ISP Making Me Change My Homepage...

My ISP is making me change my homepage to their site. I don't much care for their homepage. Below is the message that pops up after I log off of their site.

Please note: Effective October 16th, your e-mail must be accessed via www.My ISP Homepage.Com rather than this page. For your convenience, click the button to the right to set your homepage to www.My ISP.com

Is there anyway that I can get around this and keep my current homepage or am I stuck with it?

I suspect your computer has been compromised. Why would an ISP care about which page you select as your homepage?

You might start doing some anti malware and anti rootkit scans using what you already have installed after updating the definitions or one or two online free scans.

You could even phone your ISP to confirm the email is from them.

That's strange?
My e-mail opens with OE and my browser is the one with the homepage.
Also----Dialup or broadband make a difference?

Which direction are you envisioning the island? Keep in mind that if you have an island you need 4ft in the isles for more than one person to be in that space. You can get away with 42" if you are smaller people, but 3ft makes it a one person space. If you have seating you need space to walk behind when people are seated too. You might want to take the kitchen part to the kitchen forum as there are several that are really good with coming up with kitchen layouts. As for a walk-in closet - only the last one seems to make sense to me as vs. the original from a storage perspective. With the other's you cut down on usable closet space too much. I would do a large shower instead of the tub though, but I'm not much of a bath person.

Most isp will allow the mail to come in from another isp, but not all will allow it to send email out. She can, however, get her mail from mail2web.com and also reply there too, if she wishes, and it will work out fine. When I am on vacation, I use mail2web from friends and relatives computers, and take care of all my mail from there, for both my isp's. :-)Cat

Back already, Salena, think you're talking IE, not Firefox Owbist, The load automatically was checked, I tested both checked (as it was) and unchecked...it made no difference. To be more "graphic" (ha), the homepage is left justified with text that is active links, there is a little graphic/picture at the top and bottom. The page is also two or three pages in length due to everything being a left justified "newline". Any more ideas? May have to reload Firefox..it is 2.0. That said I think I can get away with just running install and letting it write over what is already there, i.e., I don't have to uninstall, which I'd like to avoid. Thanks.

Bed Bath Closet #1 or #2 looks like they would work for you. I kinda prefer the #2 if you could make the vanity have two sinks. Bed placement would be easier than the first pic because of the two windows. You could put headboard on the left long wall nicely. I could see you losing the kitchen U as long as that wall where the 10-6 numbers are is cabinetry. It would open up the space nicely. An island might be too much if you put a table in the dining area. You could instead get a table that is really functional as both for fine dining and yet still work for breakfast. Your kitchen/fam is set up like mine and the original owner opted to not have that dividing set of cabinets come out to complete the room. Here is a pic to give you an idea of what I have and what you could possibly do. That is minus the stinky little boy- lol

Hum, are we looking for something amiss in Thunderbird/Tools/Options/Main -> Home Page ?? What ISP are you using?

It says "For your convenience, click the button to the right to set your homepage " It doesn't say you HAVE to.... I suspect they put that line in because some people would find it eaiser to access their mail if they use that page... What I'd do is Save that page ( site ) to Favorites so I could access my mail then set my home page to anything I wanted...

Thank you owbist,urlee, mikie, jerry_nj and rita for all your responses to my thread, I sure do appreciate it.

I took mikies advice and phoned my ISP to get an explanation from them. The lady that I spoke with explained that there was an older website that others had been using before the one they have now. I had no idea that another one even existed, but then I haven't been with them that long. Thank you mikie for your suggestion. "Smiles"

I asked the lady if they had purposely showed that message on all of their sites and she said that they did do that.

So the mystery is solved and I am Ok like I am, I need not make any changes.

You are right and that is how I've had it all along but, was thrown off by what was on their site. I wonder how many other people got confused. With my being new, I wasn't aware that they even had been using another website for email.

Glad to be of service Thirdfrt...

Although I'm fairly comfortable with the computer now I still remember how scary it was it the beginning... I just knew that if I did the wrong thing I'd blow up the world or at the very least kill my computer... LOL

A lot of computer pros and ISP's tend make things more difficult for newbie's to understand by leaving out things they think everyone knows... I don't think they do it on purpose, it's just that they assume everyone has had a computer as long as they have...

By the way, it would have confused me too... I thought all Internet Service Providers had the mail set up to work primarily through an e-mail program instead of web mail only... Live and learn...
