Temp vs. Temporary Internet

Hi,

There is so much stuff in the Temp Folder can I safely delete those items? Not the folders in Temp just all the other things. Using IE 7 MS XP Thanks.

Not always.

C:\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp are often used for temporary files used by programs that are running. C:\Temp is a holdover from DOS/Win 3.x days and it's unlikely to find a program still using this folder.

"Well behaved programs" clean up after themselves and delete their temporary files from the temporary directory. If a program crashes (even a well behaved one) it will leave files in the temp directory. Some programs are like those coworkers who use the microwave and don't wipe it out afterward--they don't bother cleaning up after themselves.

At any rate, you end up with a mixture of abandoned files in the temp directory. You can usually delete any that are from before your last reboot, but you can't just delete everything, because some of the files may still be in use, even if they aren't currently open and stopping you from deleting them. Deleting a file that is still needed by a program would be unfortunate.

You should not have any problems cleaning out files and folders from temporary directories.
Reboot and let the computer fully restart, and then delete the files/folders.
If some will not delete, you should research them and find out what they are doing residing in the temp folder.
Remember...do NOT delete the Temp folder itself...just everything within, including folders.

My usual slow-to-warm-up self says that this is impractical for a pool of any significant size unless you have mucho $$ and an identified storage site, and that you have actually identified that the pool does not work well for your family's use of your property, but nontheless, it is reasonable to try to research the options. That may either get you to the product you desire or help you come up with a whole 'nother way to approach your living situation. There are some commercial products for this purpose advertised on the 'net. Dimensions are likely an issue--as in the above post, it would take different support structures and materials to span a large pool vs. something smaller. Also, have you focused on whether it is for repeated off-season uses, thereby requiring movability and "storage", or whether you wanted to keep your pool completely fallow for several consecutive years and then rev it up and dispose of the cover structure? That affects the design and $ issues. I say "storage" because one unique product I saw was a gazebo designed to slide over pool and then off to the side and be usable there. Whereas, if you have no other yard to speak of, then you have a different issue. There are also some previous GW threads on this issue.

Glad you asked. Clean out your temporary internet files and temp files. Download TFC by OldTimer click Here to your desktop. Click the Save file tab, save it to the desktop. Then double click it to run it. Double-clickTFC.exe to run it. Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator TFC will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin * Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process. * Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. * Please let TFC run uninterrupted until it is finished. Once TFC is finished it should restart your computer. If it does not, please manually restart the computer yourself to ensure a complete cleaning. What TFC does TFC (Temp File Cleaner) will clear out all temp folders for all user accounts (temp, IE temp, java, FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari), including Administrator, All Users, LocalService, NetworkService, and any other accounts in the user folder. It also cleans out the %systemroot%\temp folder and checks for .tmp files in the %systemdrive% root folder, %systemroot%, and the system32 folder (both 32bit and 64bit on 64bit OSs). It shows the amount removed for each location found (in bytes) and the total removed (in MB). Before running, it will stop Explorer and all other running applications. When finished, if a reboot is required the user must reboot to finish clearing any in-use temp files. -- TFC only cleans temp folders. -- TFC will not clean URL history, prefetch, or cookies. Depending on how often someone cleans their temp folders, their system hardware, and how many accounts are present, it can take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or more. sstrazisar, I would put the valve in the wall where I plan on putting the body sprays that connects to the bedroom. Directly behind this wall is a built in cabinet with doors so I can hide the access panel. See attached for a picture of a quick Sketchup model I did the other day (placement of stuff is just temporary, just wanted a quick idea of what it will look like). I have read reviews about the DTV Prompt valve being noisy, which is another concern, but hopefully I would be able to sound proof within the wall as well as within that built in cabinet unit.

If you are going to use a standard sink without a disposal for washing dishes, come up with a regular schedule for cleaning out the trap with hot water and bleach. When foot products (grease, bits of food, etc.) are dumped into a standard trap some of it will stick in the trap. Food residue probably won't plug it up, but it provides a wonderful place for fruit flies to multiply, and soon they will be flying around your house. Usually hot water and bleach is enough to flush and sanitize the trap, but do it often if any food products are being washed off in the sink. Bruce

Have you simply tried a disk clean up with-in windows.

Start>Programs>Accessories>SystenTools>Disk cleanup.

CCleaner would do a fine job of cleaning your system. Just use it with the default settings only. It is better than the Windows Disk Cleanup utility.

Also, there can be times when temp files will not be deleted when the creating application is enabled and active. If you have problems removing a file be sure the pertinent application is disabled and try again.

Hi,
I am really confused now. I know when I had W98 I always just emptied the temp and temp internet with no problem. XP is new to me and don't want to mess things up, this computer was given to me used and I am still trying to clean it up to my satisfaction. Some of the things in the "temp" are;

nus99.tmp
~A6.tmp
lots of sqlite things one of which is sqlite_5t83Rhejv68vpMy
many more with different letter/number endings
jre_install
SPL81.tmp five different ones with diff numbers
D653F3EC.TMP
~GLFD0D.TMP

I tried googling and some weren't found and the others, well makes no sense to me. Alot of files in the temp folder say text files

Folder _isA5 is empty Folder brwsrlogs has ib_log_1 and ib_log_2 don't know what there

Anyway any continued help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

there is what is called the 48 hr rule you do not delete any that are less than 48 hrs because they could be essential, even cccleaner observes the 48 hr rule.
