Well, Sue, given my poor spelling, I love spell check too, wish we had it on this forum.... But spell check in Firefox, what for? I use spell check in Thunderbird, one of my email "clients", and if I do email via Firefox the spell check comes from my ISP email service.

Now I get it, you've figured out how to do a spell check here using a feature on Firefox, which I'm now using, that dumb old me hasn't found yet.

I thought spell check just came as part of firefox now. I don't have an extension for spell checking but I do have spell checking with firefox. It's showing firefox as misspelled right now - guess I'll right click and add to the dictionary.

Bob, are you saying you're getting spell check as you type in the "message" box of Firefox? I agree, I get an underline for spelling errors, including firefox, but not Firefox. When I think of spell check, I think of suggestions on the correct spelling, that's what I mean when I say I wish this forum has a spell check. Guess the error identification only is what some are talking about when they say spell check.

I have spell-check and never installed anything with Firefox. I assumed it came with it. It gives suggestions and works on anything you type, including this forum

Jerry, Spell check came with Firefox 2.0.0.7. It is not an extension or add-on. It "checks" our spelling, just like our teachers did.

It underlines a mispelled word. Right click on the word for a list of suggested spellings. Granted it isn't perfect, but it does get your attention, and gee, golly, that is what dictionaries are for! lol You can add words, too.

It doesn't offer suggestions for firefox because firefox isn't a word; of course Firefox is a word because Firefox says it is.

A very early version of Firefox had a scheme where one could double click on a word and it would take one to a dictionary rather like nytimes.com does now. Soon that feature (add-on, extension, whatever it was) became incomparable with upgrades. Does anyone know if that feature was ever upgraded to comparable with current Firefox?

The Answers extension does that.

Heres sometng misspelled and RIGHT, RC gives a list including "something". Now all I have to do is remember.

You see, telling me a word is misspelled helps only if I happen to know the correct spelling, but not if I'm guessing and hopping, or is that hoping (SplCk doesn't help here), that I can come close enough for a spell check to guess what I'm trying to spell. As noted, THANKS, right click it is.

Bob, could you post an example of how the Answers extension works?

For instance state the question, and then show what Answers extension came up with.

I right clicked on the word 'extension' in your question and selected 'look up on answers.com' in the context menu. Here is a link to what I got: answers.com.

It may be a little early to form an opinion but it seems to me that alt-click on the word is pulling up the answers.com hit faster than right-click and clicking on answers.com. Is this just a perception artifact on my part?

Bob, I got it! That is almost creepy, and the d/l was as fast as the proverbial bullet.

Albert, I played around with the clicking options and decided to stay with the R/C.

With Alt Click I got a small Tip box, and more options. With R/C I get a window, albeit no Back arrow, but I just click on History and go back to where I was, so that seems the shortest route.

We know with Computers there is always more than one way to do anything! But aren't they fun?

Actually that is the way most uninstallers work.
The uninstaller will remove the original program files.
But not any related files that were created after the install.
Settings, favorites, cookies, etc would have to be deleted manually.
Sometimes you get a message saying the application has been
uninstalled but some files could not be removed and you will need to manually delete them.

You wouldn't want to uninstall MS Word and suddenly
have all your .doc files disappear.

I have a MAC - use Firefox - do not have right click - I do get the red underline on mispelled words here - how do I correct the word?

Hum, and I understood MAC is always better/easier. Something works in MS and not in MAC? I guess some of the 3rd party software vendors don't give full attention to MAC differences. Not sure, just a guess. I was very happy to learn about the right click with MS.

MAC is way easier and virus / spy free - I might add - then my old PC - but, I am not at all one of the savvy users - I don't (can't ) use it nearly like others. I don't know how to perform the rt click function, there is a way I think. I thought everyone else was correcting their spelling and it was only me not figuring it out!

to 'right click' on a mac hold down the control key and click. Mac's are better for some people. I prefer my pc which is virus/spy free. Takes a little more work and is not for some people.

Thank you Bob - It corrected my misspelled word! Very cool! The right click w/ the control key is way easier then going up to the toolbar and selecting the spelling. Many thanks! I have needed Rt click in other instances & did not know how to do it. You are right about PC's & Macs - My brain just had a hard time w/ the PC even after all those years - I would screw it up As you can see, I'm just not tech savvy! I still have to use a PC for certain work things & now I am worse, after 2 yrs of using mostly macs.
