch as to what caused the problem so I located and deleted the files. I noticed they had a "squiggly" line before the name?
I tried to open the recycle bin to only delete those files and the same IE popup came as did with My Doc and closed out on me so I couldn't get in. So I clicked on RC and deleted all contents.

Now, I got two yellow warnings above those X's and wondered if what I was keeping in my RC bin got deleted to cause that? I was saving some items in there all the time as I didn't know if they were important?

Also, I noticed the date changed from 14 to 18th on the X's?????

Those files that start with ~ a tilde are only temporary files so no harm should come to you by deleting those.

On the yellow warnings for the CD you might take a squint in the Device manager and see if all is well there. You'll notice it says No user action is required, rather comforting don't you think?

Click Start/Control panel/System/Hardware/Device manager
Look down the list for yellow exclamation or question marks on the left side. If none there you could double click on the CD listing and see what it says in the various tabs. It'll probably tell you 'This device is working properly' or words to that effect.

I didn't see anything there of yellow E.
Was I supposed to click on CD from that same listing there as no warnings there also.

Urlee if there were no yellow marks then everything is good in the Device manager.

Try a music CD in the drawer to to renew your confidence in the player then move on. Probably just a tiny glitch that will have no ill effects.

Oh, I forgot to mention I did do that yesterday when I saw those yellow warnings.

this is the kind of info you can find by googling the even id number, as you can see for this type of event it could be a number of things causing the problem, it would take trying a few things to figure out which might be your culprit.

As per this microsoft bulletin there is a work around for this by extending the time out but it does involve a registry change and changing the registry can be tricky.

I still have the red flags but so far all is well as far as getting My Doc open when I couldn't before.

How did you get the My Doc folder to open ?

After I deleted the files I figured caused the problem.

I just guessed at which ones they were.
I had a problem that I just Xed out of and soon after discovered I couldn't open My Doc.
I knew which files I was working with so got into My Doc from my PSP7 program to be able to delete them.
Then when they went into the recycle bin, I couldn't open the recycle bin. Lucky I could just click to empty the recycle bin.
Those were the culprets (just one may have been but I deleted them all) cause I could then open My Doc.
I was using a program called Internet Recorder and guess the video I recorded was too big.

Thanks for that, in xp when a folder will not open like that what comes to mind for me is Malware, a file association problem (Take ownership of a file or folder) or a corrupt user profile (because it was the Mydoc folder) Those are the things I would have looked at first, then I would have tried a system restore, and that is sort of what you did by removing those files you restored the system to a previous state. I wonder if a system restore would have worked.

urlee- I don't mean to hijack your thread- raven and owist- this is exactly what I was trying to explain to you about getting kicked off- but am not as smart as urlee in being able to show it to you.

Urlee- why did you put a cd in when you thought there might be a problem?

I put a CD in only after I seen the yellow warnings that appeared after I emptied the recycle bin thinking something got deleted that should have been saved from long ago as I had some stuff in there that I kept that I was unsure of deleting. I used to go into the recycle bin and delete manually, saving some. Couldn't get in to do that when the other monsters went there.
I put a CD into the drive to see if that drive would play it. It did so I figured all is well.

she did that because if you look up there where she posted the screen shot of her actual yellow flag errors it says it is cd related which is why it was suggested she try a cd in it and see if it worked.

Each type of flag error can be different hers just happened to be a cd related flag.

ilmbg you can do the same thing go to your event viewer and look for any red flags do as she did and hilight and double click each one you will get the info box with the id number and what is causing the error, you can then go to google and enter in the search event Id # or go right to the event Id site I linked to and search your number there.

Start> control panel> administrative tools> event viewer> click on the various options Applications, System etc to view that viewer.
