Toto Carolina toilet and some general questions

I like the looks and size of this compact, skirted toilet for my small space. However I want a toilet that flushes consistently without the aid of a plunger and one that doesn't require cleaning after a flush of solids. I've been trying to get more reviews on this toilet other than one person here who has it. That person mentioned only having to plunge a couple times - which concerns me. Other reviews I've found for it seem marginal as well. It's not included on the Map report that I could see. Does anyone else here have this toilet who could report on it's performance? Or is there another skirted, compact (low height and 28 inches deep or less) alternative that flushes well?

Also, which of the different Toto flushing mechanisms is supposed to be the best?

I would have been seriously disappointed in buying a Toto if I had discovered the American Standard Cadet "3" models after paying through the nose for Toto's name. I was literally at the plumbing supply store picking out a Toto when the girl showed me the AS Cadet "3". I saved $300 plus I got the AS version of Sanigloss which the Toto Drake (right height, oval, white) did not come with. AS puts that finish on all their toilets, not just a few. To put this purchase into perspective, I've lived in hotels 50% of the time since 2004. I've seen way more toilets than I should have. The Toto Drake is a fine toilet, but it has absolutely NO performance value over what the AS Cadet "3" offers for $300 less. They are identical designs! The hotel I'm in now has the Kohler Cimmaron model. It's good, too, but still more expensive than the Cadet "3". I agree about not skimping on the rental. Again you don't need to pay $400+ for anything to get a great toilet. If you spend $180 for an AS, you'll never have to pay a plumber to come out. One plumber visit would pay for the toilet.

I bought a Toto Eco Flush CST784EF for our master bathroom and it is terrible. You need to have a toilet brush scrubber by you each time you use the bathroom because there is not enough water or pressure to clean the toilet. And, it was $600. The biggest waste of money I ever spent. Go with American Standard. We bought one of those for our powder room and it is amazing for 2/3 rds of the cost.

Samantha, in my opinion, anti-sweat valves, also known as tempering valves are used mainly for older toilets that sweat on the exterior surfaces, especially around the uninsulated tank. In summertime, when older toilets flushed, they drain most of the water from the tank, and upon being refilled, the incoming water is colder than the warm humid air in homes that do not have air conditioning so you will see condensation of the surface of the tank, and sometimes the bowl. As long you have air conditioning or a modern low flush toilet, you do not need an anti-sweat valve. Those type of valves mix a bit of hot water with the cold water to the toilet so it is more to room temperature to eliminate the "sweating". In both of our case, we have the newer toilets which are designed not to sweat by only flushing roughly half of the water in the tank, so that the incoming cold water will mix with the temperated water. The problem we seems to have is that the tank water was "too" warm and it steamed or evaporated causing condensation underneath the tank lid. Originally, I had assumed the anti-sweat valve was at fault, that the adjustment screw was set too high for the amount of hot water to mix with the cold water. But I found out recently, there was no tempering valves installed in my case, it turns out my client has a hot water recirculating system where the cooled hot water is returned to the heating tank by the cold water lines in her house. Somehow some hot water got into the tank. Do you have a similar system in your case? Check the temperature of your tank water, is it warm?

I have to agree with johnfrwhipple. The video he posted on how to install a Geberit wall carrier was fantastic. I created a link for the seller of these items that offer the best deals with in stock products. The Geberit company has a new model of toilet carrier that allows to be installed in a 2 inch by 4 inch wall. This opens the doors for anyone to install one of these wall mounted toilets in their bathroom. Duravit seems to offer some really nice wall mounted toilets, but I feel as the Laufen brand gets you more for your money. Have fun choosing. We have the Soiree in our guest bathroom. I'm not sure if it has the same flush as the Carolina (the Soiree has the double-cyclone flush), but so far, so good. It's been installed since this time last year. We don't use it on a daily basis, but my parents were here visiting for the week last week, and they had no problems with it at all (no plunging needed).

It seems like the MaP ratings are the most objective assessment of flushing performance - true? It seems consistent with the anecdotal reports here. For example a lot of people speak highly of Toto Drake and that is the highest rated Toto on the MaP. Likewise someone said Kohler Cimarron was better than their other toilets and that one gets the maximum 1000 rating. I'm thinking that may be the best thing to go by - if I can find one on that list that I like.

It's a weird analogy but this Toto toilet thing reminds me of the Miele dishwasher brand when I was remodeling my kitchen. The brand with the best reputation and for me it turned out to be the most disappointing thing in my new kitchen. For some reason I'm thinking the Toto experience could be the same - my expectations would exceed the actual performance - and I'd be wishing I'd gotten a cheaper toilet that just works.

I'm not usually on this forum, but I here today looking for an answer to a different question for a friend. Anyway, we installed 2 Toto toilets just over 2 years ago and have been very very pleased with them. Ours have the g-max flush which I think they said was their best flush at the time we were looking. The flush is powerful and brief. We've never had to use a plunger.
